Luxury House on Seafront, with Pool, Sauna, Jacuzzi and Woodlands

Seal Cottage is located in a most exclusive part of the Beara peninsula, Waterfall, Castletownbere, West Cork which has a long history. It overlooks a private beach and has spectacular sea views.

On the eastern side of Seal Cottage lies Waterfall House. It was the official residence of the Royal Naval commodore of the Western Approaches squadron, anchored in Berehaven. It was purchased a number of years back by the film director Neil Jordan who spends much of his free time there.

Beside Seal Cottage lies the Hermitage, built just after the Second World War. It was built on the site of a farmstead - Curryglass House, dating back to about 1800. Erskine Hamilton Childers, President of the Irish Republic and son of the IRA man Robert Erskine Childers, stayed in the house periodically with the owners his friends.


Seal Cottage accommodation comprises approx 3,500 sq.ft. briefly:
- entrance hallway
- large utility room with Miele washing machine, dryer, large freezer and storage for household goods. There is an entrance to garage off the utility room.
- Large double bedroom downstairs with walk-in wardrobe and large en-suite with shower, toilet, wash basin and Jacuzzi bath overlooking the lawn and sea. There are also patio doors opening on to a private patio area from the bedroom.
- luxury living room
- fully equipped kitchen
- dining area overlooking the sea and Bere Island
- large conservatory with a range of tropical trees such as banana trees etc.
- upstairs there are two double bedrooms each with en-suite bathrooms
- there is also a very large 'spare' room upstairs which can be used as a visitor room, office, study etc
- there is zoned electric under floor heating in all downstairs areas.

There is a Bose surround sound system which also has the option of being switched on in the conservatory area.
- There is a solar heated swimming pool in the garden which is available for use from 01-Apr to end-Sep depending on weather and a traditional Scandinavian sauna in the woods.
- There is private access to the beach down steps at the eastern side of the site.
- There is a private mooring for a boat.
- the entire site is wooded with a natural walkway through it.
- There is also a stream flowing through part of the woodland which had been used to create a miniature lake.

Brilliant location and setting

The house is in a central location on the spectacular Beara peninsula. Big rooms and great facilities and you can swim in the sea from the extensive garden. Our second visit!

Memories for a lifetime

Idyllic

We were a group of 8, aged from 50 to 93. The facilities and location were second to none, and we would have no hesitation in returning to this property. As regular renters, this property is up there with the very best. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the Beara peninsula.

Beautiful, clean and spacious property with lovely views of the sea, a private beach, large garden etc. we didn’t use the pool or sauna but they were there. Would have preferred a bigger oven, it’s a microwave/ oven combo, but we managed alright. A lovely spot.

What Great Experience

We stayed at the cottage for a week and loved the remote, country atmosphere. we were close to town and a few restaurants but based on the time of year a lot was closed. The cottage was amazing and comfortably fit all 8 of us. the owner and caretaker were/ are amazing and checked in regularly to assure we had what was needed and to provide local advice and adventures. We will be back!

Wonderful house with direct beach access

We really enjoyed our stay at Seal Cottage, it's located directly at a pebble beach in a very quiet location & it's wonderful to wake up to the view & tranquility. The sauna & pool were fabulous too, really unique to have this privately with a holiday home. The pool was cold but I assume during the summer months the solar heating works better. The woodlands made for a great adventure for the children, there is a little pond even & just great space to ramble. John & Tomas were friendly & had great tips, check in was easy & overall a very pleasant stay.

Fabulous Cottage

Seal’s Cottage is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The setting is unbelievably gorgeous and comfortable, tucked away in a beautiful part of the Beara peninsula. The amenities outside the Cottage are plentiful and human-size. The Cottage itself is designed with refined taste, and generously equipped with utilities that are extremely easy to operate. John has been a great host, responding quickly to our inquiries, and effectively referred us to a reliable agent for an extra specialized service that we required. Seal’s Cottage will always be among the few top candidate locations for my next vacation.

A fantastic experience. The beach for the children was a homerun! They spent all day hunting for lipids, mussels & clams. The sauna was going was so refreshing after a dip in the pool and bay. A daily ritual. Seal cottage was lovely and most comfortable. Tomas and Margrite(sp) were very helpful. We were there for over 3 weeks and hated to leave! We will return. 5 stars!

Stunning Cork

We had a wonderful week - super relaxing. The house was lovely and had a stunning outlook over the bay - where we saw seals basking on the rocks. It has everything you need - a great BBQ, super wood-fired sauna, great Wi-Fi, a “cinema room” for when the Wild Atlantic weather intervenes and within easy driving distance across some of the best scenery in Ireland to Kenmare, Killarney and other places. Castletown Bere is a few KMs away with very good supermarkets and some lovely restaurants (Breen’s was super, with great seafood chowder). Communication from the owner was very good, and we were welcomed at the house by the lovely Tomas who gave us lots of useful tips for our week. Highly recommend!!!

Perfect relaxing break

We have just returned from our break at seal cottage. What a beautiful place! Our stay was so relaxing and enjoyable. The house really is first class. We loved the sauna in the woods, it was easy to use and took around 30 mins to heat up. Having read previous reviews we bought wetsuits for the pool and we were glad we did as it was very cold, but perfect for what we were looking for. The house is situated on a rocky cove and we saw seals playing on the rocks in the evenings. The conservatory was perfect for relaxing and is quite unique with its selection of plants. The pictures don’t do this house justice, it is just beautiful.

We have never had so much personal attention from our host via Tomas when checking in and during our stay. Need information about the area? Just ask Tomas, he knows EVERYTHING!!! The house and property exceeded our expectations on all levels. We had a lovely time exploring local sites and dining in town several times. Dinner at Murphys in town was a perfect cap to our week in Castletownbere. The grocery store in town was more than adequate. Make sure to visit Dursey Island via the cable car and treat yourself to a snack of monkfish at the food truck located at the base of the cable car station. Just make sure to schedule some down time so you can enjoy the sauna, the solarium and this beautiful property!

We absolutely loved our week in Seal Cottage.It was everything we hoped and more!!!the pictures as great as they are, do not do it justice.Nestled in private woodlands with your own little beach and amazing views out to the sea and Bere Island. The grounds are immaculate as was the cleanliness of the property.We stayed in the master bedroom and the views from the room and the ensuite were a joy to wake up to.We were in the pool every single day of our week and its gorgeous. We stay at home in Ireland every year for our holidays and have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing properties over the last 15 years all along the West Coast but we all agreed this house is the best yet!!!!Check in and out was simple.Thomas was lovely to deal with and the house had everything you would need -lots of towels,blankets etc and lots of little kitchen basics too which is so handy.To wake up every morning and take a fresh cup of Nespresso coffee out to the patio and hear the sea,seals and peace was just an amazing experience!Can you tell we loved it!!!we hope to be lucky enough to stay in Seal Cottage again.

Die Lage des Hauses ist super gut. Der große Garten, der wunderbare Blick aufs Wasser und das Haus selbst sind sehr einladend und bieten Alles was man für einen erholsamen Urlaub benötigt. Wir waren 1 Woche mit 6 Erwachsenen dort und wollten gar nicht mehr weg. Das Haus ist sehr sauber und bietet jede Menge Platz. Ein großes Lob an den freundlichen Hauskeeper Thomas. Er hat uns bei unserer Ankunft empfangen, alles erklärt und war stets erreichbar. Dieses Haus hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen. Absolut empfehlenswert!!

Fantastic Find

We have stayed 3 times at seal cottage and we have had a fantastic holiday each time. The house is really gorgeous with every modern amenity, really clean. The swimming pool keeps all the family occupied, the sauna has been upgraded but nothing can bet the unbelievable views from the garden/patio. Thomas is a great host and John the owner tells you everything you need to know. The beara peninsula is a lovely hidden peninsula. We can't wait for our next trip to seal cottage!

Wonderful house at a wonderful location

Seal cottage is a great destination, we all thoroughly enjoyed out time there. It's the best equipped house we've stayed in - everything you need is there and our contact Tomas was very helpful. The location is wonderful, we were lucky with the weather but either way, there's some truly stunning scenery nearby. The kids loved the pool and the sauna, and the beach at the end of the garden. The cinema room upstairs was also a great hit... Would happily recommend this as a place to stay and see the beautiful Beara peninsula.
