Akumal Breakers is a magical 4 bedroom, 3 ½ bath beachfront villa located in South Akumal, Mexico, which is the jewel of the Riviera Maya. South Akumal is located 1 hour south of the Cancun Airport between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Besides having one of the best beaches in the area, the quiet neighborhood also has 24 hour security and a gated entrance.Akumal Breakers has one of the best beach locations in all of S. Akumal. The white sandy beach is located only 25 steps from the villa and is great for outdoor games, building sand castles or just chilling out all day and listening to the waves hit the breakers. The villa also features a large pool, plenty of beach chairs, two stand up paddle boards and two kayaks with an excellent entry into the Caribbean. If your kids want to enjoy a "real pool", then Akumal Breakers is the perfect place. The villa also has a private hot and cold outdoor shower which is a great way to clean up the children after the beach. The adults love it too!The villa is as stunning as its location on the beach. The entire villa exterior is covered with hand cut 'Piedra Maya Vista' stone making this one of the most unique and distinguished beach front properties in the area. All of the floors are made of Terracotta tile accented with Mayan wood. The villa also has a unique collection of Mexican artwork and craftsmanship including paintings, wood carvings and Onyx lamps.Akumal Breakers has a smooth sloping walkway around the side of the villa so that people with walking disabilities don’t have to climb steps to enter the living area or the beach bedroom. Although the villa is not officially ADA approved, a wheelchair can pass from the street to the living room and the beach bedroom via a gradually sloped concrete pathway. Two of the four bedrooms are considered private suites and are located on the second level. The 'North Suite' has a king size bed, private ocean front balcony, private bath and a small safe in the closet. The 'South Suite' has a king size bed, private ocean front balcony and a private bath. The "South Suite" is oversized and provides ample space for a crib or an additional Aero Bed (both are available). On the main floor, you will find the 'Beach Room' which has a king size bed overlooking the pool and the beach. There is also a large safe in the closet. The adjacent 'Garden Room' is great for children. It has two full size beds, board games, a Sony PlayStation2, DVD player and TV. The Beach and Garden rooms share a large bathroom. The villa has an on-site staff that keeps the interior and exterior in perfect shape. They can also prepare your meals for a fee and they are licensed massage therapists.

We've traveled to more than 40 countries across 6 continents and lived in Mexico City for over 7 years. We have seen the best in hospitality management and we expect this at our private villa. We absolutely love the Mexican and Mayan culture and we certainly love Akumal Breakers.
Why Lunda chose Akumal
Akumal is the jewel of the Riviera Maya and South Akumal is as good as it gets. Akumal Breakers, one of the first villas built in South Akumal, is located on one of the best spots on this beautiful, quiet, semi-private beach.
What makes this Villa unique
Each morning, we enjoy our coffee while listening to the birds and watching the clouds dance among the spectacular sunrise. Mid day views of the glistening Caribbean are unmatched. Natural Sea Grape trees provide shade only steps from the ocean which is great when watching the children. We have a large solar heated pool with non slip stone deck and we love the hot water outdoor shower. At night, we walk the beach in hopes of seeing Mother Nature at her best as large turtles often lay their eggs on our beach. As owners, we set high expectations for our trained and respectful on-site staff which is why we have a very high number of returning guests.
Pool / Spa
Sports & Adventure Activities
Our stay ay Akumal Breakers exceeded my expectations. Walking out the sliding doors into the pool and straight to the ocean....with a stop along the way for a massage on the beach. Can’t imagine anything better. The house was beautiful and fit our needs very comfortably- 5 adults and 3 children. We all agreed after walking along the beach that it was the best house and best location.
Great home for a truly relaxing vacation
We stayed here for 5 days in March...4 adults and 3 kids. The house was really great and in a great location. It was such a nice, quiet setting in Akumal Sur....away from the more crowded beaches and condo complexes in Akumal but definitely close enough to walk...especially if you want to head down to see the turtles. Another big difference vs. the main beach in Akumal was the amount of seaweed. There was very little seaweed accumulation on the beach in front of the house....whereas in Akumal, there were crews of people working each day to take it away in wheelbarrows.
The drive to Tulum is no more than 20 minutes, so very convenient if you want to do a 1/2 day trip and not lose a full day to visit. We actually spent one day visiting Tulum, Solomon Bay (for lunch) and a cenote (Sac Actun) all in one day. There are several cenotes close to Akumal.
We loved the fact that we could snorkel right from the home’s beachfront. We also really enjoyed use of the kayaks and paddle boards. We ate 3 times away from the house (Taverna Akumal once and La Buena Vida twice) and would highly recommend both locations. We would also highly recommend asking Mirna to cook a meal at least once. She cooked 2 nights for us...chicken and pork pibil one night and Chile rellenos the other night. The food was all delicious.
Mirna and Luis are fantastic and were so helpful for any questions / needs we had, whether it be to get a taxi (to Tulum / airport), cleaning, cooking, etc.
We would definitely recommend Akumal Breakers.
Great place for family vacation
This is a lovely villa on the beach with all the amenities for a great family vacation. Quiet and peaceful beach away from large resorts. Marina and Luis maintain this villa with care. They also cooked some great meals for us.
A Relaxing Thanksgiving Holiday at a fabulous villa! Can't wait to return someday...
Wish I was still at Akumal Breakers enjoying the beauty of the sand and the sun w/ my family. Our group consensus is that this villa did NOT disappoint on any level! The description on-line is accurate and we actually think that it is impossible to convey the perfection of this home. There were 7 in our group, ranging in age from 23-57. We mostly relaxed at the villa...sunning, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, playing in the sand, napping in the hammock, staring into the gorgeous cove, watching the birds (osprey, pelicans, gulls...) dive for fish. There are so many places to relax outside at the villa, that we spent very little time indoors. We ate dinner away from the villa twice (Gitano in Tulum and La Buena Vida in Akumal). We had Mirna prepare her famous pork pibil one night and another night she prepared 3 appetizers for our meal (ceviche, quac, and pico). One day the guys fly fished in the flats (thru Pesca Maya) and the gals shopped in Tulum. We rented a suburban (Hertz) for our group and that was GREAT!! The villa's in a small gated community w/ security at the entrance. We felt safe 100%! We used the grocery store delivery service (for food and beer) that the owner suggested and we stopped at the grocery store in Playa Del Carmen for our liquor/water/sodas; could have gotten all through the delivery service but I didn't know what everyone wanted when I was ordering the food.
Things we are glad we brought: Einstein Bagels (a breakfast comfort food), a wireless speaker for beach tunes, lots of sunscreen and hats, water shoes, polarized sunglasses, pepto bismal (a must...not gonna lie!)
Things we wish we had brought: snorkels/masks/fins--we had to purchase them there & they are way $$$$!(fins aren't necessary but helped me--I'm the old mama), pool floats with which to bob/lounge in the ocean water
Thing we brought that we didn't need: too many clothes/shoes!
Things we love about Akumal Breakers: the weather, the villa, the relaxed pace, the villa staff (Mirna and Luis) who take care of you and the villa everyday very inconspicuously (you can personalize the service and schedule them based on your preferences for privacy); we appreciated their professionalism everyday. And lastly, we love that Lunda shares her home w/ others! Thanks so much and thanks for being a great communicator. Such thorough, timely and helpful info.
And a tiny heads up: the bedroom curtains are not blackout curtains..rise and shine amigos!
Loved our stay there. The house is gorgeous, beautiful location and the caretakers are great!
A wonderful beach escape.
All 7 of us enjoyed our time at Akumal Breakers. The house is beautiful, large, and comfortable, and we all had fun in the pool and at the ocean. My children were thrilled to see baby turtles making their way to the ocean, and the stay came to an end way too quickly. And Mirna and Luis were the icing on the cake!
Other Activities: Mayan ruins at Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza. Xel-Ha only 5 minutes away. 20 minutes to Xcaret & XPlor. Deep sea fishing in Akumal & Puerto Aventuras. Golf across the street at Riviera Maya Country Club.
