Amazing cottage in a stunning location
We, 4 adults and 2 teenagers, stayed at the Seal cottage for one week at the end of May, but we could honestly have stayed forever. The property owner John was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. On our arrival we were met by Tomas who is a property manager and who explained to us everything to the smallest detail, even bought some essential food for us as we arrived late in the evening. The Seal cottage is set in the most beautiful location and is very well equipped with everything you would need and more. The master bedroom is located on the ground floor facing the sea and the view you wake up to every morning is to die for. The en- suite bathroom is very spacious and boasts beautiful views too. Upstairs there are 2 double bedrooms, both with en-suites and another very large bedroom that has two single beds. Downstairs there is a good size kitchen with a nice dining area, living room with all your mod cons and a really spacious utility room with washing machine and a dryer. We particularly loved the green conservatory with plants and trees growing straight out of the ground. We loved exploring the grounds and walked down to the private beach, we even tried fishing from a nearby pier..
We have managed to use the sauna few times and it only took about 40 minutes to start it up.. The only disappointment was that we were unable to use the swimming pool, though solar panel heated, due to lack of sunshine, it was too cold for us to enjoy, but would be fine for the braver ones :)
We managed to organise a sea fishing trip, we were lucky to catch some mackerels and pollocks, which we then cooked on a barbecue kindly supplied by John. We experienced the old cable car over to the Dursey island and walked across the island, which was very scenic and calming.
Catsletownbere is a small fishing harbour town, but very busy, with all the essential shops and a really big supermarket.
We loved our time spent at the cottage and will definitely be returning.
This property was perfect for comfortably accommodating our large group of 8. We had lots of room both in the cottage and outside. The place was very clean and comfortable and the owner had left plenty of logs for the fire and had even came the day before to put the heating on to pre warm it for us which was a nice touch as it was a very cold day!
The garden views and private shingle bay below were amazing with seals on the rocks each morning and we had some great weather to enjoy it.
Thank you for staying. I'm glad you had a pleasant stay and look forward to having you back again at a future date
Wonderful Place to stay
What a wonderful place. Peaceful, luxurious, on the ocean, great house with a warm and welcoming host. Nearby the local town and on route to some of the most wonderful scenery in Ireland. Highy recomend! The home had more than I could have expected in a stunning part of the world. Well cared for with great appeal!
Hi Ian, It was a pleasure having you stay. I look forward to having you back again at some future date with your wife and family. That is a beautiful condo you have on the beach in Mexico. Very tempting despite the long trip from Ireland!! Talk soon. Best Regards, John
Wonderful peaceful location
This is a truly wonderful holiday location. The facilities were all in top condition. All the rooms were clean. Hot water and heating was working. Open fire in the living room every night with plentiful supply of kindling and firewood. There is a lovely greenhouse area which would get warm when there was prolonged sunshine, of course not always guaranteed to see that yellow orb in the sky...
Customer service was excellent and I would definitely recommend this property to any of my friends or relatives who wished to stay in the Castletownbere area.
Hi Ollie, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Seal Cottage. I hope you made it back to Seattle ok. It is good that you are returning again mid-October. I look forward to that. It is a different feel as the winter approaches. See you then. Regards, John
Beware! Dirty! Rundown and overcharge!
We have staid at about a dozen holiday homes over the last couple of years. Some very nice ones. This was the worst. The house has a nice architecture but is run down at many corners. When we arrived we had to face a sticky kitchen floor, pots with food remains in the closets, a part of the stove half full with cold grease. We showed it to the care taker. He apologized. We made pictures and sent them to the owner. He was not available. After we left he wrote us that he will look into the issues and charged us 80 Euros (!) for cleaning. Also he charged for rubbish disposal what is not mentioned in the offering. The landscape is in much worse condition as the pictures are suggesting. Many bushes have overgrown limiting view and use. Obviously somebody stopped taking care of land and house some time ago.
We cannot recommend this house for obvious reasons.
We had an amazing time at your lovely house and grounds. We could feel ourselves relaxing the moment we arrived. The kids never left the pool. Your groundsman was very helpful and always available to help with any questions we had. The sea views from all rooms is so enchanting. We have shown your site to many of our friends and hope to stay with you again in the future.
It was a pleasure having Ollie and his family stay at Seal Cottage and I'm delighted they had an enjoyable stay. They are most welcome to stay again at a future date
