This lovely waterfront Perdido Beach home is the ideal location for a family reunion, group retreat, or just plain relaxation. Five generations have enjoyed this historic home. Built in 1930 by Charles Marks of Montgomery, it has just undergone extensive restoration following damage from Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina.
Perdido Bay is in the front yard. Dolphins, herons, pelicans, and fish live in the Bay, which is beautiful in every season. Gentle breezes and the music of the waves stir around the house, making it incomparably tranquil. The water is warm and brackish, perfect for swimmers of all ages and shallow enough for young children. The neighborhood is semirural and quiet.
The house sleeps 14 guests and features a gourmet kitchen. Most furnishings are brand new, and a few antique family items maintain its rustic appeal. The house has central heat and air, as well as a gas fireplace for the winter months.
There are four bedrooms – three of which face directly onto the bay – plus a couch with a pull-out queen-sized mattress. Heron is the Master Suite, with a king-sized bed and private bath. Pelican, best suited for children or young adults, sleeps up to 6 children or 4 adults.
The bunk bed has a double bed on bottom, a twin bed on top, and a trundle bed. The day bed also has a trundle bed. Palmetto, at the end of the porch, features a queen-sized bed. There is a large double vanity bathroom shared with Pelican. Cypress is the most private bedroom, secluded at the far end of the house. This bedroom has a double bed with a private bathroom. Two more optional twin beds hang like porch swings on the front porch.
The gourmet kitchen is every cook's dream. The large granite island is perfect for serving fresh crab and fish. There are two sinks, a gas range, ultra-quiet dishwasher, microwave, oven, and lots of counter space. The kitchen, dining room, and living room flow together to make one open great room. The dining room table, dating from 1930 and original to the house, seats 14 easily.
A spacious screened porch, with hammocks, swings and rocking chairs, surrounds the Great Room and bedrooms. The back porch is the site of a ping-pong table just waiting for family tournaments or games to be enjoyed by all ages.
There is a well-stocked laundry room complete with washer/dryer, bath towels, beach towels, linens, pillows, games, toys, and floats. A canoe is available for exploring the bay and adjoining creeks and bayous.
The Gulf of Mexico, with unspoiled, dazzling white beaches, is just a short drive away. The bustle of Gulf Shores/Orange Beach is also close, but not too close, and offers shopping, restaurants and sightseeing. Pontoon and speed boats are available there for rent and boats can be chartered for deep-sea fishing excursions. The Tanger Outlet Mall is just a short 20 minute drive away in Foley for anyone looking for bargains galore.

There are several owners -- siblings and cousins. We all love our place.
The Owner purchased this house in 1930
It was beautiful and peaceful here in 1930, and it still is.
A swimmable bay and beach in the front yard. Going to the you-pick blueberry farm. The way the house invites us to relax, play and visit together. Family suppers with everyone at our dining table.
Our family LOVES Mark's Ark...we lovingly call it the "Alabama House". It is such a great place to relax and connect with family. I slept in the cottage and loved every minute of it...so charming. We kayaked, played ping pong, sat on the porch and loved every minute of it! Thanks Priscilla and family for making such a special place available to the rest of us! I hope Winston is doing good...give Reggie a pat on the head for us.
This is our third February visit to Mark's Ark over the past four years! The layout of the home, the gourmet kitchen, the many bedrooms off the wrap-around porch and now the restoration of the guest house make this a perfect getaway spot!! The home is fully equipped, immaculate, and the owner, Priscilla, has become a great friend...so easy to work with. We shall return!!
Fabulous home! We have stayed here three times with seven children. There is plenty of room and space to spread out. The ping pong table is a hit, and we love the kayaks and canoes! The water is perfect for little children! We love sitting on the porch and cooking in the huge kitchen. The extra refrigerator in the laundry room provides plenty of space for extra food and drinks. My children always ask to go back to this house. We all love it!
We were absolutely pleased with our stay at Mark's Ark. It was perfect for our family. Plenty of room for all of us to be together. The arrangement of the bedrooms allows for private and quiet times too. Can't wait to go back.
There were 12 of us church ladies staying here ,we enjoyed the house and surroundings very much ,we would come back here again . very quite ans enjoyable.
Everything was just as we saw it on the website and more. The house was well stocked with things that we have normally had to add to in other homes we've rented. And even though this house is not right in the middle of the action, it was still easy enough to get to a small grocery and larger one when we needed it. The property was definitely clean and well-maintained and the owner helpful in answering all our questions. We most definitely would recommend this property. Since we have been to the general area often, we know where all the attractions, etc. are located, and it is nice not to be in the middle of that traffic and if we want to go to those, we would just plan the day and make the time. It fit our needs perfectly and we hope to come back again.
