About this property

Abernethys Cottage in Connel

Nestled on a traditional working croft in the charming village of Connel, Abernethys Cottage offers a warm, comfortable retreat in the heart of the Scottish countryside. Surrounded by rolling scenery and friendly farm animals including cows, sheep, horses and hens, it’s the perfect place to relax, unwind and experience a true Highland escape.

Inside, the cottage has been thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming home-from-home atmosphere. The fully equipped open-plan kitchen, dining and living area provides a sociable space to cook, dine and relax together after a day exploring the West Coast. Modern conveniences including a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer ensure a comfortable and stress-free stay.

The cottage comfortably sleeps up to six guests across three double bedrooms. On the ground floor, you’ll find a spacious double bedroom with a private shower en-suite, along with a convenient WC by the front door. Upstairs are two further double bedrooms and a large family bathroom featuring a shower over the bathtub.

Abernethys Cottage is ideally located within walking distance of local amenities. In Connel village, you can enjoy delicious home-cooked meals at The Falls of Lora Hotel & Bistro, The Oyster Inn and the Glue Pot Bar. Just a 10-minute walk across the iconic Connel Bridge, the Lochnell Arms Hotel and bar offers another excellent dining option.

With regular bus and train links nearby, exploring the surrounding area is easy. The bustling harbour town of Oban is just 5 miles away and offers a fantastic selection of restaurants, cafés and bars, from fresh local seafood to Italian and Chinese cuisine.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Connel provides access to both the north and south sections of National Cycle Route 78, where breathtaking views of lochs, forests and castles await. The nearby Falls of Lora and Connel Bridge are also popular attractions for kayakers, divers, photographers and visitors alike. Despite the name, the Falls of Lora is not a waterfall, but a spectacular natural phenomenon created when the tides of the Firth of Lorn meet the fresh waters of Loch Etive, forming dramatic rapids.

Whether you’re seeking a peaceful countryside retreat, an active outdoor adventure or a base to explore the beauty of Argyll, Abernethys Cottage is the perfect place to stay.
