Large house with character

We had an excellent stay at Villa Maxima. The location is good - the neighbourhood is quiet and it is possible to walk to Praia das Macas from the house. The house is very large, in total we were 11 guests and did not have to use a couple of the bedrooms. The house has a nice traditional character. The kitchen has recently been upgraded - it is large and well equipped. The pool area is excellent, though the outside grill is somewhat disappointing, located away from the house and in need of some upgrade. We did have an issue with a sprinkler creating a large muddy area just outside the garden door exit. We asked for it to be sorted twice and while the property manager promised ask the gardener to sort, nothing happened. Not a major issue, but it should have been a simple fix to avoid us having to jump in and out of the house. The property manager was otherwise very helpful. What would make this five stars? A bit of view and closer to the beach - nothing not known at the time of booking.

Slidt hus

Huset har en god beliggenhed og god indretning. Derudover har det nogle super gode ude-arealer hvor især poolen trækker op. Men selve huset er slidt og trænger virkelig til en kærlig hånd. Flere steder er der skimmelsvamp på væggene og huset virker koldt og fugtigt på trods af at vi var der i slutningen af maj. Derudover var der brusere og kogeplader der ikke virkede.

An excellent villa located very close to the beach and some very good restaurants. There were 17 of us, including 9 grandchildren who had the time of their lives!! The only downside was the size of the kitchen, although Paulo, the agent, said the kitchen areas were being upgraded later this year. Would recommend this villa to any large family with kids.

Perfect for 18 persons

We where four families with adults and teenagers and we stayed for a week in June The property is perfect with enough bed- and bathrooms and a lot of space. Our time by the pool area was excellent and the pool was nice and clean. We had almost all dinners together in the evenings and used the barbecue and the a bit tiny kitchen to prepere our meals. We had a lovely stay and would recommend this house and area to our friends

Geräumiges Haus für viele Leute, mit ansprechendem Garten, aber auch mit kleinen Mängeln.

Wir waren mit 10 Erwachsenen und 5 Kindern für eine Woche hier, unsere komplette Familie. Durch die vielen Schlafzimmer und Bäder wurde es in diesen Bereichen nie zu eng. Das große Wohnzimmer mit dem riesigen Tisch war unser Gemeinschaftsraum und wurde morgens und abends ausgiebig genutzt. Das große und garten- ähnlich gepflegte Grundstück wurde nur hin und wieder genutzt, denn das schöne Wetter (im Dezember!) lud häufig zum Strandbesuch ein. Das Poolwasser war natürlich schon zu kalt in dieser Zeit. Minuspunkte vergeben wir für 3 Details: 1) Die Heizungsanlage war schlecht entlüftet. Das führte zu teilweise lauten Ventilgeräuschen in der Nacht. Man musste dann den entsprechenden Heizkörper finden und das Ventil zudrehen. 2) Wie im südeurpäischen Bereichen nicht unüblich, ist die Bausubstanz von Mauerwerk und Fenstern schlecht bis gar nicht isoliert. Das führt zu einem häufig feucht- kaltem Raumklima, zu sehen auch an etlichen Stellen an den Außenwänden. Häufiges Lüften und hochgedrehte Heizung hilft ein wenig, aber nur begrenzt. 3) Die Küchen- Einrichtung ist dagegen nur durchschnittlich. Zwar sind fast alle Geräte sowie Besteck und Geschirr vorhanden und funktionsbereit, aber es herrschen ganz schlechte Lichtverhältnisse, und es ist eng. Eine ambitionierte und abwechslungsreiche Mahlzeit für so viele Leute zu bereiten ist kaum möglich. Bei einigen Küchenbereichen ist Modernisierungsbedarf angesagt.

Great place for a families!

This place has enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate a lot of people comfortably. The bathrooms seem recently renovated and are nice. The rest of the place has an older feel as it clearly belonged to a family for many years. There are books galore! The pool is great and the kids loved it. We liked the fact that the living areas and the sleeping areas can be closed-off from one another so if anyone in the group woke up early, they wouldn't wake up the others. In terms of an area, the small Praia das Macas town and beach are nice. The water is cold and all of the beaches up and down the nearby coast are windy. There is no wind and it is a bit warmer on the beaches in Cascais, but more touristy. Retaurants in Praia das Macas were really good, especially Buzio. This place worked perfectly for us after a few days in Lisbon.

Ett stort och rymligt hus, perfekt för oss som var 12 personer.

Det var ett par badrum som var rätt ofräscha, som skulle behöva en upprustning och i köket saknades grytor och kastruller till induktionshällen som därmed inte gick att använda och den stora gasplattan som var för sig själv fungerade heller inte men för övrigt var det väldigt välutrustat med allt man behöver i köket. Ett plus skulle vara att man utrustade huset med lite plastglas för utomhusbruk vid poolen. En fantastiskt fin trädgård och uteplatser. Totalt sätt är vi jättenöjda, tyvärr var väl inte vädret inte det bästa men det fanns ju ett härligt och stort vardagsrum med matplats att vistas i.

Beautiful spacious property

We had a great stay here. The rooms are a good size, the grounds and pool and lovely, and the location is perfect for people who want some seclusion but be close enough to walk to a village. Only slight complaint is that the kitchen doesn't have a lot of worksurfaces which makes cooking for a lot of people a bit of a challenge. But overall this is a really lovely villa and I would highly recommend it.

Villa Maxima is very suitable for a larger group, we were 11 adults , perfect for us , and we had a wonderful stay there. Mostly we were VERY pleased about the house, don't forget that when you read on! The villa is big and a bit difficult to find your way in, spacy areas and with sitting groups different places indoors as well as outdoors. Well kept garden mostly, VERY nice pool area, the water clean and fresh. The rooms are nice, the double beds a bit narrow , and unfortunately mould in one of the 5/ 6 bathrooms.In the kitchen you find what you need , but it is quite small when 11 people want to take their share of the kitchen duties or want to prepare their breakfast to bring out in the garden. The sink got clogged many times, and we had to repair it. Be prepared not to flush paper down the toilets, but this goes for most of Portugal. There are shelves full of books ( a library actually) many about art, art lovers own this house , pictures on the walls and art in the garden. We decided on not renting cars, we walked to the nearby areas ( Praia Grande, Praia Maças, Azenhas, Colares) , took the tram / bus to Sintra and the train from Sintra Lisbon. 15 minutes walk to nearest shop, very nice morning exercise. The twin brothers in the shop are very helpful. What we really would have liked was a book/ folder with useful information ; ( transport/ time tables/ taxi number, shops/ mercado( where to find them/ opening hours), recommended restaurants ( like Central in Colares and Buzio in Maças), a bit of history / anecdotes, what to see f.ex. in Sintra, where to deliver tha garbage, house rules/what to do/ remember before leaving the house.) We think you will enjoy renting this villa, as we did.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

The villa is situated 10 km from Sintra, and 20 km from the cosmopolitan Cascais, with its marina, entertainment, shopping, beaches, restaurants, coffee shops, delightful terraces by the sea, not to mention the buzz of a very active nightlife. Estoril, that has the biggest casino in Europe, is only 19.5 km away. Lisbon, the capital with its cosmopolitan atmosphere, monuments, restaurants and Fado, is only 40 min. away. Guincho, with its surrounding natural park is highly recommended for beach & sport holidays. But along the coast the choice of other beaches is endless. Guincho is famous for water sport activities, white sandy family beaches, all within a 20 min drive. The bus stop is just 900 m away from the villa (Sintra and Cascais) and the railway station is 10 km away.

For golfers, there are 6 golf courses, 20 minutes away:

1) Quinta da Marinha
Set amongst beautiful pine trees and stretching down to Guincho beach, it has some of the most majestic sceneries in Portugal. Its hole number 13, a Par 4 descending to the sea, is a picture postcard of Portuguese golf.
2) Oitavos
It's the 1st Golf Course in Europe and the 2nd in the World to become a Certified Signature Sanctuary - Gold.
3) Penha Longa
Enjoys championship characteristics, an excellent level of maintenance and beautiful panoramic views over the Sintra mountain range.
4) Estoril
One of the oldest and best-known golf courses in Portugal. Many champions - including Max Faulkner and Seve Ballesteros - have walked the fairways of this course.
5) Quinta da Beloura
Fine views over the Sintra mountain range and a course surrounded by trees provide a very pleasurable game of golf.
6) Belas
Designed by Rocky Roquemore. Its eighteen holes extend over 6,128 metres for a Par 72.
