New owners, but the same beautiful vacation rental!
Please note that this cabin has been on VRBO with the previous owner and was a 5-star rated rental with 15+ positive reviews. Unfortunately, after purchasing this cabin, we found that VRBO would not allow us to transfer the previous owner's reviews to our new listing. We hope to have new ratings and reviews for you very soon!
Our 1000 square foot, Log Cabin is nestled 9100 feet high in the Sangre De Cristo Mountain range in the Southeastern part of Colorado. It is between Walsenburg and Alamosa on Highway 160.
Many of the past renters have come from Texas, as this is the closest you can get to Texas and be in the mountains. Our cabin is 95 miles north of Taos New Mexico. About a 10-hour drive from Dallas and about a 3-hour drive from Denver. PLEASE NOTE - 4-WHEEL DRIVE IS NEEDED FOR WINTER & SPRING ACCESS!!
Forbes Park is a private, gated neighborhood with only 200 homes on 13,000 acres. There is no hunting in the park, so you will find lots of deer, elk, turkey, bears, coyote, beaver, and smaller critters all over. ATV'S AND MOTORCYCLES ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE GROUNDS.
Nestled on approximately 2.6 acres, we have always enjoyed having the cabin and the area to ourselves while staying here. The homes in this community are spaced very well to allow a certain level of seclusion and privacy. Even though 4-wheel drives are recommended, the drive to the cabin is still on maintained dirt roads so you can enjoy the scenery in route to the cabin.
Our cabin is a non-smoking cabin. We do have wi-fi at our cabin with Roku video streaming, DVD and VHS players available for your entertainment. We will provide a wi-fi password and directions for tv use; however, we do not provide any type of technical support. There is also a community center in the park that has public wi-fi available. Cell service is a hit and miss. However, there is a landline at the cabin for emergencies.
It has a comfy queen bed downstairs in a private bedroom with a sliding door, as well as a convertible futon in a loft sitting area and a king bed in the upstairs loft bedroom. The log-style furniture is of Aspen and Pine. The spacious kitchen is fully stocked (even with some spices, condiments) with gas stove/oven, large refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave,. The cabin also includes additional amenities such as a charcoal grill as well as a washer and dryer.
Outside, you will enjoy the hot tub on the front porch or you can enjoy beautiful sunsets on the large southern facing back deck!
In wintertime the woodburning stove keeps the cabin warm while you can watch tv from the video streaming service, or any of over 100 movies on DVD or VHS, we have a TV on the main floor as well as one upstairs in the loft bedroom.
You will have beautiful views of 11,000-foot to 14,000-foot mountains nearby with amazing sunsets. The park has lots of wildlife and hiking. There are lakes and rivers nearby fishing and hunting. Visit the Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, hike Blanca Peak or you can visit the picturesque towns of Fort Garland, Alamosa, LaVeta, Cuchara and Taos, New Mexico - or you can explore further to historic mining towns such as Creed!
Great snow skiing is 90 miles away in Taos (Red River) or 100 miles to Wolf Creek. You can also stay in the park for cross-country skiing and sledding.
This cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway or a family bonding weekend - we have enjoyed this cabin for both. Enjoy a vacation of solitude and beautiful views. This would be a great relaxing getaway for a long weekend, a week or more.
We believe that you will enjoy our little home away from home as much as we have and would love to welcome you to the Hummingbird Hideaway!

About Kirk and Andrea
While spending our Honeymoon here in November 2017, we fell in love with this cabin! When the sale of this cabin arose, we jumped at the opportunity. After purchasing this property, we chose to name this quaint cabin "The Hummingbird Hideaway" and we are excited to be able to share this spectacular cabin with you; so you, too, can see why we fell in love with this beautiful home away from home!

Why Kirk and Andrea chose Fort Garland
This property not only has beautiful surroundings but with the privacy and security of being in a gated community, it offers much more than other properties that we have found. Nestled on approximately 2.6 acres, we have always enjoyed having the cabin and the area to ourselves while staying here. The homes in this community are spaced very well to allow a certain level of seclusion and privacy. Even though 4-wheel drive is recommended, the drive to the cabin is on maintained dirt roads so you can enjoy the scenery in route to the cabin. We believe that you will enjoy our little home away from home as much as we have and would love to welcome you to the Hummingbird Hideaway!

Clean, quiet and relaxing.
Owners Kirk and Andrea were great in all of their communication and availability. We enjoyed our stay at this cabin, which was well stocked, quiet and clean. WiFi worked very well. Directions and access were great too. Will return again! Thank you.
We loved our stay at this awesome cabin.
The cabin is secluded but has all the comforts of home and awesome views. The owners are more than accommodating and the place is very clean. We will be back for sure and would recommend this place for a pieceful get away.
Enjoyed every moment of our stay!
We fell in love at first sight as we pulled down the road to the cabin. Our stay was relaxing and fun. We barely left the cabin, enjoying the fire or sitting in the sun, it was a welcome respite from everyday life. Animal sightings as we traveled in and out were an exciting treat. Hope to visit again in the future!
Great cabin, nicely secluded area, transactions went well. Still waiting for deposit return...
Great and Relaxing Weekend!
We could tell this cabin has had some nice updates. Still has its rustic appeal. Very clean which we appreciated greatly. We enjoyed the internet and Roku TV over cable. Just a wonderful and rejuvenating week hidden in the beautiful Rockies scenery. Thank you Kirk and Andrea for sharing your “hideaway” place. We intend to return as often as we can.
Thank you for choosing to stay at the Hummingbird Hideaway! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your feedback, rating and review!
