About this property
GORGEOUS LARGE HOME on OCEAN close to ACADIA NATL PARK and SCHOODIC
A large beautiful waterfront home on the tip of a peninsula with truly spectacular views of Frenchman Bay and the beautiful mountains of Acadia National Park! Relax day or night on the large wrap-around porch, or play on the expansive lawn directly on the ocean. From your comfortable porch perch you can start the day watching lobster boats and seals, porpoises, eagles, and other sea life go by while sipping your favorite beverage and having breakfast. At night, watch the moon and stars sparkle or catch a shooting star on the water over dinner or drinks with family and friends. This 6 bedroom / 5 full bathroom property has the perfect combination of modern upgraded amenities, including high-speed internet, yet with a vintage New England feel. This is a large family home loved by many generations of the same family for its unique and incredible views, its game nights, and its authentic old-time feel. Perfect for a medium or large family, two families vacationing together, reunions, anniversaries, Maine adventures, a family hosting guests, or anyone with a desire for a glorious ocean-view house with plenty of cozy spaces and a welcoming community full of activities in the coveted Hancock Point.
Hancock Point is a special Maine community with a long history. There is a lot to do within a short walk from the house! Seaglass hunt on Carter's Beach, visit the public wharf to skip stones, swim (if you dare!), kayak, or sail in the bay (sailing program available for kids), play tennis on clay courts (kids and adult lessons also available), walk one of the local trails or just around the Point to take in the surrounding beauty of bay and islands and coast. You can also visit the community library, the non-denominational chapel, or the fabulous Crocker House Restaurant and Inn.
We are centrally located between Acadia National Park and Schoodic Point, with lots of hiking and activities in both directions. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are a 45-50 minute drive away. Acadia is the home to Cadillac mountain, Thunder Hole, Sand Beach, Abbe Museum, the quaint coastal town of Bar Harbor, and incredible hiking, biking, and kayaking. Schoodic Point, an extension of Acadia 30 minutes north of the house, also has many beautiful hiking trails and views. There are several restaurants a quick car ride away, including Iron Bound, Chipper's, Itty Bitty Diner, Crocker House, and Jordan's Snack Bar. The property is located 20 minutes from the city of Ellsworth with more shopping, restaurants, Hannaford's, and Shaw's markets.
This property has a 4-7-day minimum, depending on the week, with Sundays as the usual day of arrival/departure/cleaning. Please inquire if you need to arrive another day. We look forward to hosting you here!

About the host
Hosted by Andrea DB Absher

This is a family summer home that has been lovingly renovated and recently updated. We, Andrea and Doug, as siblings, manage our own VRBO site, and along with our locally based property manager, we manage the house and property.
Why they chose this property
This property has been loved for four generations, with many fun-filled dinners, game nights, weddings, wonderful morning coffees and breakfasts, lazy afternoons, or fun dinner or drinks overlooking Frenchman Bay from the porch. While we love using the house ourselves, we also love sharing it with friends and guests.
What makes this property unique
This house sits on the very tip of the peninsula, and it is hard to fully comprehend the exquisite views of the bay, mountains, and islands, until you are here experiencing it for yourself. Beyond the view from almost every room, this is a grand character home built in 1903 that has been renovated and yet still feels homey and genuine. It has charming spaces and original furniture that make it intimate and cozy even though it has many bedrooms & bathrooms. While meals with family & friends, fun games, creative piano playing, and other memories are created indoors, the porch is the ultimate destination. The covered central porch has built-in cushioned benches, a table for four, and deep shade where one can eat breakfast or lunch or spend the entire day drinking lemonade and watching the lobster boats, loons, porpoises, and sailboats pass by as the kids play on the expansive lawn. Or sit in a rocking chair in the sun reading a good book, daydreaming, or creating your own new favorite use.
