The Master Suite is apartment sized, featuring 2 separate sleeping areas with queen beds, though only 1 bathroom, inside the master bedroom. Off the master bedroom: a big outdoor private deck overlooking the river.
The spacious sitting room in this suite has a queen bed, two sleepable sofas, and fireplace (electric). Also: TV, DVD player, fridge, microwave, cofffeemaker, wireless internet connection, Vonage phone with free U.S. long distance.
All guests have access to Rio’s amazing river beach. Pull up a beach chair and enjoy the view up the Kaweah River toward nearby Sequoia National Park -- home to the giant sequoias, the biggest living things on the planet!
Outdoor adventures include whitewater rafting, hiking, picnicking and bird watching.
As a TV producer, I helped launch “America’s Most Wanted” and executive-produced “Strange Universe” in daily syndication (which is how my nickname “Mars” came to stick).
By the turn of the 21st century, I knew a lot about life and work in the fast lane of Los Angeles... and I was burned out. I longed for a life close to Nature. No more Starbucks. No more parking meters. No more 405 Freeway.
I headed north, to the land of Big Trees, Big Water, Big Starry Night Skies. Here, in California’s Central Valley, I found a sanctuary suitable for restoring my Spirit — and sharing with others who also might long for a taste of pristine Nature — for a weekend, a week, or longer.
Years later, there’s still nothing like the inspiring sound and sight of the water thundering over Rio’s gigantic river rocks, awakening the consciousness of anyone lucky enough to stand on this river bank and witness a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle of Nature that will never come again.
Thus Rio’s motto: “We Are the River.”
Margaret Roberts purchased this hotel in 2005
Rio Sierra Riverhouse is a guesthouse situated on the banks of the Kaweah River, just 6 miles from the gate to Sequoia National Park. People make pilgrimages here from all over the world. To my astonishment, in my first season at Rio, more than half my guests were citizens of other countries. They came to witness the biggest living things on the planet: the giant sequoia trees.
Our tiny village of Three Rivers, California, is the gateway community to the sequoias, the place most visitors lodge during their exploration of Sequoia National Park.
Sequoia National Park is one of the more peaceful of America’s National Parks, not so crowded or commercial as Yosemite or the Grand Canyon, but still full of wondrous discoveries. As the seasons turn, visitors come here to hike, fish, bike, cross-country ski, bird-watch, and explore the Crystal Cave.
Of all these adventures, for me, one stands as unique. I call this 'Seeing the Bear,' an almost mystical pursuit by so many visitors, who hope for, or maybe fear, a close encounter with these huge, wild creatures that make their home among the sequoias. At any moment, a bear might appear in the midst of tourists on the park’s mountainside.
Like the sequoias themselves, the bears present almost fantastical living proof that giants really do exist in the world.
Beautiful home right by the river. Felt totally comfortable and cared for. Loved the added touch of s'mores around a campfire in the evening! There are four apartments within the one house.
I took my family for a one night trip that turned into two nights. The Rio is exactly what I needed to get away from the city and relax for a couple days! There was even wifi, where I can read emails throughout but the river and private area of the beach (my kids called it) it was fabulous. Mars and staff was great! Jason was super cool guy. We really enjoyed our stay! They even had smores for the kids! Many Thanks! I truly recommend this stay! I could sit by the river and do nothing all day :-)
Thank you Mars for the nice and friendly hospitality at the beautiful Rio Riverhouse! We wish we could stay longer to enjoy the beauty of the nicely accommodated settings you have offered and three river city. We had a blast time there enjoying the park, river and the local dining! Will definitely be back some time with family :-)
Friendly, welcoming and accommodating owner and staff. Wish we had more time to enjoy dipping into the river, soaking up some sun and cocktails. This was a quick stay for our family of 5 as we finished with a one day hike at Sequoia NP after Yosemite.
The suite in the main building is beautiful and had everything we could have wanted for comfort. The backyard patios and porches overlooking the river are the places to hang out so don't be fooled by the street side approach.
