About christine filiberto
I live in Florida and have been spending 2 weeks out of each summer in Prince Edward Island since 1990. I have 4 children who have all been here to visit with me. My youngest child, Alexa, has fallen in love with the home and the island as I have. She has been coming with me every year since she was 3 years old. I am an artist and find great inspiration from the beauty which surrounds my home in Long River. It is my retreat back into a simpler time where things all make sense to me. My heart resides in PEI all year round.
christine filiberto purchased this Cottage in 1991
Why christine filiberto chose French River
My Mom and Dad found this property and purchased the 180 year old Victorian Farm House in 1990. My Mom called to let me know about this 'cute little farm house' located on the same property which was also for sale. I came up and immediately fell in love with their place as well as mine. My Mom and Dad spent many precious summers here. My Mom's last visit was in June of 2009. Although she was weak and frail she gathered up her strength for one last time to go to the place she loved the most. She died the following November at her home in Florida. We released her ashes at Cape Tryon, PEI, which was a place she loved to go to at sunset.I treasure our family memories of this beautiful magical island and feel such gratitude to my parents for finding it. We have friends now that we have become very close to in PEI and have watched their families grow along with ours.
What makes this Cottage unique
For large families a unique benefit is to be able to rent both places out and be right next to each other. The privacy of our homes is very special. We are surrounded by pastures and farmland. We wake up to birds singing and cows mooing every day. We are in the middle of the Island which makes it easy to get to all places you want to go. Our beach at cousin's shore is unique in the fact it has a freshwater stream which meanders from a lake and flows into the ocean, this stream is very warm in the summer and being shallow it is a great place for children to frolic. This beach is vast and wide and it is common to have bonfires there at night. It is uncrowded and peaceful. There are wonderful restaurants close by and in 2013 Sting had a tour stop/performance in Summerside ,which is 15 minutes from our house. He was amazing! We love going into Charlottetown for shopping, festivals, theatre, casino and poker room, harness racing, and fine dining. It is a scenic and pleasant drive 45 minutes from our house. The airport is also located in Charlottetown.

We love it here!
We love Chrissydale….beautiful view from the deck. Feels like our second home.
Beautiful, idyllic farm landscape!
Home away from home atmosphere!
Enjoyed the relaxing view and cozy country home! Everything we had hoped it would be!
I am so pleased to know you had a great time at Chrissydale cottage and that you loved your stay there
Nice house with three large rooms. This was perfect for this week in PEI. We we're sad to leave...
Well located. The area is very nice and very quiet. It felt like home!
The location and property were stunning! We felt very happy nestled between the potato fields.
It is an older farm house with all that charm. Everything was clean and tidy and the beds were very comfortable. The only down side were a few funny black bugs that came out in the evenings, just on the first few nights (only on the main floor) they were harmless and easily disposed of. It definitely felt like home away from home. Loved it and would highly recommend it.
I am so pleased you had a great stay at Chrissydale cottage!
The black beetles were definitely a problem this year! We intend to have both houses treated prior to our rental season next year. I appreciate your accurate description of these beetle bugs as many guests have compared them to cockroaches, which are not located any place on the island. They are not a pest of the sort as cockroaches as they do not bite and they are not unsanitary, just a nuisance to many!. I appreciate your candor on this subject and again I am so happy you enjoyed your stay!
Bugs, Bugs, Bugs
My husband and I saved for two years to rent this house for what was supposed to be our honeymoon and dream vacation. We paid a good deal and drove 800 miles over two days to get to PEI. When we arrived, the house itself was very cute. But, then we found the Bugs. Every night, we were inundated, infested, and disgusted by dozens and dozens of large, flying black beetles. We would find them in every room each night, as we found out they are nocturnal. It was awful. The caretaker did come to the cottage and try to take of the issue, along with the maid on call. This is why we are giving the house two stars - these people took the time out of their weekend to attempt to resolve this issue. However, spraying in the house and putting poison around the outside of the house did not deter these insects as we continued to find them, both dead and alive, each morning. As a result, we didn't feel comfortable to eat or cook in the kitchen - the room the beetles favored the most. In addition to the bug issue, the tub didn't drain and the washing machine wasn't working and the house phone was also inoperable. We also came to find out that most of these issues were known prior to our arrival, but hadn't been taken care of. PEI was gorgeous, but we wish that we had selected different accommodations.
I am sincerely sorry about the situation of the beetle bugs and I wish it would not have happened to you. I checked in with my island friends and it seems there was in fact a very unusual infestation of the black beetles this year and particularly the the time you were there. I am glad to know my site manager and cleaning services were prompt in trying to fix this situation. I also spoke to them about the bathtub drain and the washer and they said these problems were fixed as soon as they were notified. The land line phone is being checked out. We do our best to resolve all issues asap. Mother Nature is always a challenge. I'm glad you were still able to enjoy PEI!!!!
Accommodations were nice, except for the bugs
The place was indeed a farmhouse so it was quite "rustic". Plus, it was a 3 bedroom house which is not easy to find that is affordable. While the amenities were good, the place did have a problem with some sort of "beetle" that came in at night and needed to sweep away in the morning. At night, they were everywhere even on the second floor where we slept.
Oddly enough we were warned in a welcome letter when we arrived that you might have mice if you leave out food. That was never a problem but these insects were.
The only other issue was the bed in the largest room: it was like sleeping on a plank, very uncomfortable. Otherwise the stay was nice and we enjoyed ourselves. Not likely to return here though.
I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay inspire of the Beatle invasion. Mother Nature lives abundantly in PEI and these Beatles do swarm on occasion . I am glad we could take care of the nuisance right away.
I have not had other complaints about the bed but I will check into that next spring. Thank you and best wishes
Chrissydale Cottage is located in the heart of the island close to Kensington in an area known as Long River. It is near a beautiful secluded beach at Cousin's Shore (a five minute drive) . Also, the beach is free, whereas the National Park beach at Cavendish costs $17 a day. Excellent restaurants are a short drive away. And New London Bay with its fishing and lobster fleet is ten minutes away. Privacy, peacefulness, and pastoral beauty are important features of the Chrissydale site. A spacious, tree shaded yard is great for family play. The large deck, with a 'million dollar view' into the community of Long River, is ideal for lounging with your morning coffee and for barbeques (propane grill provided). . For a peaceful, relaxed visit to one of the world's most beautiful islands, this is the perfect spot. Nestled in a valley surrounded by pastures with cows, trees full of singing birds, and freshly plowed fields of grain, wheat or potatoes. This windswept island holds magic in its land. There are many activities for the entire family to enjoy including world class golf courses, excellent dining, theatre, harness racing, casino, and best of all quiet serenity in a private location conveniently located in the heart of the island .
We have an excellent cleaning service and our maintenance person lives right at the end of the road to take care of any problems that may arise.
Cousins shore is the local beach (less than 2 miles away)and it awaits you with pink sand, high cliffs and a meandering fresh water stream which is shallow enough for children to play in (with supervision of course!) and is warmer than the ocean. The stream is usually no more than a foot or 2 deep. Kensington is the closest town and is about 10 minutes away. There are restaurants ,a drug store, liquor store, grocery store, gas stations, and my favorite place Frosty treat! They have the best ice cream there. Summerside is the next closest town and is about 20 minutes away. Charlottetown is the "big city" and it is about 45 minutes away. I encourage people to log onto PEItourism.com to look for events and places to see during your stay.
