Our house is arguably located in the best part of Waikanae's Olde Beach area. With kms of pristine beach sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds by Kapiti Island, to the magnificent, wild landscape of the Tararua Range and Forest Park, Waikanae's natural beauty is breathtaking. The area is easily accessed by car, train or air, and just 45 minutes from the capital Wellington.
Waikanae is one of 5 coastal towns on the Kapiti Coast and includes one of the largest remaining areas of native forest - the beautiful Hemi Matanga Memorial Scenic Reserve. The town features boutique shops, cafes, restaurants, Kapiti's public art gallery, Mahara and a large and busy Saturday market.
Our house is situated in the sought after 'Olde Beach' area and is near to major attractions including Nga Manu Nature Reserve - a popular attraction for nature lovers with eel feeding, tuataras (NZ's largest native reptile and the only surviving member of a class of dinosaur that flourished ~200 million years ago) and many species of birds in a beautiful natural setting. Also nearby is Waikanae Golf Course, the Waikanae river and estuary walk, Southwards Car Museum, Queen Elizabeth Park and world renowned Kapiti Island.
The area offers abundant tramping, cycling and horse riding trails. Perhaps one of the biggest draws is Waikanae Beach itself. Easily accessible and sheltered by Kapiti Island, Waikanae Beach boasts one of the best swimming venues on the Kapiti Coast. Besides being safe and having a gentle descent from shallow to deep, it’s also soft on your feet as there are no stones or rocks underneath.
