House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)
Part of a lovely organic farm along the Chama River in Medanales, neighboring Abiquiu. The casita sleeps two comfortably in the bedroom with queen size bed and can accomodate an additional child or adult in the loft. The cozy casita has a small living/kitchen area, a full bathroom with Mexican tile, and a separate bedroom. The loft is accessed through the bedroom. There is a covered portal with a wood stove and comfortable furniture on the front of the casita overlooking the vineyard and fields.
The casita is screened from the main house and is oriented toward the gardens, fields and vineyard. The flagstone patio borders the acequia, the traditional irrigation canal for the farm, and looks out over farmland and down to the cottonwood trees bordering the river. A small bridge leads across the acequia into the vineyard and old orchard. Guests are invited to enjoy seasonal produce.
You can also walk the 1/2 mile down the lane along the farm fields and through the meadow land to banks of the Chama River and enjoy the peacefulness of the river from the shaded campsite at the riverbank with picnic table and chairs and firepit.
Nearby the farm, hiking and riding trails lead to BLM and National Forest lands offering a variety of landscapes to enjoy -- vast open mesas, arroyos to explore, pine forests, mountain vistas. Also nearby are the ruins of little-known old Indian settlements. Ojo Caliente with its fabled hot springs and spa facilities is a short drive from the farm.
Medanales is a small village with a Hispanic population and tradition just south of Abiquiu of Georgia O’Keeffe fame. The landscape varies from pastures to badlands, with the magic Cerro Pedernal and Sierra Negra on the horizon. Both can be climbed by the more experienced hiker.
Ghost Ranch and the wide and splendidly colored Piedra Lumbre basin are nearby, as is Plaza Blanca with its white sandstone formations. Espanola, the main town in this predominantly Hispanic area, is 15 minutes away. Quite a few interesting restaurants that serve local cuisine (with red or green chili!) can be found here.

Fun at the River Farm Guest Casita
Lisa, Djann and their dogs are wonderful hosts. The casita is comfortable and a home away from home. The farm on the river Chama is relaxing and beautiful you can enjoy a morning, afternoon or evening walk through the fields and down to the river. The farm is close to many things and far enough away from them also.
This is a stay I shall never forget and hope to get back.

Beautiful location, quaint casita that caters to all your needs, owners very sweet. Would have loved to stay longer, we'll be back!
We had an outstanding time at the River Farm Guest Casita and will definitely be going back in the future. The property is absolutely gorgeous and the casita was perfect for myself, my husband and our two dogs. There are beautiful walks at your fingertips and the owners were incredibly accommodating and wonderful hosts. The casita was clean, warm and charming. Can't say enough good things!
Cute casita in a great spot!
The casita was clean and had everything we needed during our stay. The view is beautiful. Close to a couple of small towns with restaurants and about an hour from Taos and Santa Fe.
Peaceful, relaxing, great sun in the winter, and wonderful hosts
What a perfectly relaxing place to stay! We loved the sunny guest house with a patio looking out to the vineyard, beautiful tiled bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable bedroom. Lisa and Djann were unbelievable hosts -- they had wine, cheese and crackers waiting for us when we arrived, and they offered us a tour of the farm, including the beautifully restored meditation room and ceremonial tea house, and Djann's pottery shop. They were a delight to get to know, and couldn't have been more warm and accommodating. It's a short walk to the Chama River or up on the mesa. We so enjoyed our time that we really didn't want to leave!
Beautiful property and a wonderful house
Lisa and Djann were wonderful hosts. The house was super clean and comfortable. It was the perfect place to spend Christmas. Unfortunately my dog was hurt so I wasn’t able to hike around and see the river, or the rest of the 20 acres. However, I will definitely be back when he is healthy and we can enjoy the entire property. Thank you so much Djann and Lisa, hope to see you soon!
