Amazing location!

We spent a wonderful two weeks at this property perfectly located in Ortigia. The rooftop patio was the perfect place to enjoy a late afternoon aperol spritz!

Perfect place to stay

We had a lovely few days in Ginevra’ house on Ortigia. It is perfectly located and nicely decorated. We enjoyed dinners on the roof terrace and cool rooms downstairs when we needed to escape the heat. Very comfortable for 6 of us.

Lovely apartment in a amazing location

First visit to Sicily, we opted to stay in Ortigia which was a great decision, the apartment is close to the daily market, being able to buy fresh fruit and veg every morning was a lovely bonus. The island of Ortigia is a wonderful place and a must visit, Alberto was very helpful during our visit

Fantastic place in great location in wonderful city

The place was perfect for us. A great location and easy walk to the morning market and the sites. We cooked each night in the kitchen and sat in the terrace each late afternoon. We would return on our next trip to Siricusa which is a fantastic place.

We love Ginerva’s place in Rome and this apartment in Ortigia exceeded our expectations. It was comfortable, beautiful, close to everything. Alberto who checked us in was very helpful.

Perfect Location

This lovely property is the perfect home base to explore Syracuse and Ortigia. Very close to safe public parking, the rooftop terrace is ideal for a sunset glass of wine, while the cafes near the Temple of Apollo offer your morning cappuccino and excellent people watching just steps away from the wonderful market. Alberto was responsive and helpful at both check in and departure. A five star stay for sure!

Great location

3 friends in 70s stayed for a week as part of a longer trip to Sicily and Naples. The property is well placed close to the sea and it’s easy to walk to restaurants and other attractions. The accommodation is quite quirky. It’s located over 3 floors and the steps are quite steep and winding so not suitable for very young children or people with mobility problems. We managed just fine and loved the roof terrace, it must be particularly useful in the summer, we were there in February but still got some days up there. Loved Otigia, it’s winding streets and its cats!

Great location!

The property was just as advertised. We stayed 5 nights and felt safe in the neighbourhood near the market. It was an easy walk to the Duomo and historical city centre. Our only complaint about the property was that the interior floors were not washed clean and the house had a musty smell, particularly on the main floor.

Great location

Great location with a great feel to it - gird your loins to climb the stairs but you get better at it by the second day. We loved sitting on the rooftop terrace having a drink at the end of the day. Some of the services need a litle love and attention. We pointed out the problems with the washing machine to the manager - I'm sure they'll deal with them promptly.

Ortigia Style!!

The apartment was just great for our month stay in Ortigia. Plenty of room for 3 people and terrific location. Alberto, our Ortigia contact for the apartment, was extremely helpful with any glitches or questions we had. He was quick to respond to our needs for the apartment or travel assistance,. Ginevra has created a cozy and typical Ortigia apartment that shows her love of the area. She also responded quickly to questions and needs when renting and provided information that was most useful during our stay. We would highly recommend the apartment for a short or long stay while in Ortigia. Lots of cafes, restaurants and safe neighborhood to all the the sites and joy of Ortigia.

A winter respite in Ortigia

We stayed at Ginevra’s apartment for a glorious month. We were there dec/jan and the weather was mild and sunny enough for morning swims. Our family of 4 was very comfortable in the apartment and loved the proximity to the market. We bought fruit and vegetables almost every morning and loved to cook lunch at the apartment and eat on the rooftop terrace. The kitchen is minimal but has everything you need. In the evenings we enjoyed a game of checkers before heading out to explore the town. We were very at home in this art filled retreat! We will cherish our month in Ortigia! Thank you to Ginevra for opening your home to us and to Alberto for the warm welcome and ease of communication!

Great location to explore Ortigia and Syracuse

This is a great house for up to six family members or 3 couples. You will be staying in an ancient city so expect to be comfortable but in a renovated but old building. The host is great and very helpful. I was a bit apprehensive at first as the address does not show up on google or iMaps. But we were given great directions and were met upon arrival on the road adjacent to the property which is on a small alley off a pedestrian alley. The neighborhood is safe and consists of a maze of alleys that lead to the main market and streets that run the length of the island. You can walk anywhere on the island within 15 minutes and I can't think of a more charming or convenient location. We stayed 8 nights and left the island 4 times; for a visit to a winery on Mt Etna, to Noto to see the Baroque architecture and the famous Caffe Sicilia and to go to the beach twice at Lido Sayonara in Fontaine Bianche. Otherwise there is so much to see and do in Ortegia and the main city of Syracuse within walking distance that our rental car spent most of the time parked. Street parking is difficult but the pay parking lot across the street is a 5 minute walk from the house. I would highly recommend this house as a home base for a visit to Ortigia. There is good air conditioning (essential in the summer heat) and strong wifi throughout the house. My wife and daughters and I had a great time.

Authentic living in Ortigia

We were privileged to be one of the first people to stay in this nice property. We had a very warm welcome and from the very beginning we felt like home. The owner Ginevra and her friends were lovely and more than happy to help in any regard. The house is a typical Sicilian house in the historical center and has been newly renovated by Ginevra herself in a charming Italian flair with many details. Don’t expect the high tech style of a 5* hotel, but if you like authentic and stylish design, you will love it. The house has 3 floors and a roof top terrace, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 kitchens.We were only the two of us and chose one of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor with two large windows and a comfortable double bed. We used the 2nd bedroom on the same floor as a dressing room, also because this one had a wardrobe. The two kitchens are well equipped. There is a large one on the ground floor, where you also find a cozy living room. The smaller kitchen at the top floor is only a few steps away from a great terrace. We mainly used the upper kitchen, because we mostly went out for dinner. But having breakfast in the morning or enjoying a glass (or two) of delicious Sicilian wine with some olives in the evening at the roof top was beautifully amazing.We also found a grill on the terrace and decided to have two great fish & sea food barbecues from the market. The market is only 2 minutes from the front door and the best place to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood. Shops and restaurants are all just a walk away. Food is great at nearly any place in Ortigia and you´ll find our special highlights and recommendations in Gineva’s guest book. Ortigia still is authentic and real. You find everything you need - Sicilian Style - without being too touristic. Ortigia is a great place and if you want to see and visit the more suburban surroundings, a car is recommended, although parking (and Italian traffic) is challenging. Ortigia is a good place to start a visit to the nice Baroque cities as well as Vulcano Etna and the nice coast. If you are lazy you will find cozy little bays at Plemmiro. Just 200 meters from the house there are steps to a wooden swimming platform. The water looks great there. We loved getting lost in the little walk ways and strolling over the wide Pizza Duomo We didn’t love leaving Ortigia and that nice apartment we called home. We would thoroughly recommend staying in this property and would love to come back - anytime!

Le charme à Ortigia

Logement hyper charmant très bien situé. Une vraie maison sicilienne, décorée avec bon goût. Alberto nous a très bien accueilli. Il est réactif pour chaque petite demande. Points positifs : - emplacement - maison de charme - 3 belles chambres avec chacune leur sdb - literie très correcte - terrasse sur les toits - équipement maison - climatisation - proximité plage et marché - Alberto! Points négatifs : - pression de l'eau (difficile de prendre 2 douches en même temps) - chaleur cuisine du haut (seul pièce sans clim ni ventilateur) Bilan ultra positif

Super accueil d’Alberto qui a pris le temps de tout nous expliquer : parking, restaurants... Il faisait un peu froid la première nuit et les sanitaires ont quelques petits soucis mais rien de grave. Alberto nous a changé la bouteille de gaz à 8h du soir !

Tres bon accueil d'Alfredo sympathique et arrangeant Belle décoration vintage Tres propre Située en plein centre de la ville , près de la mer , du parking couvert et de tous les lieux touristiques à visiter à pied La Salle à manger et la chambre du rez de chausse sont sans doute plus agréables l'été qu'en cette saison du fait d'un manque de lumière naturelle Cependant Nous y avons passé un nouvel an Tres agréable Juste un bémol concernant la salle de bain du bas : la disposition de la douche et du lavabo rend le lieu peu pratique à utiliser à deux personnes en même temps Le plus : la terrasse et sa cuisine Nous avons pu y prendre notre petit déjeuner en cette saison ! Bref nous avons beaucoup aimé Syracuse et ses environs

very charming house in one the the most beautiful cities in this region

We had a very nice stay in Ortigia; the house is comfortable and very charming, with everything you need to cook and the wifi. it is located in a nice area, near the market and the port. We were welcomed by Chiara and Alberto who were very nice and helpful (they showed us where to park the car and even proposed to take us to the station); Ortigia is a very beautiful place, one of the most beautiful in this part of Sicily. Coup de coeur à Ortigia, Syracuse

Nous avons passé une très belle semaine chez Ginevra dans son très bel appartement, très bien placé sur l'île d'Ortigia, à Syracuse. L'appartement est spacieux, aménagé avec beaucoup de goût, et dispose de tout ce qui est nécessaire. Trois salles de bain pour trois chambres, 2 cuisines, 1 cuisine salle à manger à côté du living en bas et une deuxième à côté du "roof top". Cette terrasse est très agréable le matin au petit déjeuner et en soirée pour déguster des poissons grillés provenant du marché d'à côté. Nous avons été accueillis à la maison par Chiara qui s'est montrée particulièrement agréable et nous avons croisé Ginevra à l'aéroport qui a été de très bon conseil pour nos démarches. Nous sommes des habitués de la location à l'étranger et nous avons eu un grand coup de cœur pour cette location tant pour la maison que pour ses hôtes. Marie et Marc

Coup de coeur à Ortigia, Syracuse

Nous avons passé une très belle semaine à Ortigia, Syracuse. La maison est très confortable et aménagée avec goût. Elle dispose de 3 chambres spacieuses, de 3 salles de bain et de 2 cuisines, l’une à côté du roof top et la 2ème en bas avec la salle à manger à côté du living. La maison dispose de tout ce qui est nécessaire. Nous avons bien profité de la terrasse pour les petits déjeuners et en soirée pour déguster de bons poissons, thon, espadon, gambas… grillés au barbecue tout en profitant de la vue sur les toits de la vielle ville. Une semaine est une durée confortable pour profiter de la ville mais on peut aussi y rester plus longtemps pour profiter des plages et de la douceur de vivre à l’italienne. Chiara, très gentille et agréable, nous a accueilli pour le check-in et Ginevra, que nous avons croisée à l’aéroport est tout aussi gentille et serviable. Elle nous a bien aidée dans nos démarches. Nous sommes des habituées de la location à l’étranger et nous avons eu un véritable coup de cœur pour cette location tant pour la maison que pour ses hôtes. Marc et Marie

The roof terrace was a lovely place to relax ( providing you don’t mind a climb.) The house is in a great location within the old town but only a stones throw from the harbour. It is very close to the daily market, shops and restaurants. The house has hints of nautical decor which suggests a love of the surrounding sea. If you like history the local walking tour is a must and the archeological park is only an interesting 30 minute walk away. We, a party of four friends, enjoyed our week there and spent many evenings chilling on the ground floor chatting about our day’s events, drinking local wine and vodka. It was also a great luxury to have 3 full bathrooms.

A great house with all you need and good beds !

This is a very nice and special house! Exquisitely furnished, and with great art on the walls. It was very clean and proper as well as charming ! We enjoyed staying so close to everything. The sea with nice small beaches, and lovely fresh water :) and all the restaurants and interresting historical buildings!!! We even got to know some sweet cats in the narrow streets ! And of course we tid not miss the Theatro dei Pupi ! Also close to the house.

Ginevra Lovatelli the owner of this property is Roman art historian, interior decorator and tourist guide and fell in love with Ortigia almost 10 years ago. Her dream to have a place to stay here came finally true when she bought this little building that she has restored and decorated with a lot of passion. A personal and sophisticated touch is given also by her Flemish husband’s artworks spread all over the place!

The apartment is spacious and except for one bedroom at the first floor is very bright. Furniture and decoration are simple and unique thank to the paintings of Ginevra's husband and the old pieces she personally found restored and recicled to create unusual pieces of furniture.
On the top floor a lovely terrace overlooking the rooftops is accessible climbing four more steps from the summer kitchenette. Here you can relax sunbathing, reading a book, sipping fresh Sicilian squeezed oranges or having a barbecue and few glasses of a good wine with your family or friends.
Located few steps away from the little, charming square “della Graziella” which takes its name from the old neighborhood between the ruins of the stunning Greek temple dedicated to Apollo and the colorful open air market. Few steps away from cafes, shops and two of the best restaurants in town.
A 5 minutes walk brings you to the closest access to the sea Forte Vigliena where you can relax swimming in clean water and sunbathing on big rocks or on the typical wooden platforms even if you are in the historical centre of a city!
A 10 minutes walk will bring you in the famous square of the Cathedral and a 15 minutes walk to the romantic spot of the mythological spring “Fonte Aretusa”
