About Tracy Dahl
My husband and I are avid trail runners who love running up and down the mountains of Virginia (and wherever we travel).
Tracy Dahl purchased this Cabin in 2019
Why Tracy Dahl chose Etlan
We fell hard for this cabin property after our friends purchased it and hosted many a post-run feast. We were delighted to be able to buy the cabin from them and are excited to continue making memories on Old Rag with our friends and young son. We're sharing the property with you in the hope that you'll create unforgettable memories of Shenandoah during your stay, too!

Such a great place. We are repeat renters for a reason. If you love Old Rag or the mountains and wineries, this is your place. Owners are great and very responsive. We plan to be back very soon!!
Ragged Run exceeded our expectations! The 5-acre mountain side setting was quiet and peaceful. The cabin was extremely clean, nicely decorated and well stocked. The owners thought of everything! We spent our days hiking, with a visit to Luray Caverns on a drizzly day and an afternoon at DuCard Winery which is only 2 miles away. Late afternoons we spent sitting in one of 4 seating areas on the private stream that runs along the property, sharing a bottle of DuCard. Evenings were lovely around the fire pit star gazing. Hot tub for cool weather, private swimming hole for warm weather...this cabin has it all! We will be back!
This was a great escape that allowed our family to enjoy nature and Shenandoah scenery. The cabin is well stocked and the owners are very attentive to the renters needs. Bringing our pet was a great bonus!
Our stay at The Roost was incredible! The house was clean, comfortable and so very relaxing. The screened in porch was heaven, as was the hammock. We hiked in Shenandoah, cooled off in one of the many swimming holes in the area, took the dog on several walks down the secluded gravel road and enjoyed time sitting around the fire pit. The owners were easy to contact and helpful in regard to any questions we may have had. Food Lion and Walmart are located in nearby towns so shopping was easy and much of what we needed was already provided. There is no trash pick up at the house but the owners provide detailed instructions on where to take it and the process went very smoothly. Thank you Tracy and Keith for a wonderful vacation experience!
Little piece of heaven snuggled in the Shenandoah mountains
The Roost is truly a wonderful place. Tracy and Keith were great hosts. My husband and I requested a reservation 2 days before we planned a last minute mountain getaway. We were a little worried we wouldn't get a response in time and and would have even less time to find a different place. Tracy responded within a few hours even though she herself was out of town. We arrived at the Roost a little early for check-in and had the pleasure of meeting both Tracy and Keith who were finishing up mowing the lawn and cleaning the hot tub. Both really nice people! They even brought us apple cider donuts from a local bakery to enjoy. The cabin is lovely! Nicer than the pictures. It's very private, but not isolated. It was clean, well appointed and very comfortable. It's very open and cozy. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the cabin, giving each some privacy. The bed was very comfortable after long days of hiking. I could live in the screened porch! A wonderful space to drink coffee while the sun rises or relax with a glass of wine in the evening while listening to the cicadas. The hot tub is great! We really enjoyed using it after hiking the scramble on Old Rag and Whiteoak Canyon!! The grounds are really beautiful. We didn't have an opportunity to use the fire pit, but will look forward to it on our return. We also really enjoyed the private swimming hole. The only regret we have, is we didn't stay long enough!! My husband and I love to travel and do it whenever we can. We are usually always on the go, rarely giving ourselves very much time to relax. This is one of the few times we allowed ourselves a little bit of relaxation. We really wanted to do nothing but hike and enjoy our surroundings. The Roost was perfect. We look forward to coming back with our family -- for a longer visit!
Beautiful Natural Setting for a Relaxing Vacation
This mountain cabin was perfect for our family of 4 (two teenage boys) plus our dog. The location is convenient for many hikes in Shenandoah National Park. We chose to hike White Oak Canyon on a very hot day and cooled off in the swimming holes and natural water slides. The cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was too hot during our stay to use the fire pit or hot tub but I'm sure they would be perfect on a cool spring or fall evening. We especially liked the private creek access and swimming hole on the property. We spent hours playing in the cool water and relaxing by the creek. The cabin itself had everything we needed - a large DVD selection for a movie night, board games, comfortable dining areas (kitchen bar, large dining table, and table on porch), and a well stocked kitchen including condiments! The check in process was easy and efficient. The welcome book had suggestions for local outings, hikes, shopping, restaurants, etc. The owners thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable. We hope to plan another visit to this area and will stay at the same cabin!
Our cabin is in the shadow of Old Rag Mountain, the most popular hike in Shenandoah National Park. It's a quick drive to the trailhead from our place. We're also a short drive from another fantastic but lesser-known hike: White Oak Canyon. And we're just a three-mile drive from DuCard Vineyards, which makes hyperlocal wines and has great musical entertainment on Saturdays. The nearby local institution, The Little Country Store, in Etlan can hook you up with pizza -- and BBQ if you're there the right day.
