Dear Ann, Thank you for your stay and for your time in posting a review. We are glad that you enjoyed the pond, beaches and your vacation at Quitan overall. Nevertheless,, I would like to address two points about your commentary. First, there were eight additional dish/kitchen towels in the kitchen drawer with the garbage bags and wraps. When you said there were none, I assumed that a prior guest had inadvertently laundered them and taken them home with their own things. However, they are still in the drawer, washed, folded and ready for guest use. We'll point out their presence to guests in the future. Since you missed them, others may too. Second, we have reduced the furnishing of "kitchen staples" over the years and especially since COVID-19 as we have tried to minimize common-touch items. Generally, thirty years of rentals in Rhode Island and the Virgin Islands have taught us that most guests don't want to use opened food products such as oils, vinegars, ketchup, mustards, flour, sugar, etc. and have preferred to bring or buy locally the specific products that they use and like. I have also reduced the supply of dried spices but still leave basil, thyme, oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper as well as a few baking spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract. They take up little space and guests can use them, or not. Last year, we also added, for guest use, a cutting garden of fresh herbs including oregano, thyme, basil, tarragon, chives, parsley and mint with the thought that guests could harvest directly from nature a few staples for their cooking needs. Good afternoon, Jay and JoAnn, Thank you for your stay and for leaving the house in such tidy condition on your departure. We are always thankful for that consideration. I was happy to hear that you appreciated the history of the house, the beautiful views, the many updates and the quiet privacy of the property. However, considering the personal effort that we put into the maintenance of the property and service to our guests, it is very disheartening to receive such a low rating. Unfortunately, your booking of a property without air conditioning, an amenity that we do not advertise or ever imply, coincided with an unprecedented nationwide heat wave. The Vrbo site allows travelers to apply filters to find properties that include the amenities that are most important to them. Air Conditioning is one of the filters that you can select. I am also sorry that you had difficulty with the shower doors. They were tight, clean and rolling freely in their tracks when this season’s first guest arrived three weeks ago and have never been a problem in the past. We are having them checked tomorrow. I stress in the rental agreement, as well as in direct communications with all guests, that they should let us know if there is anything at the house that requires repair or maintenance so we can make things right for them immediately. I did not hear from you during your stay even though we had corresponded directly multiple times on questions you had about the property, the most recent on the day prior to your arrival. I hope that you find a house next year that is perfect for your family. Again, I encourage you to use the filters in the system when doing your search and to review carefully the amenity list that is part of every listing before you book. Sincerely, Barry

We are so pleased, Jason, that you and your family had an enjoyable visit to "Quitan" and that the focus of your activities was on the beach, the salt pond and all of the nature and wildlife that they offer. These are the same attributes that have been drawing leisure travelers, including our family, to our area for more than a century. Capt. Cascone was a wonderful find and we are already including his services in recommendations to our guests based upon your experience. While our listing and rental agreement, following the custom of local rental agents and cleaning services, do require guests to bring their own bed linens and towels, we do make an exception for travelers arriving in Rhode Island by air in which case, we furnish sheets, bath towels and beach towels, preparing those linens ourselves outside our contracted services. Hi Nancy, We're glad that you had a great and private week in spite of the unfortunate supermarket fall! We hope that your friend will have a speedy recovery. I'm sorry that you had trouble with the door lock. It is an old-style deadbolt lock that has kept our family secure since the 1930's.
