A Note From Your Host (The Owner): Welcome to "The Amsterdam House," my three-family Victorian home in Jim Thorpe. I'm Laura, the owner, and I purchased this property—specifically the second-floor "NYC Suite"—as a retreat from New York City. My love for the Netherlands inspired the name, and the apartment's urban feel reminds me of Soho lofts. Having lived in NYC for over 30 years, I find Jim Thorpe's charming, slower pace and historic architecture a perfect escape, echoing my passion for Amsterdam. My mini schnauzer, Copine (French for 'girlfriend'), and I invite you to enjoy our home away from home!

Great location. Apartment was as expected. We did not have any wine experience so could not comment on that

Thank you Ashmia! I wonder if there’s a typo… I’m not sure what you mean by you don’t have wine experience? Did you try to go to a vineyard? Hope to see you again, and Jim Thorpe is lovely and warmer weather also!
The property was super clean and very well stocked with everything my wife and I could have needed. The location was super central to all the cute shops and restaurants ! The host was super kind and made wonderful suggestions on where to go and what to do during our stay. We will definitely be staying there again.

Thank you, Brian! It was lovely to host you and your wife! Hope to see you, in Jim Thorpe, again one day.
Very nice older home, converted into these rooms. The 3rd floor room we were in was beautiful, comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay. Having parking included nearby was a life saver. Also being able to have our dog, specifically allowed us to stay another day because it was pet friendly. The host is great, helpful and communicates well.

Jason, wife and pup are a great family to host. Great communication! Hope they can return again to Jim Thorpe.
This is the place to stay if visiting the Jim Thorpe area. The apartment is beautiful and central to all the town offers. The owner is welcoming and provides excellent directions. Highly recommend!
The accommodations were perfect for two people and a dog! The unit was clean and well-organized, and instructions for check-in/out were very clear. Location could not have been better, just steps from the opera house. Will definitely stay here again!
This apartment was everything the host said it would be and more. Very comfortable, very clean, and within walking distance of downtown. I would stay again, without a second thought.

Thank you, Valerie! It was wonderful to host you and your family. I hope to see you again in Jim Thorpe. Happy Holiday's!
Clean and well equipped place walking distance to all the attractions in Jim Thorpe. Laura was a great host. Very responsive and offered a much needed later check out time.
Great location for this third floor apartment with all of the required amenities included. Once you are settled in this cozy spot a variety of options are available for entertainment or just being a couch potato. Out around town which is practically at the door step you can walk, shop, eat, drink, bike, hike, fish, train ride go kayaking, sight see in the historic site that is Jim Thorpe. Short day trips are also a must to appreciate the overall beauty of the area. Thank you Laura for a great stay. Would definitely return in the future for another stay.
No better place to stay when visiting the delightful town of Jim Thorpe. This historical property is located in the heart of the town. Close to everything you will need or want. Best to plan on walking or biking after parking in your reserved parking place-about .3 miles away. Checkin and checkout were a little hectic just because you have to double park to unload and load. This property is immaculately maintained with comfortable surroundings. Laura is very responsive host. We LOVED our stay!

It was lovely to host you during your recent stay. I’d like to clarify that the parking is a five minute walk/1 minute drive.
Parking is a premium in Jim Thorpe because it was a horse and carriage town. Most people park their cars and don’t need to use them during their stay.
Glad you had a nice trip.
We had a wonderful time! The apartment was beautiful and just what we expected except for one detail. I was not clear to us that we had to walk up to the third floor. We are in good shape but with a dog this is less than ideal. The apartment is so nice and well situated that we would consider to stay again but would probably look around for perhaps more convenient access. Laura did such a great job explaining all the details right down to the parking!

I will double check my listing. I’m sorry that was not clear. I do have a first floor apartment that might be better suited with a dog. Thank you for letting me know and glad you have had a good time.
Wonderful Host - just a text msg away, if needed. Very nice apartment - So Many thoughtful touches. Perfect location to town. Quiet in the evenings. Comfortable furniture and indoor climate control. Very handy kitchen nook. Dedicated parking spot. We lacked for nothing. We will most decidedly look to stay with Laura again !
This property was a joy to stay at! My best friend since the first grade and I met in Jim Thorpe for a long holiday weekend over Labor Day. We can sit and talk for HOURS and this property allowed us to do just that. And when we got hungry from all the talking, we could walk outside and find all kinds of great restaurant options and then we came back to the apartment and baked cookies! We really appreciated having a parking space for the car which proved to be invaluable as we took advantage of Penn's Peak, white water rafting and driving to a few great hiking sites. I would love to come back to Jim Thorpe and I would definitely stay here again.
Cute little apartment in the middle of Jim Thorpe, PA
Overall the apartment and the town was super cute. In the apartment, everything was very clean and modern. The building is old but Laura has done a great job of renovating and revitalizing the space that you would never notice.
This didn't impact my experience negatively, but I did observe there were copious amounts of notes/suggestions across the apartment which seemed like a bit much at times but I can understand: better safe than sorry!
Overall if you are looking for great hiking, biking or just want to be in the mountains, this was an excellent place to stay. Thank you!

Thank you, Blair for your review. Yes, unfortunately, it is necessary to leave some notes as some guests need an extra reminder…which the next guest ie changing WiFi settings etc. or burning something on the electric glass stove top which can remain very hot for a long period.
You are a lovely couple to host. Cheers.

Front steps were dangerous. Host was intrusive after texting a message, if not herd back immediately your phone will ring with the same message at Thanksgiving dinner. Had to walk on pins and needles even though her dog was the noisiest thing there. Even in town she seemed to be there. Says pet friendly sure if you want to spend most of your time looking for a place for your pet to go. As for the smoker, if you go out back on the patio
you hear about it. The neighbors will smell your smoke
even with all the fire places burning. Not a good experience.

As a well respected host, I request that upon settling in that the guest will ‘confirm that everything in the lodging is to your liking’
During a 3 night stay the only time I heard from this guest was to request a very early check in which given the holiday I was happy to have that flexibility.
Then radio silence.
I tried to reach them on the VRBO app and then via text—to no avail. So I did telephone them.
I have been hosting for 5 years and thankfully never had such an unpleasant experience like this person.
I will now make my property 100% non smoking in the backyard as I could see that as soon as let them know about the complaint(s) from my neighbors that their would be attempted retribution.
Their dog is very sweet and it was sad to see him constantly pulling on the leash in an aggressive manner.
Again, I am grateful that this person is an anomaly/outliar.
Ironically, after checking out (again without any confirmation of leaving the parking pass which is easy to forget) he telephoned me… I began the conversation with a sincere appreciation of how tidy they left the suite. He went onto list many complaints… then requested that I mail him the dog bowl and blanket that they thought was left behind. No offer to even pay for postage. Fortunately, they did not leave anything in the apartment. Of course they would’ve sent it back and I would’ve requested that he pay my cleaner for doing that which has happened many times.
We enjoyed our weekend visit to Jim Thorpe to take our daughter on the scenic railway and try out the bike path along the river. The weather was quite chilly, but we were still able to enjoy some activities outside. Laura was a hospitable host. We enjoy our coffee, and were pleased to see the unit had plenty of Nespresso options. The unit was clean and furnished comfortably. Our review was less than 5 stars due to lack of thermostat in the unit. We messaged Laura when it was too cold, and she was able to turn on the heat in the building. We were surprised when we woke to 60 degree temperature without heat on in the morning. We stayed warm under blankets. We used a space heater during the day, but didn't feel it was safe to use at night. We previously have lived in New England >100 year-old homes/apartments in the cold and usually the radiators are kept on to maintain temperatures.

Yes, it was unfortunate that the radiators went off. It’s rare that it happens because it’s on a nest thermostat. It’s on my to do list to get mini splits to remedy the situation for both AC and heat.
My husband and I and our dog chose this place for a few days' getaway to explore Jim Thorpe. The apartment was very clean and well-appointed. The decor wasn't super-fancy, but all the practical needs were more than met with a few luxuries thrown in. I did all my own cooking and the kitchen was very well stocked and comfortable. For being on such a busy tourist street, the rooms were actually pleasantly quiet, especially at night. The location gives really easy access to the main strip of attractions on Broadway in Jim Thorpe and you can walk to the restaurants, shopping, the train station, etc..Pay attention to the fact this is a third floor walk-up, no elevator, so you are carrying ALL your luggage and supplies up and down many many stairs. And quickly, because you can only stop your car out front briefly, it's a bit precarious out there. The walk to the assigned parking space takes roughly 7 minutes. It's a pleasant walk, but if you have any issues or it's bad weather, it could be a hindrance. The owner was super helpful and really made an effort to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. If you are bringing a dog, be aware there really are no green spaces (even small patches of safe grass) anywhere nearby. No neighborhood parks to easily walk to, no bits of lawn, no dog park, etc.. That said, there are TONS of dogs around Jim Thorpe and many of the local residents and businesses are highly dog friendly! So you can definitely make it work.

About the host
Hosted by Laura Young, Owner and Host
I am Laura and I purchased this Victorian home so my schnauzer, Copine, and I could visit, ride bikes and also share it to others who could enjoy all that Jim Thorpe has to offer. Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions you may have. I am a bit new at VRBO and hopefully a quick study. Hope you can visit us soon.
Why they chose this property
Laura purchased this 3-unit home because she fell in love with the location and the unique character of each of the apartments. It has plenty of old-world Victorian charm while still having the modern conveniences our guests require.
What makes this property unique
Laura often lives in the apartments herself, so the place is fully equipped to serve you the best. Almost all dining, shops, historical jail, Asa Packer mansion and museums are a stones throw away. The Opera House is literally diagonal from your home away from home
