About this property

BUKKA Boutique Retreat: Walk To Beach & Dining

A 'Bukka' is a simple hut, and we kept that spirit. It’s a mix of Japandi minimalism and the sun-drenched energy of Tulum—half-fortress, half-surf-shack, and completely grounded.

A short, 3 minute stroll will have your toes in the sand at our local beach, while a ten-minute wander up the road takes you to Mandurah's best cafes, bars, and restaurants.

The Courtyard:
Shut the heavy Indian gates and leave the world behind. This is your private sun-trap, featuring raw latte poles for filtered light, a built-in lounge made for losing an entire afternoon, and a hammock that’s a genuine struggle to get out of. Once the sun dips, grab a drink and project a movie onto the wall for a cinema night under the stars!

The Lounge:
The headquarters for doing absolutely nothing. It’s an open-plan hideout filled with tribal finds and textures from our travels. Sink into the deep, pillowy sofa or hijack the swivel recliner with a book. When the 'golden hour' hits, the raw timber glows—it’s the perfect time to chill out with our recommended Spotify Bukka playlists.

The Kitchen & 'Sushi Table:'
The heart of the house is the long ‘sushi table’—built for lazy breakfasts and late-night stories. The kitchen is fully kitted with a full-sized fridge, microwave, and an airfryer for post-surf snacks. Whether you’re into Nespresso, a slow Bodum pour-over, or a quiet tea, we’ve got you covered. When the sun starts to drop, there’s a blender and cocktail shaker ready for those much needed sunset drinks.

The Sleeping Sanctuaries:
The Master: Wabi-Sabi Zen. Think a King bed draped in French linens that look better the more you rumple them. Anchored by antique Javanese doors and a massive hand-carved mirror, it’s a quiet retreat where the rest of the world fades out.

The Guest Suite: Just as low-key and comfortable. Another King bed, crisp linens, and soft lighting. Both suites have serious A/C, so you’re guaranteed that deep, "I’m on holiday" sleep even on balmy coastal nights.

The Bathroom:
A mix of raw stone and rustic soul. We’ve got double rain heads—perfect for washing off the salt and sand—and a vanity made from a century-old limestone trough. We’ve stocked the cupboard with the good stuff - organic wash, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer and all those bits & bobs you may have forgotten.

The Little Things:

BUKKA is equipped for effortless living. A hidden laundry provides a washing machine and ironing facilities, while our full beach kit—including towels, picnic blanket, cooler bag, and a sun umbrella—is ready for swimming or simply chasing those sunsets. A dedicated BBQ is set up in the courtyard - perfect for those nights you'd rather stay in than head to a restaurant.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

About the host

Host profile image
I’m a Kiwi-born beach lover who traded life at 35,000 feet for a much shorter commute to the sand. I live in the front house with my family and our Schnauzer, Milo—the bearded boss of the property who definitely thinks he’s in charge.

I’ve got a serious thing for interior design and spend way too much time obsessing over the details or rearranging furniture to make a house feel like a home. When I’m not styling, I’m usually chasing the perfect sunset or enjoying the quiet life by the water.

I love hosting because it lets me share this hidden coastal gem I’ve put so much heart into. I’m always around if you need a local tip, but I’ll happily leave you to the peace and quiet of Bukka.

Why they chose this property

Mandurah is pure coastal bliss, and the "chill-out factor" here is hard to beat. It’s a place where the air smells like salt and the pace of life slows down the second you hit the shoreline.

The scene is all about the water. A three-minute stroll from Bukka and your toes are in the sand at our local beach. It’s the kind of spot where you can clear your head, watch the dolphins cruise by, or check the surf. If you’re feeling more active, you can wander ten minutes up the road to the foreshore. Mandurah’s cafe and restaurant scene has leveled up—whether you want a slow brunch at Mataya, a craft beer at Boundary Island, or a fancy waterfront dinner at Flics, we’re spoiled for choice.

But what I enjoy most is the daily ritual of chasing sunsets. There is nothing like grabbing a cold drink, heading to the dunes or the balcony, and watching the sky turn neon pink over the Indian Ocean. It’s the ultimate way to end a day.

It’s a place to just be. No rush, no stress—just good coffee, great design, and that easy coastal energy.

What makes this property unique

What makes Bukka stand out is that it doesn’t feel like a sterile rental—it feels like a soul. The aesthetic is a deliberate mix of "half surf-shack, half fortress." It’s solid, private, and tucked away, but once you’re inside, that rugged exterior gives way to pure coastal charm.

I’ve obsessed over the design to make sure every corner has a story. It’s all about texture: the warmth of old reclaimed wood, gritty concrete and collection of global treasures I’ve picked up from my years traveling. It’s a space that celebrates the "perfectly imperfect."
