House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Spend your vacation living in close harmony with nature in this beautiful octagonal oceanfront home. The home offers two nicely decorated bedrooms - each with its own private bathroom. There is one very large bedroom upstairs and one downstairs for complete privacy. The upstairs also has a walk in closet with a sink and small refrigerator. The kitchen has a lovely bar to the patio.
The upstairs bedroom is huge, more like a studio apartment than just a bedroom. With screened windows all around, you will feel you are living among the trees. This bedroom has its own mini-kitchen, refrigerator, full bathroom, and a safe for valuables. In addition to the queen bed, this room also has a convertible sofa bed (with two real single mattresses) that can sleep two more. In this room you will awake to gorgeous sunrises over the ocean, perhaps with howler monkeys in the trees outside.
The downstairs bedroom is conveniently located at ground level for those who may prefer to avoid stairs. The windows are screened to allow all the ocean breezes to flow right through. Wake up and step outside to the covered patio, where you will enjoy your morning coffee with a peaceful view of the ocean just steps away! The entire home is set like a jewel in a dramatic rock formation on the edge of the ocean. Iguanas sun themselves amid the tropical plantings, and monkeys often can be seen in the trees.
The home is located in a private, quiet area with only three other homes nearby. Stroll down the road to find a sparkling river that empties into the ocean. Before that a lovely 8 foot waterfall cascades into a clean, fresh-water swimming lagoon with a rope-swing for the kids. Kids of all ages will also love exploring the tide pools among the rock formations.
Of course, there is also a beautiful sandy beach for those who prefer sunbathing, snorkeling, or ocean swimming. Good news for fishing enthusiasts, this is one of the best fishing spots around, so bring your gear! We do provide basic fishing reels. Do you prefer surfing? A quick 5-minute walk from the house will take you to the Los Cedros surf break (boards may be rented in town).
One of the best attributes of this rental is that you can avoid the expense of a rental car because the local shuttle bus runs close by the house. And if you like, it is a easy 20 minute walk to Montezuma. Catch the bus in one direction to get to Montezuma with its shops, restaurants, and nightlife. In the other direction you will find the small sleepy village of Cabuya, and the world-famous Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Preserve. Whether you prefer wildlife viewing or snorkeling, surfing or fishing, nightlife or peace and quiet, Las Rocas truly offers something for everyone. When you close your eyes and picture your perfect vacation, Las Rocas has what you dream about.

Fabulous place on the water
We stayed with our two teenagers at Las Rocas for four nights in March 2018 and had a fabulous time. We much prefer staying in a house rather than a hotel amidst all the hustle and bustle. This is a great place for nature lovers, right on the beach, with great rock pools, a sand beach, iguanas and squirrels in the trees. If you don't see capuchin and howler monkeys on the property, you will see them with a short walk. You can hike up to nearby waterfalls. We walked in the water and enjoyed being "cleaned" by freshwater shrimp (they look a lot like crayfish), some of them electric blue. A real treat was the bare-throated tiger-heron that perched in a tree out back, along with a yellow-headed caracara. Close by is the Cabo Blanco preserve with its many kilometers of trails, where we saw a tamandua (an anteater), agouti, squirrels, white-tailed deer with fawn, coati, howler and capuchin monkeys, and dozens of species of birds. Montezuma has decent restaurants; we ate at nearby Las Palmeras twice and recommend it. Even when it's hot you can stay relatively cool by using the ceiling and floor fans or by lying in one of several hammocks outside. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
A really special place!
We spent two weeks in this fantastic house and are already talking about returning. It is like living in a tree house, very open and comfortable with the constant sound of the ocean and occasional howler monkeys - otherwise very quiet and peaceful. There were three days when we never left the property except to buy fish from a place down the road. The tide pools in front of the house are amazing and change with every tide. Since we have rejoined the real world, we only need to look at our photos to bring back at least part of the totally relaxing, happy aura of Las Rocas.
Leanne and Ron are terrific caretakers and sources of information and assistance, but never intrusive...ask them about the gin bottle!
Oceanfront retreat. Serenity, sunsets and solitude
This property is the perfect oceanfront retreat, yet easily accessible to the wonderful village of Montezuma. The compound is large and private, the monkeys and iguanas provide endless jungle entertainment. The evenings are so simple and magical, listening to the waves, enjoying quiet time with friends or family on the terrace, and watching awe inspiring tropical storms from the terrace or upstairs bedroom. It is a place to get back in touch with nature, and yourself. It has a well equipped kitchen and games, cards etc. which we enjoyed together in the evenings. We highly recommend the restaurant called "Cocolores" in Montezuma. The Italian cuisine was the very best I've encountered and rivals anything I've had in Florence, Rome or Naples! We brought several of their entrees and side dishes home each eve to enjoy on the peaceful terrace here at Las Rocas. The owners, Tad and Jana were very helpful, as was the property manager, Leanne and her husband, providing lots of information about the local area, the beaches and good hikes. We loved the canopy zip line over Montezuma Waterfalls.
If you are looking for a magical, natural setting, and enjoy privacy, ocean, and simplicity, this is your place.
Idyllic location and wonderful experience
We were excited to find this property and were even more impressed when we arrived. Warmly greeted by Leanne, upon arriving in Montezuma, we were shown around the town and then to the property near by. Beyond the delightful accommodations, the property has it's own private beach and tide pools, as well as various quiet places to melt into a hammock with the ocean steps away. Several times we walked from this property on quiet roads to one of the best bathing beaches I've experienced (5 minutes if you walk slowly). On other excursions we walked to a waterfall and hiked up into an area with exotic birds and other wildlife, an easy 10 minute walk away. Having two wildlife biologists with us we chose walking places like Cabuya, a tiny town nearby, so to see the many varieties of birds (and monkeys). And, sunrise! Wow!! I got up every morning to watch that amazing show.
So, if you like the beauty of nature and you really want a treat, this is it.
Las Rocas was amazing!! My family stayed for a week...not long enough! Booking was easy and safe. This property is perfectly located. Very secluded, yet close enough to Montezuma and other towns to get supplies, go out to eat/drink, etc. The house was very clean and well stocked with linens, etc. The property manager, Leeanne, was friendly and super helpful. She is very familiar with the roads, local businesses, etc. She was very accessible by phone or/and email and addressed our needs/questions in a very timely manner. We can't wait to return to Las Rocas....next time we will stay longer!!!
Exceeded expectations in so many ways
We were fortunate enough to book Casa Las Rocas pretty close to our departure. I say fortunate because as soon as we saw the pictures, we knew this was where we had to stay, and it just so happened to be available for our dates.
Needless to say, the property did not disappoint and in fact blew away our expectations. Leanne and Ron are about the nicest people we have ever met. Their stories kept us fascinated and entertained to the point that we wish we could have spent the whole time with them!
Working with Tad to get the reservation was a breeze and he had no issue accommodating us for an extra night when we decided we just could not leave yet.
There are so many activities nearby that we never even really felt the need to leave and had to force ourselves to explore further than the immediate area. The sunrises were breathtaking and the waterfalls were equally inspiring.
Montezuma and the surrounding villages have such a charm about them. We met so many wonderful and generous characters along the way. I can easily say this was the best vacation of my life and this is in no small part due to the perfect accommodations we had.
One tip I would give to future travelers however is to consider your transportation. We thought having a car might be a hassle but it would have actually extended our range and we might have explored a bit further if we had a vehicle. Getting a cab at night was also a bit of a gamble so next time we will most likely have our own transportation.
The only problem I have with Casa Las Rocas is that it makes me not want to travel anywhere else! I can't imagine finding a better and more serene setting to spend some time with close friends and family.
Thank you to everyone that was a part of this unforgettable journey. We deeply appreciate this experience and it has enriched our lives.
Waterfalls, Close to Cabo Blanco Nature Preserve, Montezuma Nightlife, River with Rope Swing for kids, Great place for fishing.
