About this property
Remodeled waterfront home with new private dock on Lake Nantahala!
This remodeled lakefront three story home will make your vacation extra special with swimming, fishing and boating off of your private dock! Three kayaks are available for you to leisurely view the pristine nature and wildlife around the beautiful Nantahala Lake. This home is conveniently located near the Lake’s End Marina and Grill, Bartram Trail, Murphy and Cherokee Casinos, downtown Andrews, Franklin, Wayah Bald and white water rafting on Nantahala River. Sit on the deck with your family to drink coffee, play games and enjoy the ever-changing scenery.
This convenient but very private lake home sleeps six upstairs. The addition of the ground level studio with loft adds 1 additional sleeping space for seven total. Two bedrooms are in the main part of the house on the second level. One queen bed is in the master and one full bed and queen are in the second bedroom. A fold away cot is also stored in the second bedroom closet. A full bathroom is located on the second level. An open concept den, dining area and kitchen are on the first level. The laundry room and half bath are off of kitchen on the first level. The lower level of the house is accessed through a separate entrance and contains a lounging area with satellite tv, half bath, kitchenette and loft sleeping area (twin bed).
Walk to the bottom of the driveway then across Wayah road to your private 20'x20’ dock, swim ladder and kayaks! The lake levels are controlled by Duke Power and begin dropping at the beginning of fall. The dock will eventually rest on the sandy surface in mid to late November. Unfortunately, residents of lake Nantahala have no control in this matter. You can still enjoy fishing off the dock and deploy kayaks for water fun and beautiful views.
Rent a boat or jet ski at Lake’s End (1/2 mile drive) to explore the many coves and swimming areas. Go river rafting in Bryson City on the Nantahala River for more water fun!

Great place, great trip! Our family loved kayaking and swimming in the lake, and going white water rafting with the nearby natahala outfitters company. Chris was a wonderful host. Highly recommend!
The property is beautiful and so peaceful. The lake is large and not too busy. A really convenient spot to rent a boat and enjoy the lake. Very comfy house with everything you need. The only slight problem was the basement apartment had a musty smell and most people wouldn't want to stay in there.
TLDR: It would be hard to imagine a better house, a more beautiful setting, or a more gracious host. Our trip to The Mountain Laurel Retreat was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the house felt exactly as described—welcoming, beautifully appointed, and thoughtfully prepared. As an owner on a similar peer-to-peer rental platform, I know how much the details matter. Chris has clearly poured real care into the home, and it shows in every part of this amazing getaway. The lake proximity, well-equipped kitchen, massive dock, luxurious seating and bedding, and unforgettable views all came together to make our stay feel easy, comfortable, and truly memorable. This is exactly how vacation rentals should feel. The Mountain Laurel Retreat has set a very high standard for any property we may consider booking in the future and we look forward to an encore visit. Many thanks, Chris, for such a wonderful stay!
We had a great stay. The house is very clean and recently remodeled. Beautiful view of the lake with a great dock. The owner was both very nice and extremely responsive. We would look forward to staying here again.

We enjoyed having you stay at our lake home and it was a pleasure speaking with you.

We really enjoyed our week at this house. It was perfect for our family of five. The home was very clean and had all the needed items and the kitchen was also very well stocked. The view was absolutely beautiful from the house. Location was also good. Not far at all from the towns of Franklin and Andrews and an easy drive to Nantahala Outdoor Center.

Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the Lakehouse, hope you stay with us again.
My husband and I came to the area for a wedding which was close by. The house has the most gorgeous view of the lake! The remodel is well done and the house is cozy and comfortable in the heart of the natural environment with woods and exotic flowers. It's so quiet! Wifi worked well in the house. Chris, is an exceptional host. He always answered questions and gave great, detailed instructions on arrival and things to do in the area. A great choice if you're heading to this area.
This is a beautiful and newly remodeled home right on Nantahala Lake. Even though it's remodeled it still has a cabin/country feel with the decor, and gas fireplace. With us being from a larger city we definitely enjoyed the peace and quiet here. It was very refreshing. Being on the lake with 3 kayaks provided is also an awesome bonus! Just be sure to stop at the store on the way in, as the nearest larger store is about 30 minutes away. Chris was awesome to book with, and made the check in very easy for us. He provides all the info you need for check in, and is very responsive to questions and concerns. We will definitely be back!
Cabin location was just right for our family. Views were beautiful and kitchen was equipped with everything. Couldn’t get the fireplace to work but everything else was wonderful! Highly recommend.
What a nice spot to disconnect and get away. Great views all through GSMNP and Nantahala National Forest. We luckily timed the peak fall colors perfectly. Cold in the mountains this time of year, but despite the crisp weather we still had a great time.
The cabin has a warm and cozy feel with a great porch for enjoying the elevated views over the lake. Very close to the Lake's End Cafe and Marina. Crossing Wayah Rd to the dock is not a problem as traffic is always minimal. Had a great stay
Almost don’t want to let others know so I can keep dates open for myself! Awesome property, cozy- decorated nice ( not just odds and ends thrown in there) master bedroom bed is SO comfortable. Easy access to kayaks and dock although you do have to walk down stairs ( maybe not ideal for some) . The dock is so peaceful and really the pictures don’t depict the calmness that you feel when sitting out there. We even sat out in a rain shower just to really be able to enjoy the serenity. Hosts were very accommodating and easy to communicate with ( even for minor questions) …. We will definitely be back.
We had a great time! Check in/out was on easy and everything was as pictured on VRBO. The Lake house and dock was perfect for our family of four and the views of Lake Nantahala from the house and deck were amazing. Boating on the lake gave us the opportunity to explore and appreciate how beautiful the entire area really is. The home was recently updated and has a beautiful new kitchen and appliances even 2 coffee makers. Most nights we grilled on the deck and enjoyed the sunset views on the dock. The home had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Thank you to our host, Chris, we had a WONDERFUL time!!
A great place to beat the summer heat! We enjoyed our stay at this house. Location to the lake was great.. We got in the lake everyday. Cooked all our meals in the kitchen and my kids even made me a birthday cake from scratch! Spent a day visiting Murphy and Franklin. River walk in Murphy was worth the trip. Went to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest too, this was a nice day trip. I would say the stairs were kind of steep going up to the house, you cannot tell this from the pictures , upstairs in the house and down to the dock. I had considered bringing my dad who is in his 70’s and was glad it did not workout he would have had trouble with these. We were fine with them but just a note of caution. Also the loft and basement room I thought were accessible from inside the house as well as had its own entrance but it is only accessible from its own entrance door from outside the house. I private area for an extra guest but we though one of our kids could stay here but we’re not comfortable with them not having direct access to the interior of the house with our having to go outside and upstairs to the deck then in the main entrance. Would be great for privacy if you had extra person with you that wanted that.
We absolutely loved every minute of our stay here. The cabin was so warm, inviting and comfortable. Super convenient for day trips to nearby towns and hikes. Would definitely stay here again! Chris was easy to communicate with and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. Very responsive host!
We had a great time. View is amazing and having access to kayaks is an added bonus. Great place to stay if you’re looking for a quiet place on the lake.
This was an excellent experience, from the property itself to the management process. The lake was so beautiful, the house was Lake decor perfect, and working with Chris to book it was so easy. The check in/out instructions were very clear. I would recommend buying floats for the lake before arriving. The nearest grocery store in Andrews is 30 minutes away, and the nearest Walmart to buy floats was in Murphy which was 40 minutes away. Once you have groceries, you will not want to leave the property. We will be returning! :-)
I have long thought that the southwestern portion of North Carolina was incredibly beautiful, but I was unprepared at house gorgeous the view was from this house.

Communication was fluent and owner was very responsive throughout the process. The property was perfect for our family- enjoyed fishing, kayaking and hiking near by. Brought all food for the four days, thankfully, as you are somewhat secluded.. Note the marina restaurant is not open on Monday’s. Scenery is perfect and everything we could ever want or need was there. We loved our stay!

About the host
Hosted by Chris Midgette
Hello! We are Chris and Taylor. We are from the Raleigh area of North Carolina. Chris works as a First Responder and Taylor as a Nurse. We spend most of our time loving and raising our two small children. We are in the thick of life and loving every minute. We recognize the importance of getting away, enjoying life and hope that our home is somewhere that others can enjoy just as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
This home has a true "getaway" feel. It is a lake front home with dock access and amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains. There is a ton of amazing trails near the property and lots of hidden gems to explore. Even to this day, we always find a new adventure when we go. It also doesn't hurt that one of our neighbors is the endangered Bald Eagle.
