Don't want the crowded condo experience with noisy neighbors having condo parties and dealing with flights of stairs lugging beach supplies and groceries? Then this private, stand-alone 1938 bungalow with charming original cypress walls and tons of amenities not offered at other properties is for you!
The bungalow is located literally just 50 feet from the white sands of Madeira Beach so you will be waking up to the sound of waves lapping onto the shore. Be in the center of it all, but with privacy in your own home that has views of the white sands of the beach and the crystal blue water of the Gulf from the living room, dining room, kitchen and a peek-a-boo view from the bonus room and back 45 foot by 13 foot deck. The primary and second picture is the view of the beach the bungalow has as it looks under the elevated house in front of it from the large living room windows.
Included in this 1,200 square foot beach house are two bedrooms (1 king size bed and 1 queen size bed). We just updated the kitchen in September 2018 to make it open concept with a breakfast bar. The bathroom was updated in July 2018 with a new tub, tub surround, vanity and new fixtures. There is also a private 600 square foot deck off the back of the house with a large dining table, patio chairs for six and two chaise lounge chairs for sun bathing or just relaxing as shown in pictures #23-26. This outdoor oasis is bigger than most condos! This realistically gives you 1,800 square feet a living space between indoor and outdoor!
The property also boasts a fully equipped kitchen, smart flat screen cable TVs, Sling streaming TV and FREE high speed internet. All linens and kitchen utensils are provided. A washer and dryer are available for your use in the detached garage which does not charge you $3 a load like the ones at the condos. We also include a laundry detergent saving you more money. One parking space is included and we can generally accommodate two cars with proper notification and coordination. We do also include beach chairs, beach towels, beach umbrella, boogie boards, swim noddles, and Styrofoam coolers for your enjoyment. Since we provide you items like beach chairs and umbrellas (most other rentals do not include the large umbrellas and beach chairs), you will not have to pay the $5 per day, per chair beach chair rental fee or the $15 per day umbrella rental fee charged on the beach! Whats more is we are now including a men's and woman's beach cruiser bike so you can cruise around town. That saves you another $25 per day, per bike in rental fees! Condos can't offer all these extras as they don't have the storage space for all these extra items. So we save you tons of money in rental fees and laundry fees that can potentially cover the cost of your rental!
So a little more about the uniqueness of the property. As mentioned, it is one of the last original bungalows left on Madeira Beach from 1938. Most of the other bungalows have been torn down to make way for condos or multi-million dollar houses. The walls are not just normal cypress; it is pecky cypress. Pecky cypress is a rare and highly sought after type of cypress popular for the uniqueness in it's amazing organic three dimensional textural character. Most people fall in love with it when they see it. These are from true old growth cypress that was cut down in the early 1900s. The cypress that was cut down at that time is estimated to be anywhere from 250 to 2,500 years old. There are still a few protected old growth cypress trees here in Florida as old as 3,500 years old!
We have taken quite a bit of time and effort to add touches to the bungalow that pay homage to the history of the bungalow. As you wander the bungalow, you will find many original pictures and advertising for Madeira Beach from 1938 (the year it was built), the 40s, 50, and 60s. We try to provide you a glimpse of what the bungalow was like back then as you are taken back in time with the advertisements for a completely equipped kitchen for $4 a week, a brand new deluxe car for $685 or a new house for $5,000. You will be able to read about the current events of 1938. Then you can start to feel yourself stepping back in time as you soak in the history. You can imagine how the previous owners used the collapsible walls to create open and closed floor plans. Therefore, it seems they were ahead of their time. So if you prefer a sterile condo, this is not the property for you. If you can appreciate the history of the bungalow with the pecky cypress walls, parquet flooring and the collapsible walls, then this is the place for you!
You just can't beat the location for convenience either. It is within walking distance to many great beach bar and grills, nightly live entertainment, as well as several fine dining opportunities. Thus, you can easily make do without a car. Local free beach ride services operate for tips only or you can catch the trolley one block away on Gulf Blvd. The trolley will take you from the northern tip of Clearwater Beach to the southern tip of Pass-A-Grille Beach and even east to downtown St Petersburg, home to the MLB Tampa Bay Rays, the Dali Museum, and many fine dining and shopping experiences.
Closer to home (3 blocks away), is historic John's Pass Village, with a host of entertainment options including; dolphin tours, jet ski rentals, parasailing, sunset boat tours, alligator petting exhibit, pirate ship cruise, and so much more. Dining options 2 blocks away are also plentiful such as Bubba Gump, The Friendly Fisherman, The Pirate's Den, Scully's, The Rusty Anchor, Mad Beach Craft Brewing, Gators and so much more! Don't pass up the opportunity to take a stroll over the Madeira Beach Bridge for some great views. There is so much to do for all ages and interests: golf, water sports, antiquing, museums galore, professional sports franchises - including baseball, football and hockey, as well as Spring Training for a host of famous teams. It is all here!
Out of respect for our neighbors and to keep the bungalow in good condition, we do not allow large parties, pets or smoking in the house.
I would also like to make one other thing abundantly clear as you read our reviews. We have been making upgrades over the past 6 months. So in my opinion, the two comments about the bathroom and "some upgrades" have been addressed. There have also been a comment that a guest left wishing their stay was after the pool was complete. The pool is for the guests of the house in front of the bungalow. If you would like to rent the elevated house that the bungalow looks under, please let us know and we can direct you to that property as it is $1,000 a night with a 7 night minimum. I would rather try to clear up any confusion on that review versus having someone unhappy once they arrive.
**Sneak preview of planned amenity upgrades that will be in place for December 29, 2019; a private hot tub on the back deck, two paddle boards, the ability to convert the paddle boards to a kayak type craft with the paddle board seat option, a front patio with beach views, inside laundry, a 3rd bedroom so we can then accommodate 8 guests, and a full 2nd bath addition! **
