The village of Upper Captiva: The village of Upper Captiva sits on the northern tip of North Captiva Island, a secluded tropical island in Southwest Florida. This bridge-less island is unique among the sandy coastal barrier islands of Florida. North Captiva Island is surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound, about six miles off the mainland of Florida. Boca Grande lies to the north and Captiva and Sanibel lie to the south.

This tropical island is one pearl in the necklace of 'outer islands' embracing Pine Island Sound. Access is only by boat or private airplane. No cars! No crowds! This has assured that the island remains unspoiled and unhurried. Its sandy beaches are decorated with an endless supply of driftwood and seashells surpassing that of the legendary Sanibel/Captiva beaches. Upper Captiva is a truly unique combination of comfort and luxury in an idyllic tropical

Best Vacation Yet!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed in the Hidden Beach House for 7 days in July 2009. We absolutely were excited about going to the house. Once we arrived the exceeded our expectations. We had all the comforts of home! It was exactly as it was discribed on the website. The owners once we met in person were like old firends and ever so welcoming to have us stay in their home. This was one of our best vacations. It is a vacation for those who are not wanting alot of external attractions. The only attraction we did was rent a speedboat for the day. We visited the nearby barrier islands and walked a beach that was a nature preserve. Beautiful shells were seen even an area where the sea turtles lay and hatch eggs. There were dolphins swimming all around us. A manatee was spotted on our trip to Captiva. How cool! The biggest decisions we had to make daily was 'Do we go to the beach or pool today. We saw numerous beautiful sunsets but did not make it up early enough to see the sunrise...we say next time! We will most likely be returning to the Hidden Beach House.

We have been to North Captiva a total of four times. The last three have been spent at the Hidden Beach House. It is always an amazing experience. Tom and Pat are so kind and have truly thought of everything to make your visit as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The house is always very clean and the beds are amazing. The outside set up is one that works for everyone. My kids love the heated pool, my husband loves the bar and pool table/dart board, and I enjoy the hammock watching all the others.... If you are looking for a little bit of Heaven on Earth...try North Captiva and the Hidden Beach House.

We can't wait to come back!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had such a relaxing week at the Hidden Beach House. Pat and Tom were very easy to communicate with leading up to our visit and very hospitable upon arrival. The house was just like the pictures - maybe even a little better! We thoroughly enjoyed having the pool before or after a hot day at the beach. We used the pool table, corn hole, ping pong, board games - just about everything the house offered. The golf cart is great to have for getting around the island with your beach gear, but we all had so much fun on the bicycles. The beds are comfortable, the furniture is nice to lounge around in the evenings, the screened porch was our perfect place for breakfast. We were all so tired at the end of each day even though this was our "relaxing" vacation, but we slept great! The visitors (tortoises and lizards) kept us company without being a nuisance, and the fan below the house was nice to help with the mosquitoes. We have nothing to complain about, and we can't wait until we can come back!

Great Home on a Great Island!

  • 5 of 5

The photos of this home do not do it justice. The house is clean and colorful. There was plenty of space for our family of 5 (including 3 teenagers), and everyone was comfortable. Some things that set this house apart from others we've stayed at on the island was:

1. The ammenities: We had everything we needed and wanted right at the house! Pool, pool table, darts, hammocks, plenty of bikes, even kayaks and a trailer to haul them. I'm sure I'm leaving many things out- we just didn't even have enough time to play with everything!

2. The drinking water: Many homes on the island have a sulfer-like smell to the drinking water. Not this one! The water is clear and smell-free! Pat and Tom provide a Britta filter to further filter drinking water, and we really appreciated not having to lug gallons of water over to the island.

3.The location: While not beachfront, this is a great location, midway between the nature preserve on the south end, and the airstrip near the north end (take the kayaks to the sound side of the airstrip to kayak with the dolphins every day)! It was a quick stroll to the beach, or we could load all of our beach "gear" on the golf cart to set up our spot for the day.

4. Golf Carts: The cart that was provided (plus the extra cart) were in great condition and lifted to handle the bumpy roads.

5. The owners: Pat and Tom were great! I cannot tell you enough the value of being able to communicate with the owners and not with a managing entity. They answered all our questions quickly both before and during our stay.

This was our 3rd trip to North Captiva, and the 3rd house we've rented. The first two were beachfront, but were lacking in more important areas (water quality, amenities, fun). Third try's a charm! Our teenage children (19,18, and 16) were asking to come back and rent this house again to bring their friends. I think they enjoyed the downstairs rec area as much or more than they enjoyed the beach.

Amazing house, amazing island and perfect for a family get away from it vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing holiday in Pat's home and Pat was extremely helpful both before, during and after the trip. The house was very well equipped for everything a family needs from golf cart, kayaks, bikes, beach chairs, swimming pool, pool table, darts board. The island was idyllic and the location of the house was perfect. We had been to Disney and New York and this house was the ideal end to a busy and hectic week. Would definitely recommend.

It is a short walk or quick ride in the golf cart to reach the pristine natural beach of North Captiva Island. We on Hidden Lane are in the popular “close to everything” neighborhood of Jose’s Hideaway. The house is part of the beach lying on one of the highest coastal “back dunes” about 200 steps from the windswept shore of the wide open “fore dune” environment. There are only four other homes scattered on the secondary dunes between you and the Gulf of Mexico.

The shady bay side maritime forest and harbor side facilities are equally

convenient. The golf cart and bicycles are provided at no extra cost for exploring the island. A variety of beach accessories include beach chairs, beach towels, skim boards, kayaks and much more. Transportation to the Island is available by water taxi/ferry by fare. Boat rentals and fishing charters are also available nearby.

Other Activities: Kayaking, Shelling, Boating
