Whangamata is about an hour and a half from Auckland, Hamilton or Tauranga and is a popular coastal town with a fantastic surf and swimming beach. Take a kayak tour to Donut Island or take a trip or hike to Wentworth Falls. There are plenty of shops and cafes in the town or take a drive out to Opoutere Beach and check out the Coastal Bird Reserve, or grab your paddleboard and head to the estuary where the waters are a bit calmer.
