About JACQUELINE MORA
I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1974, my family is from the Guanacaste area. I was very lucky growing up in both places, the beach and the city. My husband Rick Ruhlow is from Long Beach, California and he came to Costa Rica on vacation to visit his retired parents and while on vacation he fell in love with the country and decided to make it his home as well. We have been in the rental business for the last 13 years to provide lodging services for our Sport-fishing clientele in Playa Carrillo/Playa Samara area. We have a son and a daughter that go to school in San Jose and they both come home on the weekends and spend all their holidays here with us! We've had the Sportfishing Operation for the last 20 years in Playa Carrillo. Please visit our website of Kingfisher Sportfishing in Playa Carrillo We love doing yoga at the beach, surfing, fishing, hiking, traveling, playing music, we enjoy good wine, cooking, baking, mountain biking, ocean kayaking. We absolute LOVE living here in Playa Carrillo! It has been a blessing to have found this little place in Paradise. Amazing place to stay!
I booked my stay based off of the great reviews of this property, and the great TripAdvisor reviews of Jackie and Rick who also run Kingfisher Sportfishing. I was looking for a place to celebrate my 40th birthday with 4 buddies and wanted to find some great Marlin fishing as well as a beautiful place to stay in Costa Rica. I had never traveled to Costa Rica but overall the reviews of the country were very high, and after careful research, I settled on Villa Oasis as the place to stay, and Kingfisher Sportfighing to find us some fish!
All of my buddies thought the pictures of Villa Oasis looked amazing, but I was still slightly afraid that we would show up and find out we had been tricked, as it was out of the country and I had to trust online reviews. Instead, we showed up and were immediately sure we had made the right choice! The property was exactly what we were hoping for, the pool and outdoor bar were awesome, the kitchen was perfect for cooking, and the sleeping accommodations were great. There were plenty of clean beds, and 3 of the rooms had big bathrooms with walk in showers.
Several reviews I read during my research spoke of the high level of service and friendliness of Jackie, Rick and their staff, and we definitely experienced that. Throughout our stay Jackie made many reservations and called cabs for us, and gave us multiple recommendations on restaurants to try, and places to explore. Her advice was spot on, and the Argentinian steak house El Colibri just up the street was our favorite place to eat, as well as La Garta in Samara. There were several other places within walking distance to try, but we enjoyed those places so much it was hard to branch out. One of my favorite parts of the trip were the awesome breakfasts Mirta made every morning on the back porch, listening to the birds and howler monkeys in the jungle, with a nice breeze blowing, while drinking good coffee.
Jackie was incredibly thoughtful and she and Rick even surprised us one evening with an amazing birthday cake, and my 40th birthday trip could not have been any better. I will definitely be returning here in the future, and I wholeheartedly recommend the Villa Oasis to anyone considering staying here.
Fantastic as Always
I've been coming to Playa Carillo and staying at the Villa for 16 years now, and that should be proof enough that Jackie, Rick and Villa Oasis top notch!
Daniel from Pura Vibra transfers and tours picked us up at the air port in Liberia for the 2 hr drive to Carillo. Ice cold beer was the ticket and before we knew it, we were riding along the beach in Playa Carillo.
My trip down this year was aimed at getting away from the cold North East, and fishing for 5 days on the Kingfisher. I really didn't care what we caught. Spending time on the water with good friends, cold beer, and of course hoping for Orlando's famous fresh Cerviche, if we were lucky enough to get any Dorado. In the 5 days, we caught a bunch of Dorado, a couple Marlin, a sailfish, and we did our good deed by releasing 2 turtles caught up in some fishing line. The highlight was catching my first Black Marlin. Just a note, my first Blue marlin and My first Striped Marlin were both caught on the Kingifisher as well! That tells a lot about the Captain and crew.
Breakfast was outstanding. The fresh eggs, gallo pinto, french toast, pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit, and of course, the COFFEE!!!
Each night we would come back to the Villa for a refreshing dip in the pool before heading out for dinner. El Colibri is one of our favorites, and is within walking distance of the Villa. Great appetizers, steaks that melt in your mouth, all cooked over an open flame. They even grilled some of the Dorado we caught! We also made it into Samara for dinner one night at LaGarto (love the shrimp/mussles in white wine/garlic sauce)!
Prior to our flight home, we took a tour of the Ara Project. The project is releasing Scarlet and Green Macaws into the wild from captive breading pairs. Well worth the $20 donation, to see these magnificent birds flying free. If you keep your eyes open, you may see them in the wild Almond Trees on the beach road in Carillo!
Well, we are back home now, and already planning our trip next year. I have been instructed by my family, that they will be joining me again. This place has always been their favorite vacation spot!
Thanks to Rick and Jackie for hospitality, again, it's second to none!
Big house, great location
The home was as described and A/C worked well in all the bedrooms. The morning staff made us an excellent breakfast each morning and were helpful. An easy 15 minute walk to the beach, and a number of restaurants within 5-10 minutes. We didn't like the Jungle place, and would suggest others avoid it. A very pleasant stay.
Beautiful home and property in lovely location close to gorgeous sandy beach
Playa Carrillo was one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen. Gentle rolling waves and warm water make for very pleasant swimming. The 5K stretch of sand is a great walking beach, and it was generally very quiet and uncrowded while we were there (Early January). You can rent lounge chairs and shade coverage from a vendor on the beach. The beach is ~15 min walk from the house, a little faster downhill on the way there and uphill back. We also went to Playa Samara which was also very nice, not quite as beautiful as Carrillo, but with more restaurants, activities, and shops along the beach.
The house itself is spacious and comfortable. Very beautiful property with lots of plants and trees and a lovely pool. The property is fenced in with a locked gate and seems very secure. There was a safe in the master closet for our use. The bedrooms each had individual air conditioning units, which is nice because it can be warm overnight for sleeping. The housekeepers came in every day and cleaned and made us coffee and breakfast, which was delicious. We ate breakfast out on the porch and spent time out there relaxing and reading.
Jackie was an amazing hostess, very gracious, friendly, and helpful. She met us the first evening there to go over details and recommendations for activities, and then arranged a couple activities for us. We did the kayaking at River Ora, which was very enjoyable, in a beautiful relaxing environment. We saw some beautiful birds, plants, and trees in the mangroves, and plenty of monkeys. We also spent one morning ziplining, and really enjoyed getting out into the hills and trees for that.
We ate at several restaurants in Carrillo and Samara, with great steak at the Argentinian restaurant up the block from the house, and great seafood at another local spot (Delfino) within walking distance. We also went over to the Nammbu hotel for drinks and dinner (walking distance) while watching beautiful sunset from their view overlooking the sea. If you're thinking about visiting Playa Carrillo or Samara, I highly recommend this property.
Rick and Jacqui are the best. They were so kind and hospitable. Very nice, comfortable, clean residence that is close to town but not right in town. Wonderful jungle sounds and privacy. Clean, big pool. Fantastic housekeeper Jessica who works really hard and makes a great breakfast. Great value in our minds. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. We fished with Rick for a day offshore and had a great time with the highlight being able to land a blue marlin in the afternoon. It was so nice to have an English speaking captain who was willing to explain everything that was going on. Would highly recommend staying and fishing with Rick and Jacqui.
