TABOGA ISLAND HOUSE COMFORTABLY SLEEPS FOUR - If you do not wish to incur an additional fee please go through our Tres Terrazas site directly. Enjoy our private, 900 sq. ft, one+ bdrm house, an open den with queen bed and fantastic views! We offer the best of both worlds: a lovely island retreat and a thriving city located just 10 miles away! Your private, gated entrance is surrounded by night blooming jasmine and hibiscus. A spiral staircase leads you to the large terrace where you can sway in hammocks under ceiling fans while enjoying views of Panama City, ships transiting the Panama Canal, and the surrounding islands. There are also views of colorful roof-tops, cupolas, and the downtown church steeple. A large, fully equipped kitchen and plenty of light make cooking a pleasure. You can relax at your terrace dining table while listening to the splashing of the fountain as you linger over a late breakfast or barbeque your fresh fish. It is a short two minute walk to the waters edge and nearby restaurants. From your terrace you might catch a glimpse of migrating whales as well as dolphins who frequent the waters.

Isla Taboga is a small island of about 900 friendly people in the Pacific just 10 miles from Panama City. This lush island boasts nice beaches, hiking trails, assorted wildlife and gorgeous flowers. Thus, the name, the 'Island of Flowers'. It is always warm in Isla Taboga with an average daily temperature of 88F. The water temperature averages 82F making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling and fishing. There are numerous fiestas throughout the year with music and fireworks.

Taboga Island is a preserve for thousands of pelicans who come to nest every year. You will also find ospreys, comorants, anteaters, cranes, iguanas, turtles and boobys. It is a great bird watching area! The following list is but a few you can find here: Blue-black grassquit, Blue-gray tanager, Great black hawk, Great kiskadee, Orange-chinned parakeet, Red-legged honeycreeper, Royal tern, Spotted sandpiper, Tropical kingbird, Yellow-bellied Elaenia, and the Yellow-crowned night heron.

Enjoy swimming, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, island water tours, kayaking, beach combing for old ceramics and some great restaurants!

From Taboga Island you are only a short 30 minute ferry ride from Panama City with much shopping, historic sites and many great restaurants. We have a wonderful new ferry, Taboga Express, located on Amador Causeway by Restaurant TGI Fridays and Balboa Yacht Club which departs Panama at 3pm. The Ferry Schedules are located on our Tres Terrazas website for your convenience. There are daily flights into Tocumen International Airport with Continental, United and American Airlines, among others. From the airport you are a twenty five minute taxi ride to the heart of Panama City.

We are happy to recommend a good hotel or put you in touch with an experienced guide for tours to the rain forest, Panama Canal and the interior. We live next door to Tres Terrazas so we are available for any help you may need during your stay!

What makes this house unique

The views and the privacy are two of the best things about the house. You can see Panama City, Isla Moro, Isla Tabogilla and at times can spot both whales and dolphins out front. Enjoy your morning cup of coffee or tea on your private terrace with a sunrise view and birds singing. The ferry service allows you to take a trip into the city for site seeing or shopping and you can catch the afternoon ferry back to the island in time for the sunset!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Although Mr. Thompson pens a beautiful comment we must address one item. Unfortunately, we do not have a "360" degree view.

What Tres Terrazas does have is a "180" degree view encompassing the city of Panama, ships transiting the canal, the Bay of Taboga, Isla Moro, Isla Uraba and Isla Tabogilla.

Charming and comfortable spot on Tobago Island

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful choice, very spacious, spotlessly clean, well represented by the photos on the listing. After a tiring day of traveling it was just what we needed to be greeted by our wonderful hosts with their warm welcome and very friendly and complete check in. During our stay we spent most of our awake time on the covered porch which is fantastic, great views, and a nice place to sit and just watch island life literally pass in front of you, or take a nap in the hammock. Staying here was the highlight of our trip to Panama, highly recommend.

Sea Views

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Tres Terrazas, especially the shady verandah with the views and the hammock! The location is good, a short (up and down hill) walk to everything and not far from the ferry landing. The locals are friendly and usually said hello as we passed. Our hosts, living next door, were helpful and friendly but did not "hover". The rooms were clean and spacious for the 2 of us however, if 2 couples were there, the bathroom is en suite and therefore perhaps not an ideal situation.

You really do have to bring any food you need to have, or eat out, There are two tiny grocery shops and we did find a couple of items but choices are very limited, as we'd been told. The apartment has a selection of books to read or exchange, which was nice.

The listing was pretty accurate although, for our purposes, the kitchen was not what we would call "fully equipped". Perhaps we should have requested the items we could have used. The Wifi was erratic at times but, apart from those two mild criticisms, we were pleased with our choice and would recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: As we live right next door and are always available to our guests it is curious we did not hear of the kitchen needs. We are always very pleased to provide anything from our kitchen our guests might need. The rental kitchen, in addition to stove top, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots and pans, utensils for the kitchen and BBQ, plates, bowls, cutting board, sharp knives and a wide assortment of other items has always been more than sufficient for our guests needs. However, if you need anything we are always just a hello away!

Island Living

  • 5 of 5

I agree completely with the many positive reviews for Tres Terrazas and I will attempt to add to them. As the pictures show the apartment is very large with a high ceiling. What they do not show is how spotlessly clean and well maintained the owners keep the rental. There are ceiling fans in every room, even two on the patio, and a very quiet split unit air conditioner in the bedroom which I used at night. The apartment’s water is as soft as rain and is as good as any I have ever tasted. I lived on it for a week and never felt better. Jeannette and Thijs are native English speakers and answered all my questions when I had problems with Español. They are also two of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. The only hiccup on my week stay was when the island’s generator went out for an hour one night. But even that was fun because when the power came back on the town’s residents let out a cheer! There is a new ferry service from Panama City called Taboga Express. I never used it but the locals were very excited about it. The best part of Tres Terrazas of course is the location. My fantasy was always to live on a small isolated island and Isla Taboga certainly fits that bill. The biggest surprise of my stay was the almost complete lack of insects and rain on the island. I do not know if the two are related but it certainly was enjoyable. I could watch it rain almost every night on the mainline but only once on the island. As the temperatures in the Midwest of the USA are approaching freezing my mind wanders to my next trip to Tres Terrazas.

Owner's Response: We so appreciate your kind words about us and our rental! My husband installed a quadruple water filtration system, including charcoal filters, many years ago which does ensure our water is very pure. We don’t, as mentioned, have very many bugs to deal with on our island. As all our windows are screened there is little chance they will enter the apartment if there happen to be any wandering by. Our new ferry service, Taboga Express, is indeed a real treat for all as it departs and returns five times daily. Please find their schedule information on our site Tres Terrazas. As of late our lovely warm rain has picked up with some incredible lightning shows across our skies to enjoy as well!

Owner's Response: It was wonderful to know your family enjoyed your stay here so much the first time that you decided to return for your last few days in Panama. We were also happy to share the dorado my husband caught as there was plenty for everyone! Nothing like fresh fish on the BBQ or pan sauteed with olive oil and garlic. There is also a great restaurant which serves my favorite fresh coconut curry fish dish - yum!

Relaxation an hour outside of manic Panama City!

  • 5 of 5

You will not be disappointed booking this apartment!

Get out of the city to relax in your hammock or catch some sun on the clean beaches.

Large kitchen to prepare your meals to eat on the fabulous terrace with stunning views. (restaurants readily available if this isn't your thing)

Plenty of space for my friend and I - we had the best stay!

Couldn't have been looked after any better by Jeanette & Thijs, even provided some fresh aloe when the sun got the better of us.

A narrow spiral staircase for entry so make your luggage light and small.

Would recommend for a chilled out break from it all!

Owner's Response: We are so very glad you had a great stay relaxing at Tres Terrazas. And as you mentioned, it is an hour away from the city with the Calypso Ferry and only 30 minutes with the National Ferry. It is always a good idea to bring sunscreen with a high SPF as we are located about 8 degrees from the equator. As we only had so much space to build a private entrance for the rental the spiral staircase is a bit narrow. But even folks with large bags can manage them one at a time or there are always friendly locals, who, for a couple of dollars are happy to give you a hand!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying at Tres Terrazas for two nights in February. With the storms back east where I am from it was so wonderful to walk around in shorts and sandals, swim in the warm water and relax in the hammock on the expansive terrace. The views, like everyone else says, are incredible and it is a quick walk to the beach. There are several restaurants with delicious food and the people are quite friendly. The meticulously clean apartment has total privacy but Jeannette and Thijs live next door and can help you with whatever you might need. Wish I could have stayed longer!

Owner's Response: Having spoken to this gentleman during his stay we can totally understand his wish to stay longer. Taboga Island and its warm waters was just the breather he needed from Boston and all the massive snow storms. We have been receiving rave reviews from many of our guests regarding the restaurants we recommend. Everything from award winning ceviche, fried yucca and home-made pizza. At the moment there is an abundance of fresh red snapper for all of you fish lovers! One restaurant serves a delicious coconut curry whole fish dish. Or just bring your own steak and barbeque it on your terrace!
