The Lake House on Pelican Lake

"The Lake House" has a beautiful view of Pelican Lake. Many large oak trees surround the house, which gives you a very cozy feeling and has a homie atmosphere. The property is just 5 minutes away from Glenwood, where you can have everything that you need, Also, it is 20 minutes south of Alexandria, Minnesota. Lake Minnewaska, is between Glenwood and Starbuck, which is only 5 minutes away. There are great eating establishments, which have dining by the lake.

There is a deck where you can relax and also, a bench on the dock, if you would like to be on the water. The lake has a public boat landing, if in case you want to bring your own boat where you can tie it to our dock which is just in our backyard. You never know if you will catch a bass, northern or walleye. The lake has pretty good fishing spots. The wildlife is plentiful in the area. It's common to see deer, geese or pheasants in the front yard.

This property is also available for Fall hunting or Winter rental, if you would care to go ice fishing.

Amazing house and Hostess!

We had a wonderful time on our stay. Although it was hot and the fish weren’t biting, we had a great time. The house was very nice and clean and at a great location. We will definitely go back.

Our stay at "The Lake House" was wonderful. Marilyn was wonderful to work with to ensure our vacation was all that we expected. Although we experienced an unusual amount of cool days for July, we enjoyed our time and outside of the house. The deck was a wonderful location for our family to gather for meals and games. We did enjoy the dock regardless of the challenging weather. The location of the property was so convenient to areas where we could rent kayaks as well as places to tour and hike. We were also close to stores so we could pick up any items that we had forgotten. ENJOYABLE STAY!

The house and property were wonderful and everything we wanted. Only down fall is the lake is not one to swim in as it is muddy and full if weeds. Other than that, I would recommend it to all.

Nice lake home on Pelican Lake.

We were at this lake home at a very unusual time as there was a real lack of water due to drought conditions and heat so that we could not dock our boat or rented pontoon. Other than that, we had a very nice time. Lake Minnewaska is real close and has two great beaches and launch areas. Kitchen was well equipped with dishwasher, etc. We enjoyed the large deck, central air and ceiling fans. Thank you for excellent communication too.

Peaceful Getaway

We had a great time here and Marilyn was awesome with great communication. Our boat lost battery on lake and she called a neighbor to come pull us back to shore! Everything was seamless and just what we needed! We will be back! 🎉❤️🚤

Good visit

We had a nice visit and the cabin worked very well for us when we visited family for the holidays. The apartment was warm, even though it was sub-zero weather. The neighbor also did a nice job keeping the driveway clear of snow.

New to VRBO and not to VRBO Standards or Expectations

This review is not written lightly, this property truly has great potential to be a destination VRBO. The owners are new so we stayed at the destination (there was literally no where else in a 60 mile radius that could have accommodated us at short notice) and tried to let them know several items that were not up to the level of expectations we have become accustomed to with other VRBOs we have rented. Things like the multiple calls/texts to talk over check in process and what you can and cannot use or what the property does or does not offer. We suggested more details on the listing and lists of guest expectations etc, to this they responded "well I called and told you", again telling one guest all the details is not convenient for the that guest or the rest. We let them know the property's cleanliness was not good, multiple cobwebs in and outside the home, remnants of rodents, after the "cleaning person" had been there, a problem that should probably be taken care of prior to renting out again. This was not received well, which was disappointing. The price for the cleanliness, ease of check in/communication was too high in our opinion. As stated, this was not written lightly as it could be a great place with a little effort from the owners.

What was hard to understand was that we had talked to you an hour before you arrived, when you went thru Willmar, to give you final information. At that time I indicated for you to call me and let me know if there were any problems or questions when you arrived. You didn't call/text and then complained 3 days later about the cleanliness after you had checked out. I asked why you didn't call me and I would have sent the cleaner back over there to clean what you felt was missed or for you to call VRBO to complain. Neither was done. I also explained we were new and my laminated informational letter was not completed, hence the extra calls. You're right, I did not receive your email very well, especially when you asked for a refund at such a late time and insulted us to say our place was only worth $225 a night. You had 8 people there and that would be $480 for 2 rooms at the Grand Stay in Glenwood, 2 blocks from the water, which wouldn't even include a kitchen, 2 levels of a house, 7 beds, large deck over looking the lake with 2 round tables and 8 chairs, a dock for use with your rented pontoon, a large tube in garage for you to use, etc. We even accommodated you by reducing from a 3 night minimum to a 2 night minimum. Also, we have cleaned the cobwebs off twice this summer and they keep coming back. We talked to a neighbor and they spray every year, so we are going to spray for spiders next year. We spent many years getting our home ready for VRBO. We built our new composite deck, landings and steps, 3 new retaining walls, 2 sets of large rock steps, etc. We have put in alot of effort and I think it's noted by the other reviews.

Family gathering

The basement part of the house has a big open area that has a queen bed, and a pull out futon. At the time of our booking, that wasn't clearly depicted in photos, but it was explained verbally on the phone. The owners were there to greet us and make sure to explain very thoroughly everything we needed to know. We were called almost daily during our visit. The kitchen is very well-equipped, as well as towels, linens, etc. It was a perfect set up for our group! The lake was weedy, and not suited for swimming from the dock. We did catch some fish from our boat! There is a great public swimming beach about 10 minutes away in Starbuck!
