Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, and built in bunks in main room sleeps 6, 1 bathroom

This is probably one of the prettiest spots on Mount Desert Island, on big Long Pond, the largest lake on the island. This camp has been in the family for 3 generations. The camp is 12 paces from the water, with a private dock and artistic curving bridge to the dock. A big stone fireplace in the main room. Two built-in twin bunks and a double bed in the main room. Also separate bedroom with double bed for parents. This is perfect for a couple or small family. Everything you need for a relaxing vacation: listening to the loons at night, kayaking, canoeing, biking or hiking during the day. You can swim right off the dock. An 18 ft canoe for paddling is provided for use. At the end of a well-maintained private road. This is a charming and rustic cabin, lovingly built and well maintained.

Cozy with a View

  • 4 of 5

Absolutely charming. If you love rustic and the outdoors, this is the cabin for you. We chose it for being close to family on the island, and ended up staying at the cabin more than at their house! Would love to stay again. It's hard to beat a full moon over Long Pond listening to the loons.

Cabin on Long Pond

  • 4 of 5

Great place. Easy access to all of Acadia National Park and also an easy drive to Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Trenton, etc. The location on Long Pond is great with water views and a private dock about twenty feet away. There is also a two-person canoe with the property, which we used several times, avoiding the hassle of renting one at the Long Pond agency. The cabin is not luxurious but is overall quite nice. New gas range in kitchen, full size refrigerator, etc. Sleeps six but there is only one relatively small bathroom.

A few updates and minor revisions would be nice- screen doors slam loudly and the French doors at the back could be adjusted to allow more optimal closure and avoid insects entering the cabin.

Overall, I would highly recommend the cabin. We had a great visit.

Another lovely stay on Long Pond!

  • 5 of 5

The moment the front door screen “slams” – ever so gently - behind you for the first time, you feel that you have never left from your previous visit. Everything is in its place and you feel right at home, right away. Your first concern is to see that the lake hasn’t changed or moved and sure enough, it is right there, just as beautiful as always! Now you can’t wait for the next morning for that early morning ride over glassy waters…

Our days usually start with a cup of coffee as we board the camp’s green canoe to take our first ride around the lake to watch and hear nature awaken. Those are the moments we remember long after our return to “the big city” (Portland!) for the peace they afford us. It continues to be magical no matter how young or old we are.

After a morning run nearby or on the carriage tails, lunch on the deck and siestas are in order followed by a little swim before the sun travels too far west and leaves the dock. We also often opt for a long hike or walk and this abundance of activities makes us particularly appreciate the occasional rainy or cold day when it feels perfectly acceptable to simply lounge around and not leave our little camp!

In the late afternoon, who would want to leave such a special place when preparing a late dinner is accompanied by the giggles of happy children still frolicking in the water? We certainly wouldn’t. Cooking is one of our favorite times of day and the camp’s well-appointed kitchen perfectly lends itself to the preparation of any food you’d like including grilling outside or baking a ripe berries pie.

When it is finally time to get some well-deserved rest, a good book – the real kind, a paper book, with old yellowish pages that smell like a copy of the Hardy Boys – is your companion as you retire to the comfy bedroom and lay your head on a feather pillow to the tune of singing loons… It won’t be long before the lights go off and dreams of your next canoe ride extend the pleasures of the day.

Thank you for another perfect camp experience in “our” little camp on Long Pond!

Eight years in a row

  • 5 of 5

Eight years in a row pretty much says it all - we love this place and keep coming back! Secluded, yet close to all that Mount Desert Island offers. Great location if you love kayaking, canoeing, swimming, or just relaxing lakeside.

Location, Location, Location!

I am almost reluctant to write this review because this cabin is so awesome I want to keep the secret to myself. We have been staying at this cabin every year for about 8 years after staying in other cabins around Maine. The property and the view are unbeatable. This type of cabin is why you go to Maine. Acadia, Bar Harbor or just sitting on dock listening to the loons cannot be beat. It is not like a hotel, if I wanted that I could stay in New Jersey. The cabin is cozy and cared for by the owners. It is a great value and we are lucky to have the opportunity each year to refresh ourselves in this beautiful retreat.

Mount Desert Island is home to Acadia National Park. There is an extensive hiking and biking trail system of carriage trails and more challenging terrain. Great kayaking right outside the door on Long Pond or down the road in the ocean from the Pretty Marsh landing about 3 miles away. Lots to do and see. The local repertory theater is just 2 miles down the road. Wonderful New England hospitality and seafood. Mount Desert has long been the second home to some of the wealthiest families in America.
