Amazing island getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four loved spending Thanksgiving at the Olga House. Paul and Leslee were extremely accommodating, especially working around a busy ferry schedule during the holiday weekend. The house was very clean and organized in such a way where some of us could watch a movie and others could play board games. It served as an excellent home base as we went for runs, hikes and into Eastsound for meals or shopping. It was a great experience we would gladly repeat.

Enjoy Orcas Island in Comfort (w/o the Property Taxes!)

  • 5 of 5

Olga House is a well maintained home and very comfy to live in: we loved it! We were there for 8 nights and we easily could have stayed longer - much longer! :-) The house is just up the street from the Olga public access pier which is fun to walk out on. Later in the day you can sometimes watch the wind rip through the sound while staying in the lee as it's in a little cove. Orcas Island is super cool to visit - lots of interesting parks; if you're staying 3 days or more just buy the $30 30-day Discovery Pass as you ARE going to use it. One of our favorites is the lookout tower on Mount Constitution as it's QUITE the view! Olga Island is the largest of the San Juan Islands - it even has farm land (what can I say - this surprised me!) One of our favorite restaurants is the artist co-op called Catkin and it's just on the corner of Olga Road and Point Lawrence - you can easily walk to it from the house: everything on their menu is wonderful and the artist gallery is a beautiful space. Do you (or someone you're traveling with) like beer? Then check out the Island Hopping Brewery for a taste treat.

Here's an unusual thing to mention: I love the tap water at Olga House! Seriously, I had a chance to talk with one of the gents that upgraded the Olga water system many years ago. They get their water from one of the mountain lakes and use a forced sand filtration system and a minimal amount of chlorination. The result is some of the best water around. FYI: I used to work in industrial control for water treatment plants so I know what I'm talking about here. So, leave the bottled water at home.

Also, there is high speed internet and a VOIP phone that allows free calling anywhere in the USA! There's cable TV and a drawer full of DVDs, too. There are also a lot (and I mean A LOT) of little deer on the island. They aren't particularly afraid of people either!

Dealing with the owners was a real pleasure, too. Both are great people and totally honest and up-front! They also have some very good suggestions on where to eat, in fact we used their suggestion and had our 25th anniversary dinner at the Inn At Ship Bay: amazingly good! But you MUST make reservations to get a table.

What are you waiting for? Book this place!

We really enjoyed our time on Orcas. The home was comfortable, clean and relaxing. The weather was great so we enjoyed using the outdoor grill and deck in the evenings. You can't miss with this place!

Beautifully appointed and very peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

Well, first and foremost, Leslee & Paul- THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for letting us stay at your beautiful island home. The biggest complaint I have is wishing we could have spent more time there. The peaceful quietness, (Trust me- it was well needed!) the accommodations, and the condition of the overall experience for my wife and I was beyond epic proportions! The place looks brand new, very well decorated, incredibly clean and QUITE! Loved waking up to the black-tails and kayaking the islands. (34 miles total). Overall the experience we had was incredible, could not have asked for more THSNK YOU

And we will be booking another trip here too!

Wonderful Getaway on Orcas Island

  • 5 of 5

This lovely property sits about a block from the bay in the quiet little village of Olga. The home is very comfortable and well appointed with all the necessities to make the experience feel relaxing and restful. We traveled with another couple and spent a lot of time sitting around the dining table and in the living room visiting, knitting and solving all the world's problems. We enjoyed the short walk to the pier to watch the boats, read in the sun, and gaze at the multitude of stars at night. Further down the highway on the way to Doe Bay is a wonderful art gallery, a place to buy fresh clams which became a nice meal of linguine and clam sauce. Doe Bay has a nice cafe, too. Up the way toward Eastsound is Moran State Park which has numerous trails. Eastsound is also a delightful village to poke into cute shops and catch a delicious bite to eat. Our stay couldn't have been better, and the comfort and convenience of this place made it all the more delightful.
