About Sonia

Ciao!! We are Sonia, Alessandro, our uncle Franco ... and Valerio (our 'big' 8 years old son) and Tiziano (our 'small' 6 years old son) from Rome.

Matching our love for traveling with the love for our city and its beautiful historical center, we decided to rent our small and peaceful 'nest' to other 'travel lovers' that wished to visit the Eternal City.

Sonia purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Sonia chose Rome

We always wanted a house in the center of Rome to live:

the Rome of the Roman Republic

the Rome of the Roman Empire

the Rome of the Catholic Middle Ages

the Rome of the Catholic Renaissance

the Rome of the Catholic ‘600

the Rome of good food

the Rome of the gardens and roses

the nightlife of a Rome that never sleeps

... ... ... ... ... .... and all this is just a small list of the many “faces” of our city.

Mind you, the world is really very interesting and beautiful, we love to travel, we sailed south of Turkey, we slept on a double bed just under the night stars on a sandy desert dune, we were stuck between Isralel and Jordan, Alessandro adores Asia, Sonia has lived in New York, we love food and tastes very different from ours like Thai or Northern India, we are working for American companies and we appreciate a lot of other cultures ... but Rome is Rome :-)))))

We searched and found a small house in the center “of the center of Rome”, with the idea of being part of a long history.

We personally live a little out from the center but still close to a historic place, we are at Ponte Milvio (various battles as the Senate of Rome against Pompey, Constantine against Maxentius, and centuries after, Garibaldi “The 2 Worlds’ Hero” against the French.)

As you may have understood we love our city, or better “our cities”, very much, if you want to understand why, come to find it out in the Eternal City: we’ll be waiting for you with great pleasure!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Upon arrival uncle Franco was there to greet us. We didn't know too much about the neighborhood and Franco took the time to show us around, and make us feel comfortable. The apartment is adorable! I was traveling with my sister and it was exactly what we needed. There are lots of cute shops on the street, and an amazing restaurant called Bric enoteca a couple of doors down. The apt is very central to all of the sights in Rome. Overall we had a wonderful experience. I can't wait to come back!!!

Perfect for our needs

  • 5 of 5

All the reviews listed are accurate, both good and bad, which really are based on each persons preference.... but this flat suited us well for our needs and we would not hesitate to stay here again. Great value, especially if like us you would need two hotel rooms to accommodate your family of four.

We are a family of 4 and had been traveling for 3 weeks and spent 4 nights here to catch up on sleep and do laundry. It is a cute and quirky little place located in a 400 year old building in an excellent and walkable area of Rome. Perfect for site seeing and sleeping when your tired and your feet hurt.

There are many restaurants within a 2-5 minute walk. Grocery stores 1-2 blocks away. The Pam Local has ready to eat meals and we enjoyed making out own Caprese salads and meals in the small kitchen to eat when we could not stand eating out anymore.

A note to mention..... the air conditioning is not central air but rather a stand alone unit that can not be ran while the washer/dryer is on. This did cause a bit of an issue as the washer/dryer is a dual machine and can take 5-6 hours to complete a cycle and it was pretty hot in Rome and we really wanted a cool off while doing laundry. BUT... if you plan to be gone all day it would not be a problem.

Both Sonia and Uncle Franco were excellent and very accommodating when we were interested in adding a day before our visit. Franco met us at the flat with a warm smile on his face and spent 45 minutes with us doing a walk thru of the condo, providing area information, contract information for him and Sonia and also walking us around 2 blocks so that we were sure to be clear on the location of stores, bus ticket purchase and bus stops. All of this was very appreciated and we were grateful for his time.

Also please note that Sonia and Franco were extremely quick and efficient fixing a plumbing issue we experienced during our stay. We made a call, went out for a few hours and magically everything was fixed and a little note was left for us on the table. It is after all a home and things happen... I loved and appreciated the way they handled it.

Just right for us! Two sleeping spaces for family members keeping different hours.

  • 5 of 5

This was a great location, an oasis on the ground floor, and charming. We loved Uncle Franco, who walked us around the neighborhood and gave advice on how long it would take to walk to our specific destinations! The pasta restaurant up the street, recommended by him, was wonderful, the site of three of our dinners.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Sonia arranged a car for us to and from the airport. When we got to our apartment, Franco was waiting for us. He spent over an hour showing us around. He walked us to the grocery store, taxi stand and bus stop. He told us which bus or metro to take for wherever we wanted to go. What a wonderful man. Location is ideal. 15 minute walk to Vatican. 20 minute walk to Colosseum. Less than 1/2 block for bus stop to take us to the train station. The apartment is spacious and clean. I can't say enough about Lovely, Sonia and Franco!

Great apartment! Great location! Great hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our experience at 75 Via del Pellegrino. Sonia communicated clearly while making the arrangements. And Uncle Franco did an excellent job showing us both the apartment and where we could go for food, wine and any other things we needed. a great apartment for two people as the 'second bed' area became our sitting room. Would also work for four, of course.

Location was pretty much perfect. So close to Campo di Fiori and Piazza Navona. And, in fact, within easy walking distance of most of the major attractions. No security anxiety at all either at the apartment or while walking around.

And, when we didn't want to walk, the bus lines were close. Bus information displayed at the stops.

We used Google Maps while walking and when we took the bus. Very useful and accurate information. We could state when and where we wanted to go and the walking routes or the bus route number, times, and number of stops before getting off came right up on our phone. With the number of streets and intersections, a little help is pretty much mandatory..

Finally, Sonia and Uncle Franco arranged seamless transport from and to the airport! It was great to not have to worry about trains, cabs, etc. Just paid the driver when they picked us up. Rate was almost identical to the government regulated fare to the city center. No premium for the personal service.

We have other places we intend to travel, but if we do get back to Rome, we will seek to stay at 75 Via del Pellegrino again!!

Great location for Rome stay

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days. The location could not have been better for getting around on our own. The apartment had everything we needed--and Uncle Franco was a joy. We'll treasure our time here forever.
