Modern villa with private pool and stunning views down to Monte Clerigo beach

Sandhills is a well maintained, secluded villa with a private pool. It has 3 light and airy bedrooms (2 double, one with en-suite bathroom, and one twin) and a family bathroom. There is a bright spacious living room, dining area and well equipped kitchen. It can comfortably sleep 6 with cots available for infants.

Being a modern build, Sandhills is an open plan, single storey villa, with doors opening directly onto the terrace area from the back bedrooms and kitchen allowing easy flow to the outside terrace and pool area. It is equipped with broadband, smart TV, Bluray player, satellite channels and a selection of DVDs, books and games, as well as a stereo/CD player with aux output. The kitchen includes everything you will need for your holiday from coffee machine, blender, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, all cooking equipment and serving dishes and utensils. A washing machine is available in the garage.

Sandhills is perfectly located (within the Costa Vicentina National Park), for both an active holiday or a quiet retreat. Situated on the edge of the Vale de Telha urbanisation, it is close to local shops, and Monte Clerigo village and beach is just 2km away. What's more it is just a short drive from many other amazing local beaches, amenities, shops and restaurants. The area is an incredible location for any ability level of surfing, body boarding, cycling, rock climbing, wake boarding, kite surfing or horse riding. Or you can simply discover the un-spoilt splendour of this area by walking along the Rota Vicentina, which is a long distance path (350km in total) along the SW coast of Portugal, part of which is the Fishermen's Trail which passes infront of the house.

Aljezur is a small town just 10 minute drive away and has a large supermarket with fresh meat/fish counter, municipal market with fresh fish and vegetables and many restaurants, cafes and surf and gift shops.

Directions
Take N120 north of Lagos. As you approach Aljezur, turn left towards Monte Clerigo and Arrifana. At T junction, turn right and continue for 7km to Monte Clerigo. Pass through the village and take the beach road up out of the village. Sandhills is 2km from the beach on the right hand side.

Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Very close to the undeveloped dramatic western coast and its many hiking trails.Quiet area with lots of privacy.The house is spacious and comfortable. Nice views from the front outdoor sitting area while you watch the sun rise and a large relaxing pool area behind.

We had a really nice stay. Everything is available in the house and close to a great beach: never crowded and great waves if you like surfboarding or bodyboarding. Although we did not meet Kate in person due to our late arrival, she provided us with all the info needed to visit, eat, shop etc!

The property had everything you might need, was clean and comfortable. You need to drive as the nearest restaurant/bar/beach are a good walk away and there wasn’t any public transport/cabs. The welcome was great and the local manager available for any queries. A very relaxing stay helped by a lovely clean pool.

Sandhills is a spacious, well laid out and well equipped villa in a very quiet area with stunning beaches. The villa felt a little dated and in need of some TLC in places. The outside space could benefit from some new furniture (table and chairs) and some weeding around the pool area would make a huge difference. Host was amazing responded very quickly and sorted an issue with shower immediately. None of the above points affected our holiday, we still had a lovely relaxing time. And loved the sunset at the beach.

Great holidays

It was a very good week, with an excellent location and an outdoor pool to enjoy the summer days. The house is well equipped, however some small things could be improved, namely the availability of the garage for parking (since there is a car parked there) and some of the green doors on the outside do not close. However, it was a pleasant week.

Sehr positiv war der sehr kurze Weg ans Meer und zum wunderschönen Strand Monte Clerico mit nur 2 km. Somit konnte man am Abend immer sehr spontan wunderschöne Sonnenuntergänge genießen. Was wir die ersten 2 Tage etwas unerfreulich empfanden war, dass sehr viel Verkehr direkt am Haus vorbeifährt. Das war so nirgends zu vernehmen . Dennoch sind wir gerne nach unseren Ausflügen in das Haus zurückgekehrt. Das Highlight ist definitiv der Pool

A nice stay

This rental is a good location from which to explore the southwest coast of Portugal, both the Alentejo and Algarve regions. A highlight for us was the local Monte Clerigo beach: just five minutes’ drive away, no stairs to access it, and never crowded during this off season (March). Rota Vicentina is just out the door, with its walk overlooking the beautiful beaches from above a similar five minute drive away. Sunsets are also viewable from the nearby cliffs and beaches. Between the house’s information booklet and the property manager, there were more suggestions of restaurant, grocery sources, and activities than we had time for. The house is well equipped. However, beds are made and towels provided only for the number of guests staying. So if you are fewer than a full house and want an “extra” bed or towel, you will need to ask. We found the property manager to be reasonable and very responsive to our requests. A couple of things to be aware of: The “ocean view” description is only accurate from a side living room window or from just outside the house along the road. And the house, while not surrounded by neighbors, does get traffic in the front (off the main bedroom and living room) and has a neighbor on one side. Neither of these detracted for our enjoyment, but I mention this because it might not be to some people’s liking. Overall, we had a pleasant stay here and would recommend Sandhills to other visitors to this area of Portugal.

We are the Frasers and we bought our Portuguese home in the Spring 2014, after countless fabulous family holidays in the area.
We've been coming here for all our family life. The kids are now 23 and 20 and still love it as much as we do. There is always something for them to do, whether it is surfing, biking, rock climbing, lounging by the pool, or some days we will head south and go to a water park, coasteering or spend a day on the south coast where the beaches are very different.

What we like most about the area is it's similarity to Devon (where we live) and Cornwall, but with guaranteed sun!

The villa is the best we've stayed in as it flows so well from inside to outside with double doors from both back bedrooms to the patio and pool area. The patio is wonderful sun trap, completely secluded and protected from any wind.

Why they chose this property

We were looking for a property in the vicinity, but this one stood out against everything else we'd seen or stayed in, due to its simplicity, its layout and use of space. Charlie's parents bought a property near Faro in the 70s and Charlie spent many summers in the area. Today, the west coast is like the south coast was 50 years ago. But the beauty is that we are within a national park and the area is protected from mass development.

What makes this property unique

We like sitting out at the front early in the morning and looking at and listening to the sea. We can spend all day at the villa and then love to head down to the beach at 4pm for a surf.

We love watching our kids safely surfing in the sea.

We love the sweet smell of eucalyptus as we approach the area from Lagos.
