Great location with challenging circumstances

The (very kind) owner spoke no English, and we spoke little French. Finding the unit was very difficult because you can’t drive to the door, which we were not told. And then the unit # we were given did not correspond to the actual door, unnumbered, the next door down. Once we finally got in, there was a handwritten password and login info for the wifi which was IMPOSSIBLE to discern. There was no information about how anything in the house worked. The next morning, one of the toilets, which is more like a head on a boat, had some sort of leak. I think some foreign hosts might need more guidance about access and check in information and basics about American guests’ expectations. The house was buggy and did not feel particularly clean. It is very spacious with 3 bedrooms on multiple levels. Odd bathroom setup. A very charming back yard. And a very convenient, peaceful location in a fabulous provincial town.

Dirty, outdated apartment in excellent location

We originally booked this apartment because we were looking for a place in a central location with an outdoor space and enough room to house my family. Upon arriving, we found that the apartment was very dirty and the host's items were scattered around everywhere. There were no drawers or closet space to put our clothing and there was a layer of dust covering all surfaces. It seems that the host lives in the apartment most of the time and makes very little effort to make the place inhabitable to guests. In addition, the beds and pillows were uncomfortable, the toilet on the upper level was not secured to the floor, and the bathmat in the upper level bathroom made for a major slipping hazard. There was also an issue with the wifi - we were unable to use it for the first week and half because the router was shut off and then once it was turned on, we found that it didn't reach to the upper level bedrooms. The outdoor area was the only redeeming feature of the apartment and even that was lackluster. The comfier looking chairs clearly hadn't been touched in months and were covered in dirt and leaves. The remaining chairs (of which there were 4) were quite uncomfortable but it still was nice to be able to sit outside. With all these issues, the location is excellent. The apartment is in walking distance to great restaurants, markets, and all the other sights in Aix. This apartment should not be available for rent until it is cleaned and renovated.

Not at all as advertised

We only stayed one night at this location; we checked out on the second day due to unacceptable issues. The host was not at all communicative or responsive to our issues and concerns during our stay so we checked out after only one night and moved to a hotel. It appeared from the pictures on the app that it was a single level apartment. There are three flights of stairs. The app states there is parking included however we were unable to find parking and the host did not respond to our request for instructions. When we arrived, the back door to the property was open. There were dead bugs in the main bedroom on the bed and on the floor. The bed and pillows were flat and uncomfortable, like sleeping on the floor. There were personal effects throughout the apartment. The closet in the main bedroom was full of clothes and boxes. It appeared someone was living there with no regard that a guest (stranger) would be staying there. The app stated internet was included but the instructions for the Internet were on a whiteboard magnet on the refrigerator. The print was smudged and completely illegible. The host did not reply to our request for Internet access instructions. We tried every combination we could think of. I can’t really rate the location of the property because we did not end up staying there. I was very disappointed with the host and also VRBO customer service. We’ve stayed at many rentals around the world and this was the worst experience by far…and no one cares.

La location scandaleuse

Il est complètement anormal de louer un appartement dans cet état : - Très gros problèmes d'humidité qui propage une odeur dans l'appartement et surtout dans le linge de maison. - Très sale de manière générale sans compter les énormes auréoles liées à l'humidité de l'appartement. Poubelles non vidées. - Problèmes d'eau chaude. Salle de bains vétustes mal entretenues. - Problèmes de chauffage car les radiateurs fonctionnent mal et font du bruit. - Canapés défoncés - Table a mangé qui colle - Cuisine et vaisselle dégueullase - Hamam non fonctionnel et très sale - Jardin non entretenu et sale La location de cet appartement ne devrait pas être autorisé. Le seul côté positif de l'appartement est son emplacement dans Aix en Provence

Appartement en rez-de-jardin, au coeur du viel Aix, vieilles pierres et végétation foisonnante. L'ensemble est propre et agréable, bien équipé ; l'hôte est très sympathique et serviable. Attention toutefois, aux escaliers peu propices à une personne à faible mobilité. Beau sauna.
