Highland Sage: Downtown Oasis, Private Fenced Yard and Relaxing Patio

With the Highland Sage as your home base in Durango, you will be able to park your car and walk everywhere in town. Walk four blocks and arrive at the heart of downtown with its restaurants, cafes, shops and the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

The home is a pleasant and comfortable half-duplex with a fully enclosed landscaped back yard with patio and grill. There are three bedrooms and one bath. Kitchen and bath are updated and kitchen is well-equipped with stainless steel pots and pans, nice dishware, and organic staples. The queen bedroom is on one side of the living room and kitchen, and the double and single rooms are on the other side. The twin room contains a desk should guests want a dedicated workspace. The Highland Sage offers plenty of storage in closets, kitchen cabinetry, and a large mudroom which is great for gear storage. The beds are are solid, plush and comfortable. A good night's sleep is key! Evaporative cooling in the Summer also provides for restful nights.

In addition to Main Avenue and downtown, walk several blocks to the Nature Trail and Sky Steps. The neighborhood is pedestrian and dog-friendly and the block on which the Highland Sage resides is especially quiet and peaceful.

Guests are welcome to bring two pups, provided they don't get on furniture and aren't big barkers. No cats (sorry). Note that after booking, you will receive a brief rental agreement to review and sign with basic items such as no parties or events and pet authorization if applicable.

The Highland Sage has dedicated use of the fenced backyard while the other half of the duplex has dedicated use of the front deck, allowing for privacy and each for each of the homes.

The Highland Sage has a large entry room for gear storage and extensive kitchen cabinetry. With this and the backyard to stretch out, the Highland Sage is a great choice for longer stays.

August 2025 Note - The Highland Sage is an active rental but has in recent years been rented via sites other than Vrbo. I now list exclusively on Vrbo, and the Highland Sage will be available for rent starting in September 2025.

Location was perfect and we loved having a yard for our pups to play in. Only suggestion would be a different couch for the living room. It was too small for three people so someone always had to find a chair or sit on the ground. Otherwise the place was perfect. Loved the location and how it was walking distance to downtown for shopping and food.

This house was INCREDIBLE! Not only location but Victoria was awesome!The house had everything we needed and more. This is a great location in Durango and the host (Victoria) is so helpful and sweet. The layout of the unit is a little tight in the kitchen but the backyard was great for our two dogs and we managed just fine. The street is quiet, the neighbors kind, also a very walkable location to local restaurants/shops. Definitely recommend staying here or in any other of Victoria’s rental properties.

This home is cozy and comfortable with a tremendous backyard. We slept great and spent most of our waking hours in the backyard, reading, while our little dog ran around. Everything in the home is modern and clean. The appliances all work great and we never ran out of hot water. The yard is well-maintained and free of weeds. The parking area is private, located at the back of the house, just outside the back gate. Trash and recycling bins are easily accessible and bear resistant. The area is pedestrian and pet friendly with shops and restaurants less than a 10-minute walk from the home. Everyone is polite and friendly.The owner is wonderful and quickly answers texts or emails. We plan to make this our frequent vacation destination.

Highland sage was the perfect home for our family of 4. It was centrally located with easy, quick walks to downtown shops and restaurants! Upon checkin, we met Eddie who was cleaning the adjacent unit. He gave EXCELLENT recommendations for restaurants. The home was exceptionally clean and very well stocked for all of our needs. Check-in was easy, all directions were clear, a problem with Wi-Fi password was quickly addressed. The kitchen was like being at home, everything essential, plus more was provided. Adorable house in great location

The house is very cute with a great backyard and super-easy walking distance to Main Ave and an in-town hiking trail. House is very clean, kitchen has lots of shelves, and the whole house very pleasant with nice amenities. Definitely our go-to place for future trips to Durango.

Served in Cameroun, West Africa with the Peace Corps a few decades ago. Returned to wait tables, drive buses and ultimately earned a degree in civil engineering. I moved to Durango in 2005 and worked as Professional Engineer for the county, having the opportunity to learn a lot about the area and work with great people. I chased Buddhism for a long while, having great adventures in the US and abroad, and ultimately found truth in the salvation offered by Jesus Christ. I have the opportunity to share the gospel with those in jails and recovery centers, and continually learn from the women I get to meet. Otherwise, I am learning to garden and enjoying for the first time a flock of chickens, who are so much fun! I love reading and learning and walking pretty much anywhere, even including all around cities on the rare occasions I find myself there.

Why they chose this property

I love that this duplex is right downtown where guests can park and walk everywhere. While many may drive out for adventures during the day, they can park at night and walk to Main Ave. Others choose to just leave the car completely and walk everywhere - such a great way to decompress and so relaxing. I love that while the home is so central, it also has a quiet, peaceful feel.

The backyard in the warmer months is an oasis - green and lush and spacious right in the heart of downtown. The Highland Sage layout is a little funky, but very functional, clean and fresh, well-equipped with essentials, and with lots of storage space for gear. For those with pups, the backyard can make all the difference in vacation, and anything that allows people to completely relax during their time away brings me joy.

What makes this property unique

Ideal location. Five-minute walk to the heart of downtown restaurants, shops and historic train. Fully enclosed, landscaped backyard. Dedicated work space (if not using twin bed for sleep space) overlooking yard. In addition to downtown, the Nature Trail and Sky Steps up to Fort Lewis College are just a few blocks away. Easy launch spot for everything in town and a peaceful place to which to return and relax.
