Private lakefront chalet great for families.

Welcome to our chalet on the lake, offering the perfect getaway from the city's hustle and bustle. Just two hours north of New York, the Red Cottage offers a quiet and peaceful escape to nature. This is the perfect spot to relax & destress after a day on the lake, on the slopes, and/or exploring the Catskills and the Hudson Valley.

This is a three-level spacious cottage offers 4BR 2BA with direct access to the lake and a private dock. We provide our guests with kayaks, a paddle board and a canoe for those who like to exercise and enjoy the the peace and quiet of the water.

There two bedrooms on the lower level: one with bunk beds, full on top and queen on the bottom, and a second one with a queen bed. There is a full bathroom on the first level as well as a laundry room.

The living room area is equipped with a 75" smart TV, a Marshall speaker and a credenza full with games. For the chefs, the kitchen which is right off the living room is fully equipped with a stove, microwave, blender, toaster, air fryer, waffle maker, coffee maker as well as dinnerware for groups of all sizes.

Step outside on the deck and enjoy a view of the lake, the chirping of the birds and the peaceful surroundings. Sit down, relax and marvel nature, or enjoy a meal and a great conversation with your family and friends.

The top level has a master bedroom overlooking the lake with an en suite bathroom. There is also an office with a couch that converts into a full bed.

The Red Cottage is located 15 Minutes across the river from Hudson, NY, 5 minutes to Catskill, 30 minutes to Woodstock and Rhinebeck, 25 minutes to Hunter Mountain and Windham for the skiing enthusiasts, and about 40 minutes from the Massachusetts Berkshires and all they have to off

Great place! Lots of space for family with kids and a dog to spread out. House has lots of things to keep kids busy (basketball, swings, boats and hammock). The lake is really peaceful and you can take the boats over to the pool dock and our dog enjoyed going to ‘dog beach’. Something for everyone!

The Red Cottage was the best rental ever. Extremely well stocked with everything and the location was awesome. The canoe and kayaks were the best. Would definitely stay again.

Beautiful and relaxing

The owner of this property was fantastic to work with. The home itself was super clean and so quaint. Everything was thought of: kitchen well stocked, games, books and best of all on the lake. We did it all including made use of the kayaks and canoe.what a wonderful family place to stay!

A Gem in the Hudson Valley

We have enjoyed numerous VRBO vacations but the Little Red Cottage far exceeded any other in. terms of the thoughtfulness of the host in making sure their guests were provided a comfortable and well equipped home away from home. The cupboards were stocked with ll the necessities and more...little touches everywhere demonstrated the commitment to guest comfort and convenience, from all sorts of water toys to a wonderful fire ring - firewood provided!

Cozy house on the lake

Great stay at the lake house. This was a dream vacation that concluded our summer season 2024. Cozy house with nice touches and access to the lake. Nice area for a morning walk and biking on the community grounds. Kudos to the owner, Darin, who has been very accommodating.

Great place to relax with family!

Such a great place. The location is perfect. The house had everything we needed. The boats available on the property were so much fun for the family. The lake is quiet and beautiful. We rowed out to the swim beach and the kids had a great time. Lots of different restaurants around with the little towns. Great hiking and waterfalls to view. Host was very welcoming and great with communication.

All We Could Want

Our family, including 14 yr. old twin girls, had a great time! The Red Cottage had everything we needed - inside and out. We swam, kayaked, rode in the canoe, went for a boat ride and out for dinner. Places to eat and shop were within a 10 minute ride, but the cottage and neighborhood were beautiful and peaceful. We would definitely consider staying there again.

Family Week at Sleepy Hollow

Beautiful house, the community is awesome. We all enjoyed the variety of activities including swimming , boating and pickleball. Plus the amazing array of museums, art galleries, bakeries and parks that are within easy distance of the house. We also enjoyed the village of. Catskill.

Well equipped house!

We really enjoyed breakfasts on the deck, paddling on the lake, and bonfires at night! The house has boats, chairs, bugspray, candles, firewood, propane, and more! The ktichen is well-stocked with spices and olive oil. The tennis courts are ~1/2 mile away- bring rackets! The host was eager to address any concerts. Great trip!

Great getaway

We had a wonderful little getaway at the Red Cottage! Neighborhood was quiet, peaceful, and private. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Even had spices and some condiments on hand. Beds were comfortable and ac units worked great. We enjoyed launching the kayaks, paddle board, and canoe, that come with the property, from the private dock each day of our visit and found a public dock/park that was only a short walk away for swimming. This was nice as we found the beach (10 min drive away ) was a bit crowded and didn’t allow pets. Plenty of deck seating, wonderful fire pit, and games galore made for a perfect family and friends getaway. Hosts were very flexible with check in and check out times and communicated excellently with us throughout our stay. Had a great time and definitely recommend.

A serene, peaceful cottage, most comfortable

We had an amazing time at this vacation rental home! The property was absolutely lovely – clean, well-organized, and beautifully decorated. The peaceful setting by the lake was truly magical, and we enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife right outside the large kitchen window. The owners were fantastic – they were always quick to respond to our questions and ensured we had everything we needed for a memorable stay. The variety of water toys and games provided added a lot of fun to our time there, and we appreciated the cleverly stocked essentials that made our stay convenient. The neighborhood was a delight to explore, and the friendly atmosphere made us feel welcome. It was a pleasure to take walks around the area. Moreover, the proximity to numerous restaurants, especially dog-friendly ones, was a big plus for us and our Pup! Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better vacation home. We highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-equipped, charming getaway. Thank you to the owners for creating such a wonderful experience for us!

Summer 2023

Nestled in one of many coves on Sleepy Hollow Lake sits the Red Cottage; a comfortable home whose VRBO descriptors are spot on! Quiet and safe, the cottage is an amazingly comfortable home and easily accommodated two families, and Hazel, the family dog. In over ten years of summer lake rentals, we have never encountered such a well stocked kitchen: sugars, flours, wine vinegars, oils, pasta and lots more. The kitchen has sufficient space for two cooks! The dock equipment was as described in the listing. We enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding every day. While we didn’t catch fish from the kayaks on the lake, my granddaughter caught two from the dock! (Remember to catch and release!) A private, clean beach is located minutes away, as well as are the pool areas, tennis courts, and a convenient dog park! The owners are very attentive to any concern you may have. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend the Red Cottage. Thank you, K and D, for sharing your delightful home with us.

End of Sunmer Family Trip

Catskills Spring Break

We came to the Red Cottage for spring break and were immediately greeted with a big bonus when we saw the basketball hoop! Inside, the house was lovely and the kitchen was well stocked. Our host was pleasant and communicative as well, and the binder was full of useful information. The lake was lovely albeit cold (it snowed while we were there!) and the location was great. There were so many beautiful trails nearby. We will definitely be returning!

Wonderful lake-view stay

We loved our stay here! The location is perfect–close enough to Athens and Hudson to get out and about, and right on the lake. The house itself was perfect for entertaining family. We loved the big kitchen, and the living room had enough seating for everyone. Darin was very communicative and helpful with check in and throughout our stay. We will definitely be back!

Family Get away

This home is ideal to host a family with kids looking to enjoy nature and quite time. The kitchen is well equipped to cook daily, but there are plenty of option for dining near by. All rooms and beds were comfortable. Excellent Laundry room. On top of the amenities listed, there is access to lake beach and swimming pool. Friendly roads for walks or bike rides for few miles. For hiker lovers plan to visit the amazing Kaaterskill falls and some of the Hudson River hikes. Very responsive owners.

We are definitely coming back!

As a frequent home renter, know that this property rates in the top. If it's not available the weeks you are looking for - put it in your favorites and check again! The first floor living room, kitchen and lake facing outdoor deck are even lovelier than the photos. The kitchen is overly stocked with serving and food essentials and the owners generous in their offer to use items. Envision very leisurely meals on that deck that just run into each other! The house layout with a master+den/office + full bath upstairs and two bedrooms+ full bath on the lowest level provides wonderful privacy for all. Note the upstairs bathroom is in the master if that is a bedroom sharing issue for your group. The sofa in the den was very comfortable. The basement rooms walk out to an amazing covered space with swinging hammocks we had to pry our friends out of. The lake is down a small paved walkway. The dock has ample space for 3 chairs and the owner provides many non-motorized boats. We explored the lake and the little "fingers" near us on them many times. The homes are lovely. You can swim in the lake, we paddled out a bit to a more open area to enjoy the swimming and sun as the dock is nicely tucked in a quiet corner. The owner has generous amounts of towels, bug candles, and boats. They communicated instantly answering any questions. Loved our time - thanks D!
