About this property
Gorgeous Luxury 5 Bedroom Family Villa Pool Air-conditioning Powerful Mesh WIFI
Dar Ta Nina is just a two minute walk away from Xaghra's beautiful square with its excellent selection of some superb restaurants and bars.
There are also a couple of excellent small mini markets, two butchers shops and five minutes away is the well stocked Lighthouse supermarket and deli store.
Xaghra is also home to the fabulous Ggantija Megalithic Archaeological Park.
The temple complex pre dates the pyramids of Egypt.
The Xaghra Windmill is well worth a visit and is step back in time.
Our stunning five bedroom, 300 year old house of character is a haven of peace and tranquillity and has been tastefully renovated and furnished throughout.
Guests and friends say that the house has the feel and style of a baronial castle due to its central wrought iron chandelier, original thick stone walls, high ceilings and galleried stairways.
The house has the benefit of a powerful Mesh, high speed WiFi system throughout.
Set over three floors with a private outside pool and garden patio, the house has been fully renovated to exacting standards.
Our home contains many original features including high ceilings, huge wooden beams, traditional Gozitan floor tiles and a wealth of stone arches.
The craftsmen built kitchen includes a polished marble counter top and a larger than standard Samsung fridge freezer. A large capacity stainless steel oven with five burner hob offers holiday chefs the opportunity to create their own dining experience. We like to cook and entertain and have therefore provided high grade pots, pans and utensils along with restaurant quality crockery, cutlery and glassware. A full sized built in dishwasher takes care of the washing up!
The handmade dining table will easily seat 10 to 12 guests and is overlooked by a feature lit ancient rubble wall, set within a tall stone arch and has views out to the swimming pool and garden.
The thoughtfully designed garden area is also equipped with a 10/12 seater dining table and chairs along with a brick built barbecue, stainless steel sink and ambient lighting to enjoy the lazy Gozitan evenings.
The garden also features an ancient and functional freshwater well that is covered by a laminated glass top for the safety of our guests.
The lounge area features an L shaped handmade sofa, another three seater sofa and a 55 inch Samsung OLED Smart TV giving access to Amazon Prime TV and Netflix. You will also find a DVD Blue-ray player and a good selection of hit movies. An Xbox and a selection of games will keep the youngsters happy.
For music lovers we have a Revo Supersystem high end streaming system where you can access internet radio from around the world, DAB & FM radio for local stations. You can also stream music from your Spotify account or via Bluetooth from your personal device.
A traditional huge Gozitan feature fireplace takes pride of place and our winter guests will have the pleasure of being warm and cosy in front of the Norwegian Jotul log burning stove.
You will also find a bookcase housing board games and some great holiday novels. Relax in the comfy armchair with a good read. Please replace any books (if possible) should you need to take one home to finish.
At the rear of the house our guests will find the ground floor double bedroom which is air-conditioned and next to that an open plan wet room and toilet with rainfall shower. This bedroom and bathroom is suitable for guests who may have mobility issues. The bathroom also houses the very latest Samsung, Eco friendly washing machine. You'll also find a steam iron and ironing board within the store cupboard.
.
The first floor is accessed by the magnificent marble and steel staircase which in turn leads to the central atrium gallery overlooking the lounge.
Three double bedrooms and the family bathroom are accessed from the gallery which in turn leads to the steel and marble spiral staircase to access the third floor, open plan master bedroom suite.
Each bedroom has either a Revo Supersignal DAB/ FM radio with Bluetooth capability which doubles as a remote speaker or a Revo Superconnect Internet radio with DAB/FM and Bluetooth capabilities, so that you can play music from your smart phone or other device.

About the host
Hosted by Craig & Andrea
We are a married couple who both come from Manchester, but now live and work in Cheshire in the UK.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Gozo on our first visit to the island in 2013 and decided to return again in the following summer of 2014. We had no real intention of buying a house, but circumstances and fate led us to meet a local estate agent (Nick P).
Nick listened to what we liked and what we didnt like when it comes to houses and after seeing almost every house on the island that possibly fitted the bill, we resigned ourselves to the fact that what we wanted didnt really exist.
We then recieved a call from Nick asking us to meet him in Xaghra and to have an open mind......
We were led down a small cul de sac, described as an alley by the Gozitans to a dramatic shell of a building. The house had last been lived in around 40 years ago and had originally been built around 300 years ago. The original property had been divided in two and then both properties had undergone a huge transformation by building a large, but seamless and sympathetic extension onto the rear of both.
Nick introduced us to the builder and owner, Charlie A, the islands master Stonemason and we then took the grand tour of the property and Charlie described the work that had been carried out and also his vision of how the house would look when finally completed. We were hooked!
Hands were shaken and a price agreed for both the shell, but more importantly for Charlie to complete the work and deliver our dream home.
The paperwork and finances were in place by the winter of 2014 and in early 2015 Gozo's finest craftsmen were on the job. The guys all worked like trojans and delivered to us our beautiful and unique Gozitan home.

What makes this property unique
The house really is quite a grand affair and comes with bags of history.
Its last owner occupier was Nina and the house had been within her family for many generations and was at one time the home and workplace of the gentleman who brought the first Carrozin (horse drawn cabs) to the island of Gozo. (research ongoing) Nina lived in the house all of her life and eventually became an old lady and is fondly remembered by the locals who were children at the time. The house had no running water and Nina would draw water from the well next to the front door (no mean feat when you look at the depth!) She also cooked on an open fire and the soot blackened stone is still in place between the huge stone arches.
The house is now transformed and yet still retains many of it's original features. It's thick and imposing stone walls and high ceilings and arches, along with the central atrium lounge and galleried staircase give the whole property the feeling of a grand baronial hall.
The garden now has a unique swimming pool. The pool is fed by the recirculating waterfall and then cascades over the lowered edge giving a wonderful, relaxing sound of flowing water.
The roof terrace at the rear of the house has distant views over the channel and onwards to Malta, whilst the front terrace has distant views towards Victoria and the Citadel and also the hills of Zebugg.
A wonderful place to spend a relaxing evening with family and friends.
