The Nest is a beautiful, private 220 sq ft modern studio cottage behind a 1911 craftsman home. The entire front of the Nest can be opened up with two huge carriage doors to the sunken slate patio and the lushly landscaped tranquil garden with fire pit and seating area. There are windows on all sides, and 3 large operable skylights in the vaulted roof which also give the Tiny Home a cheery bright airy feel. Even on the darkest of grey Portland days.
Feel like you're glamping in the heart of the Alberta Arts District!!!
LOCATION: The Nest is in the heart of the super cool Alberta Arts district, full of amazing local restaurants, coffee shops, artisan ice cream, yoga studios, galleries, local clothing, jewelry, and home ware stores. You can walk everywhere. The is also a bike rack just behind the Nest, and surrounded by our fenced back yard, where you can lock a bike if you've brought one, or you can easily rent bikes from local Nike Bike kiosks. The designated biking lane boulevards are nearby as well. Mass transit pickups also within a block or two depending on which line you're taking.
WI/FI: There is a great wi/fi connection, and if you're traveling for work, the kitchen island makes a great work station.
KITCHEN: Induction cooktop, toaster oven, blender, toaster, wok, French press, tea pot, and tons of prep/cook/eat ware and a prep eat island. Larger dorm size Fridge&Freezer.
SLEEPING: There are two organic cotton sofa-bed futons w/memory-foam pillow toppers for added softness, and lots of pillows and blankets to stay cozy.
BATH: Cute bamboo floored bathroom has a vintage clawfoot tub with a shower ring and curtain so you can bathe or shower, sink & small vanity with lots of amenities like bath salts, lotion, shampoo, body wash, hair dryer, and items like ear buds, cotton balls, band aids, etc etc etc etc that just come in handy.
COOLING: In summer we add a window air conditioner for the apx. two weeks that you actually need one in Portland.
HEATING: In winter we have a Cadet heater in the main living area, and an additional wall heater in the bathroom to help keep it toasty. If you are traveling from somewhere where it is always very hot, and you are used to having your space be 75 and over all the time, on the coldest days (i.e.; below freezing with an East wind- you can ask me to add a radiator heater if you want additional warmth. Please let me know this before check in so I can have it there for you.
LAUNDRY: The Nest doesn't have its own wash facility. I recommend taking laundry to one of my favorites places_ "Spin" Laundromat. Spin is super cool just to hang out at really. Even though I have an HE washer and dryer, I take my comforters and larger items there to wash them, order a drink and food at their cafe and play arcade games, or work while it washes. If you are staying for a super long stay- i.e.: 3 months or more.. maaaaybe the tenants in the main house would be willing to share their laundry facility, but that's a conversation we'd have to have at booking time. I couldn’t guarantee it.
YARD AND GARDEN: There is a gravel pathway which wraps around the house from the front and goes behind the main house to your Tiny Home. There is a cement patio between the house and Nest, and another small enclosed gravel area behind where the bike corral is located. The whole yard is wrapped with a garden full of trees, bamboo, shrubs, flowers, and ferns, and designed to feel tranquil and enclosed even though the location is in the heart of everything. The fire pit area, barbecue and outdoor garden are shared with my full time tenants in the main house.
PARKING: Street parking in front of the house.
THINGS TO CONSIDER/BE MINDFUL OF: The house is in a very hip but quiet residential neighborhood, and I have great relationships with my wonderful neighbors and my tenants in the main house. If you're looking for a place to party, or if you know your default mode of communicating with your significant other is yelling.... this would be a really poor fit.
if you want to relax at the end of a hard days work, or an exciting days exploring with a hot bath in a beautiful space, or lounge around reading a book listening to the rain fall on the skylights with a cup of tea, or sitting outside by the fire with a glass of wine in the evening- then this IS your place, and you will be very happy here :)
Also; The Nest is a non-smoking home and garden. That includes bud. But the home is in a great area to walk around in the blocks around the house and smoke to your hearts content :)
PETS: I will accept some pets on a case by case basis with a pet fee.
PS: I would love to discuss long term stays with you, and will adjust my rates for a long term stay. Please feel free to reach out to me if you are interested.
