About this property

HISTORIC FARMHOUSE ON 400 ACRE RANCH

Come experience something unique and magical in our turn-of-the-century remodeled farm house. This rustic home is nestled within a 400 acre secluded ranch located just over the mountain from the City of San Luis Obispo.

Allow yourself to travel back in time while you enjoy this 2 bedroom 1 bath 1000 square foot home that comfortably sleeps 4 guests in its king and queen sized beds. The newly remodeled kitchen with its granite counter-tops and modern appliances is fully equipped to prepare delicious meals. The flagstone patio with its propane grill and wood-burning Santa Maria style bbq makes a wonderful setting for enjoying a traditional Central Coast home-cooked tri-tip steak with all the fixings. Guests can relax on the patio or wrap-around porch, sip local wines and beers while watching hawks and vultures circling overhead, deer grazing on the nearby hillsides and wild turkeys foraging in the adjacent fields. Savor the fresh country air and revel in the sound of silence.

Guests are invited to bring their hiking boots, binoculars and perhaps mountain bikes. The ranch is almost wholly surrounded by Cal Poly State University property with its extensive network of trails where one can literally explore for miles.

Whether you are visiting the Central Coast to sample its world-famous wines and restaurants, to explore its pristine coastline, or simply to relax and unwind, you'll be glad that you decided to make this rustic home your headquarters. It is truly a hidden jewel.

Beautiful location
Stayed here with my husband and our two dogs. The property was beautiful. House was comfortable. Kitchen was updated and spacious. Saw deer roaming around the house everyday. The dogs enjoyed going for walks around the house and going to the creek that was close by. Would recommend if your looking for a private place to relax.

A little piece of heaven
I hesitate to write this review because I don’t want everyone knowing about this place so it is available when we want to go back. Ha! We stayed here when we moved our daughter in to Cal Poly. It is so peaceful and quiet. What a refuge!! The beds were super comfortable and the outdoor area was great. We enjoyed the passing cows and did t want to leave. We hope to return soon! Thank you!

Such a special place!
Loved our time in the little red house. Perfect for three of us - couple and adult daughter - plus our dogs. Very close to SLO yet out in the wilderness. Deer, turkeys, coyotes (heard not seen), and an abundance of squirrels! Hope to return here.

About the host

Host profile image
Our family has lived in SLO since the mid-1950's and we purchased this ranch in the early 1970's. This house, which we affectionately refer to as "the red house" was build in the 1890's by the family that settled here to farm and raise cattle. Since then, several other families have called it their home. We decided to upgrade the house and and offer it as a vacation rental because the ranch is such a special place that we knew people would love. Our prediction seems to have come true.

Why they chose this property

The ranch is uniquely situated just over the mountain from the City of San Luis Obispo, so guests can easily drive there to enjoy its many amenities. But the lack of nearby neighbors make it seem like the ranch is far removed from civilization.
