The House was like stepping back into the 70’s. Warm and welcoming . Perfect size for our family. It was a little cluttered but very clean. I’d recommend bringing your own bedding. The location is gorgeous with the beach right there. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this home. We will be back!
This was a great place to unplug and entertain without tv and internet. The down sides were no AC and no cable or streaming for the evening. But it did give great time for everyone to visit and play together.
The house gave plenty of room for everyone to have their own space.

Waterfront location is great - House has room for improvement
Would I stay here again?
In its current condition, no. If the mattresses were updated and the insect issues were fully resolved, yes.
Details:
(+) waterfront location
(+) price / value
(+) spotless bathroom + kitchen
(+/-) Decor is from the 70s
(-) appliances are very old (freezer doesn’t work very well, stove vent doesn’t work very well)
(-) couches in living room can’t support adult weight and sink down far too much (springs seem worn out), fine for kids
(-) mattresses are all very old and some have mystery marks on them (we called the owner to ask what they were) - some are also sealed in plastic
(-) serious insect issues inside (swarms of flying bugs around inside lights, ants in bathrooms and kitchen). When the windows are open we learned that the screens have holes and are sealed poorly. When we closed the windows we leaned that the sliding doors don’t close all the way (the frames are warped) and bugs continue to enter the house.
Arrived at two and got into house. Went to use restroom and there were big black ANTS crawling up and down the walls!!! ICK!!!!! Then as we began to unpack noticed just how DIRTY the place was!! Cobwebs with bugs in them!! Curtains are stained and ripped!! Screens are all ripped!! Sat on furniture and got a spider and ANT to crawl across my grandson and bit him!!! It’s as you are walking into a dark 1970 house!! Bears got into trash every night and we cleaned it up which was no FUN at all!!! The owner of this place should take some of his profits and make this place livable!! Only reason we stated that our trip was good was because of the lake and boating!!!! HOUSE is NASTY!!!
Our family has stayed at the Boatman several times. The vintage lakefront home provides ample space, beautiful views, and incredible access to the lake. Great for families!
Love Lake Almonar! The home was large and comfortable. Needs updating but that did not affect our stay. Bring your own knifes as the ones in house were not shape enough to cut a tomato.

Fun family vacation on the lake
Home was large and in a great location. We were able to leave our water toys and chairs on the beach for the week. We liked the 70's vibe of the home however the lack of updates has affected the function of the home. Large sliding glass doors looking out to the lake do not function as they should and are not energy efficient so the home gets very hot every afternoon. Banisters on the deck and stairs are not up to code and not safe for young children. There were leaky faucets and electrical problems. It is unfortunate cause the place could be excellent with updates.

Roughing it Indoors
Aside from the beautiful lake and spending quality time with family, this rental experience was disappointing. The house needs attention to say the least. If there is no air conditioning (which we knew about ahead of time ), and fans are provided (which we also knew in advance), but most of the window and door screens have so many large holes, what is the point? Some lights were not working, the oven and stove are so old the indicator knobs are of no use, there were zero comfortable beds, the couches’ frames are broken so that you literally sink into them, the list goes on.
Our family rented the Boatman several years ago. Even though the home is dated, it was clean, accommodating, and had fabulous access to the lake. The views of Lassen and gorgeous sunsets are incredible!

Lake Almanor Retreat
The location on the lake was great and the kids swam for hours. The supplies in the house need improvement. No toilet paper, no towels, no soap of any kind, The propane for the BBQ was empty which didn't matter because the BBQ was too dirty to use. The sliding door at the back of the house was very difficult to open. On the plus side the weather was great even though the fishing wasn't. Nice breeze in the afternoon great change from the heat in the valley.
Great property with private beach on the lake. Amazing views of the sunset. Property, as others have stated, is a bit dated but that's part of the charm. Large enough for a big family with friends or two families of 4 each. Lots of space in the back for games or kids to run around. Great views. Will come back at some point.
Beautiful view of the lake with private beach access, but the house has not been updated so if you would like to visit 1970- this is your place. It was a unique experience, but a great value for the price and how big it is. Horseback riding, hiking and boat rentals nearby makes this a great family vacation, and the neighbors are fantastic!

Perfect Location, house lacking....
First time at Lake Almanor. Location was 5+ stars! We had all of our lake toys (kayaks/paddle boards, etc) and were able to leave them at the private beach all week for easy access. ***Location is key!***
House was VERY DATED and in need of upgrades, especially for the price, 2 stars. Could definitely have been cleaner, especially bedding and curtains, lots of dust and cobwebs. Kitchen and bathrooms were clean. House was very large and plenty of room for large family.
Also if you want to enjoy any of the mentioned amenities (horseshoes, badminton, volleyball, etc) bring your own supplies. No horseshoes, net, birdies, or racquets to be found. Bummer. Wish we would’ve known.
Would not recommend this property and would not rent again.

Understated property. Photos don't do it justice.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable, great deck with a picnic table. Comfortably furnished, plenty of room, well stocked kitchen.
We will definitely come back.

Perfect for a big group!
We had our own private beach area which was great. We brought all our toys and left them on the shoreline for everyone to play with. The house had plenty of room for everyone. The room with all the beds was perfect for the kids and their friends. The views of the lake were beautiful! The owner was very responsive and accommodating.

So nice to have that beach!
The house is right out of 1970 so took some getting used to but comfy. DIshes could have been cleaner but the Beach! It was so great to drive right down and launch and moor the jet ski. Kids had a blast for the week.
