Resort style accommodation with private beach caters for 6 guests and up
Perched on the edge of a tidal river, the home nestles among the mangrove and rain forest. From your palm-covered floating pontoon, the sound of running water soothes as nothing else could. Fish comes gliding gently by with the tides, occasionally breaking the water's surface creating a splash audible only enough to add to the joyful chorus of birdcalls from up above the forest canopy - nature at its most elegance.
Indulge in the joy and peace offered ... And let us pamper you in the style that only our staff can - naturally and exclusively a class above ...
Salt Lake holiday home has hosted guests from all over the world. The compound features two spacious and separate bures (bungalows). Each bure comes with luxurious beddings and an en-suite bathroom. The spacious bures are located in a tropical garden setting, and steps from the clear turquoise water of the tidal river. Both enjoy en-suite facilities, a sitting area, king-sized beds and space for a futon or roll away single bed. Each has screened in windows and doors to allow guests undisturbed enjoyment of the sights and sounds of forest and river life. There is a private balcony outside each bure. Under one bure is a large screened-in lounge where guests gather for conversations, reading or watching movies. In-between the bures are the open-air kitchen and verandah where guests dine al fresco, within view of the river and the air scented with a variety of fruits, flowers and rich tropical vegetation.
Just because we are in the thick of nature where civilization seems a world away doesn't mean we let go of the nicer things in life. At this rustic-luxe tropical home where picturesque, charming, tranquil, serene, simple but stylish are but a few adjectives used to describe us, modern comforts interweave with timeless natural surroundings to give guests the best of both worlds.
Various water sports are available from your doorsteps. Activities such as boating, remote snorkeling, deep see fishing, diving can be arranged at an additional cost. We also have a forest spa on the compound which is staffed by licensed masseuse and masseur and available for service for an extra charge.
For the convenience of our guests, we provide chef service offering gourmet style home-cooked meals, for an additional cost. Our talented chef can create a variety of exquisite dishes - from delicious island cuisine to international fare, using all the land has to offer including organic fruits, herbs and vegetables, along with imported food items. Menus can easily be adjusted to accommodate vegetarian choices or food allergies.
A Fijian feast called "Lovo" (food cooked over heated rocks underground) is a must while in Fiji. We can arrange to have a delicious private Lovo feast made near the beach, where you could help in the preparation - from marinating, weaving coconut frond baskets to hold food, to building fire, to heating up stones for cooking. It is an unforgettable experience and great fun for the whole family.
If you have a special occasion to honor or celebrate, we could arrange to have a table set on the floating pontoon in the middle of the lake with the chef delivering his signature dinner by boat. On this memorable event, please make request to the manager on arrival regarding food preferences and cost, and any other arrangements you need to make this a truly exceptional occasion.
From our location, you can enjoy a broad range of activities that include hiking, biking, kayaking, walking along the coastal road or through the rain forest, or snorkeling in the pristine waters of the Koro Sea. Fishing is unsurpassed in these waters and readily accessible. Visits to Fijian village and local church service are available and easily arranged.
Besides having the most unique location in Fiji, what is even more remarkable about us is the staff. Here you will enjoy the standards of personal service one finds only in the most exclusive of resorts. If you have been searching for something extraordinary, look no further.
Though you are never far from the town center and a mere 5-minute walk to the island's main roadway, the resort's unique location allows you the luxury of privacy and seclusion. Created to blend naturally with island life, here is the hidden paradise.

About long lee
We are American expats having lived in Fiji for three years about 20 years ago, and never forgotten the charm of the land and its people. On retirement we decided to visit Fiji to view the home at Salt Lake which property we had viewed for years. Up close and personal, the home's beauty and serenity indeed surpassed our imagination. Then and there we decided this was the place we wanted to be - certainly a paradise deserving to be shared with others.
long lee purchased this Lodge in 2016
Why long lee chose Savusavu
We love Fiji where the land is still largely unspoiled and undeveloped, and where people are happy and friendly. This stunningly beautiful property sweeps down from the hilly forested area to the waterway which feeds Fiji's Salt Lake from the Koro Sea. There is tidal access to the Lake and the Koro Sea from our own waterfront where a delightful new reef is being formed. From this corner of paradise, life blossoms - rich tropical growth coloring the uneven landscape, interspersing with coconut and tropical fruit trees, which produce naturally organic and delicious fruits. It is easy to be at peace with oneself and all the world here in this peaceful and serene environment, where the chirping of birds and rustling of leaves provide the only sound and chorus of the day.
What makes this Lodge unique
Beautifully remote yet only 30 minutes from town, our home is situated at the edge of the waterway leading from the Koro Sea to Salt Lake. Ensconced in a rain forest with coconut and fruit trees with the reef, lake, and river practically at our doorsteps... this is Fiji!

Amazing Fiji getaway
I wanted my kids to experience the real Fiji, away from the tourist/resort stuff. The Salt Lake Lodge was exactly what I was looking for, something laid back and out of the way yet still comfortable.
Ac and the staff were very accommodating. My kids went fishing and swimming almost every day, and we took little adventures with Solo to go to the waterfall or snorkel at split rock. That lake is no joke - it is huge and you have almost the entire thing to yourself.
We opted for the chef every night, and Jose did not disappoint. Each time we mentioned little things we liked or didn't like, they were able to adjust quickly. I was particularly impressed at how many creative ways they were able to make things like cakes without eggs for my daughter that has an egg allergy. The food was comparable to a night out a restaurant every night. They even did a great job preparing the fish we caught.
I decided not to rent a car, which worked out great since the staff was available to help take us places, but I can see how some people might prefer to do more themselves and make their own meals.
We were initially concerned about the drinking water, but they assured us it was collected rain water, and sure enough, it tasted great and none of us got sick. They also have bottled Fiji water if you prefer, but I couldn't taste the difference. The showers are solar powered, which was kind of interesting.
The only thing that didn't work out without a hitch were the bicycles. I think they need new chains or something and the pump didn't work. But my kids had more than enough to do, collecting crabs from the beach and playing with the three dogs.
Little things I'll remember, like being able to play music over their bluetooth speaker, or being able to grab a beer, or watch a couple movies at night on the comfy couches in the screened in room surrounded by the sounds of the forest. Or reading books on those chairs floating on the river's edge in the mornings.
Tip: bring some insect repellent. And don't expect much internet connectivity (which was a plus for my iPhone addicted kids)
If you are still trying to decide, just go. You will have fun and be amazed.
The best in fiji!
My husband and I could nor have asked for a better experience. This place had it all! Great view, perfect location, everything you could ask for. On top of that, the staff was AMAZING! Lily made us the best meals, uncle Toby made sure everything was always perfect and the private tour guide Solo was so nice and knew everything about the culture. The owners and their son Tyler were a delight. We can't wait to come again and we already miss "our little family".
Amazing Private Retreat!
I had an amazing time at the salt lake lodge! our Chef/guide Shavneil, was amazing! he took such good care of us! He is an amazing chef! every meal was magazine worthy and delicious! I fell asleep every night to the river flowing outside my window. and woke up to fish jumping! I've never been so sad to leave a place! I would love to plan another trip soon! thank you Salt lake lodge for your hospitality!
Bula,We are all happy you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again soon.

Vinaka from everyone at Salt Lake Lodge.
Merci Anne, we enjoyed meeting you and are very happy you had a fantastic Fiji Experience.
We hope to see you again some day.I can understand almost everything in your review BUT my French is not good enough to write . Thanks again. Regards from Sonja and Andrew.
Romantic Secluded Getaway
The property was nicely nestled in a dense and largely untouched tropical mangrove forest right on the clear salt lake river. While it was only a short five minute walk from the main road, the lodge was wonderfully private. We were able to blast some tunes on their speaker system in the shared beach house area without concern of disturbing any neighbors.
We stayed in the Riversong Bure, which was a clean and beautiful little room situated a little ways away from the main area. When we were there, we were lucky to have the entire place to ourselves, but for those sharing the main beach house with other guests, our little bure would be the perfect private retreat. The kitchen was clean and modern and fully stocked. The owners, Andrew and Sonja, were great hosts giving us lots of local fruits and vegetables and accommodating our various needs. Using the free hand lines at the dock, we were able to catch large fish for almost every meal during our stay - so if you're a big fish eater you might get lucky with lots of delicious free meals.
All in all, the Salt Lake Lodge was a wonderful retreat and more than we could hope for. My husband and I were on our mini honeymoon and couldn't afford too much and the lodge far exceeded our expectations! Definitely stay here if you are looking for a really private escape and don't mind catering for yourself.
Unique, Fantastic Getaway
Our family spent a month at Salt Lake Lodge and had one of the most memorable holidays of our lives. The property is beautiful, secluded, interesting, comfortable and the perfect place to relax and explore Fiji. Sonja and Andrew were very kind, knowledgable and accommodating throughout our stay, attending to details, providing an expert perspective into life in Fiji and making sure we were comfortable and happy. They were fantastic hosts. Don't miss the opportunity to go deep-sea fishing with Andrew! He went out of his way to make sure our kids got the chance to catch a fish and took us to beautiful spots around the coast. He and Sonja taught us about local wildlife, showed us how to harvest and prepare local fruit, "wowed" our kids with nature facts and projects and made sure we never ran out of fresh fruit and freshly-caught fish. We loved swimming in the lake, visiting the local village, kayaking, hiking, learning about local flora and fauna, eating fresh yellow fin tuna and barracuda, harvesting amazing local fruit, snorkeling, making friends with villagers and relaxing on our private beach.
The property is spotlessly maintained and admirably eco-friendly. There is plenty to do if you want an active holiday and lots of space and privacy to relax if you simply want to get away. Salt Lake Lodge is one in a million---don't miss it! Thanks again for everything, Sonja and Andrew!
Lovely to hear from you and we are happy you enjoyed your holiday in Fiji. We appreciate your great review.Thankyou.
This beach front home is situated on a 5-acre compound among the mangrove and rain forests, with a well tended luxurious tropical garden. Kayak to Salt Lake or the uninhabited island facing the sea, or simply enjoy swimming, fishing and snorkeling off the pontoon. Salt Lake is fed by ocean tides flowing over the reef from the Koro Sea via the Qaloqalo salt river. The lake covers an area of about 100 acres and is a fantastic place to fish and kayak. Home of the legendary sea god Dakuwaga, the river was an ancient passage for the Fijians who carried their canoes over the hills from the Salt Lake to the great Natewa Bay the largest in the South Pacific. The bay has pods of spinner dolphins, remote snorkeling and deserted beaches. Anglers can fish the reef, river, lake lagoon and the nearby Koro sea - all just minutes away by boat from the property. The area's reputation as a rich fishing and snorkeling grounds with bountiful natural habitats on land and at sea remains largely hidden beyond those few in the know. Sightings of turtles, reef fish, soft and hard corals, trevally, yellow fin and dolphin are the norms here. A few minutes walk from the compound takes you to the main coastal road of Hibiscus Highway and from there, about 30-minute scenic drive to Savusavu town and the airport. Savusavu is a quaint South Pacific island town where you can find amenities such as a post office, yacht club, pharmacy, shops, grocers, open air markets, restaurants. A visit to the town would also give you insights to the rhythm of Fijian life, the notable Fijian friendliness and hospitality, and enrich your experience during the stay at this idyllic tropical getaway. Other activities: Kayaking, swimming, boating, snorkeling, diving, fishing, tubing, biking, walking.
