About this property

The apartment is located on the top floor of a restored house on the upper edge of Alfama in the historic center of Lisbon and has been renovated in 2022. The spectacular view and the characteristic atmosphere of neighborhood are fascinating.
You have an view of what is happening in the streets, but also find absolute silence, if you desire. It's located on the third floor of the house and is supported by a traditional diagonal staircase, which in a straight line from the entrance to the house. The bottom two floors of the house are still in the period before the great earthquake of 1755 and was not destroyed by this. The upper two floors were built in the 19th Century. The flat is very centrally located and has all day sunshine (except, when it is cloudy ...)

Further Details: The apartment has a very central location in a historic building in the heart of the old city of Lisbon. It is well developed and is on the tram line No 28. The Monastery of Sao Vicente, the Castle Hill and the streets of Alfama are a few minutes away. Go on city tours of this place of rest and enjoy the panoramic view from every window. Or stay in the apartment and enjoy the special atmosphere and the high, bright rooms.

Strong musty, mildew odor

We loved this place at first, but had to leave after one night due to a strong musty, mildew odor. I am allergic to mildew, and I could not sleep because of the smell. The smell was strongest in the non-washable fabrics and some of the old furniture (see photos). The linens were fine, and the apartment was otherwise clean. We opened the windows to clear the air, but the apartment was already cold, so we had to sit in front of one of the plug-in portable heaters provided. When we spoke to the owner, who was out of the country, he claimed he’d never had complaints before, and Portugal is humid along the coast, and perhaps I should not visit Portugal in March if I was allergic to mildew. Fortunately for us, the next six places we stayed in Portugal had no problem at all, and we enjoyed the rest of our trip. Although we offered to pay for the one night (out of five), plus the cleaning fee, the owner gave us no refund, and VRBO did not support us, saying they needed proof (which, of course, is difficult with an odor). The owner asked my husband to call him directly, so we assumed he would offer a refund in exchange for us not leaving a bad review. However, when my husband suggested this, he accused my husband of bribery. We were very shaken by this unpleasant experience, and so cannot recommend this apartment.

Beautiful view of the city. Very clean, spacious and nicely decorated apartment. Be aware that there are 50 steps to the apartment, which can be difficult with heavy luggage. However, if that is not a problem for you, then the apartment is fantastic!

Charming apartment in great location

Wonderful charming clean apartment let’s you experience Lisbon and feel like a local. Yes there are very steep stairs and no air conditioning but it wasn’t important to us and a lovely view from the top floor. Helpful responsive host and Paula nearby is wonderful. We highly recommend. Ideal location to walk everywhere.

Great stay in Lisboa

Thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Very authentic neighbourhood. Got a great work out going up and down the steep stairwell and it s a cheap Uber ride from the airport. Everything you need is close by. You don't have to go far to find a grocery store, coffee shop, market, restaurant or tourist attraction. There was also lots going on in the city. Bring good walking shoes. The cobblestones are killers : ) Josef provided a great info sheet before we arrived and I personally really appreciated his willingness to accommodate our specific check in requests.

Great place in a great location

A charming clean apartment. The views are amazing from this apartment. It is well worth the walk up the stairs to get to the apartment. It helped walk off all the great food in Lisbon. There are lots of restaurants and bakery shops nearby. We were able to walk to all of the main tourist sights. Granted it is very hilly, but so nice to walk around in this beautiful city. The apartment has so much character with all the antiques and cheerful colors. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. There was a little street noise with the windows open, but it wasn't that bad. There was good WIFI connection. Good communication with the owner and quick responses. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.

Charming, cozy and centrally located!

Loved staying at this place! The panoramic views were stunning and MANY huge windows created a much-needed cross-breeze. Didn’t even miss the AC! (Note to light sleepers: the birds are quite active in the early morning. A white-noise app will do you wonders!) The location is great - lots of things to see in the area and a short walk to tons of others. Very close to grocery, multibanco atm, restaurants and shops. Paula, the neighbor and our contact, was very nice and helpful. Would stay here again and highly recommend!

Gorgeous view!!

The apartment is so cute. It’s defintely older and there are lots of stairs (as others have mentioned). But the views are incredible and there are lots of windows and balconies to enjoy the city and the breeze. What was surprising was how loud Alfama was at night (especially on the weekend). Locals told us it’s been changing in recent years with the influx of tourists :( The internet was spotty except next to the router (in the kitchen).

Lovely 3-bedroom apartment in a great area.

This is a terrific apartment, centrally located, with lovely furnishings and views. The caretaker was extremely helpful, even to the point of calling us a cab for an early morning flight. We'd go back in a flash, even with the 4 flights of stairs. Thank you!

Do not hesitate to rent this home. It is beautiful and in a wonderful location. It has everything needed to be comfortable. Its walkable to everywhere from the apartment. It always has a breeze running through it when you open windows. I love the view of the water, church and castle. The owner is helpful from beginning to the end. Fabulous stay

We had such a wonderful time. The layout is quirky but it added to the experience. The view was great and the place was very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were comfortable. The lady that helped us went above the call of duty. Thanks!

Really enjoyed our stay!

We found this apartment to be in an excellent location with a great view of the city. It was in easy walking distance to several sites and a block from Tram #28. There was a nearby grocery store and bakery. The apartment is in an older building, as it's in an older part of Lisbon, but that adds to it's character and charm. The apartment was clean and well maintained. Bring your own soap and shampoo. The stairs provided a workout when carrying a suitcase, but not a concern for us. Paula was very helpful with providing local information and arranging a 2am taxi to the airport for us. We would stay here again without hesitation.

LISSABON - gerne wieder!

Vielen Dank an Herrn Berwert für die vorab Infos und Hinweise per Mail, hätten uns aber für die Zeit vor Ort ein paar aktuelle Tipps zu Resto´s etc. gewünscht. Die Container für Restmüll gibt´s leider nicht mehr. Haben in der Lago Graca ein tolles und preiswertes Lokal entdeckt ("Jardim da Graca", hat leckeren Vinho verde) und die Erfahrung gemacht, daß die Tram 12, im Gegensatz zur 28, selten voll ist. Die Aussichtsplattform auf dem Tore Vasco da Gama auf dem Expo-Gelände ist, entgegen aller Reiseführer, seit 2004 geschlossen, dagegen sollte man das Oceanario auf keinen Fall verpassen. Empfehlenswert die CARRIS-Card für 24 Stunden a´ € 6,50, gilt für Metro, Tram, Bus und alle Aufzüge - kann man je nach Bedarf wieder aufladen. Die Tipps vom Vermieter bzgl. des Taxis vom Flughafen zur Wohnung waren sehr hilfreich (man muß allerdings zur Wartereihe der Taxis) . Vielen, vielen Dank auch an Paula, die uns den Weg zu einem Internetcafe beschrieben hat (mußten unsere Bordkarten noch ausdrucken) und uns für die Abreise ein Taxi bestellt hat. Es war ein toller Städteurlaub in einer wunderschönen Wohnung , Herr Berwert wir werden gern wiederkommen. Hanne und Helmut

Schöner Urlaub - tolle Ferienwohnung

Im August haben meine zwei Kolleginnen und ich eine Woche in Lissabon verbracht und wir waren mit der Wahl unserer Unterkunft sehr zufrieden :) Der Kontakt mit dem Vermieter war sehr freundlich und durch die vielen Hinweise, die er gegeben hat, fühlten wir uns auch gut vorbereitet. Wir empfehlen den Kauf einer Tageskarte. Sie kostet 3,70 € (+ 0,50€ für die wiederaufladbare Karte) und man kann damit Straßenbahnen (auch die 28), Busse und die Metro nutzen. Sogar im Santa Justa Elevator war unsere Karte gültig. Wenn man aus der Haustür kommt, geht man ein paar Meter nach unten und dann nach links, dort trifft man direkt auf eine Haltestelle der 28. Lissabon hat so viele Sehenswürdigkeiten zu bieten, dass ich hier nicht alle aufzählen will, dazu gibt's ja auch Reiseführer. Ich würde auf jeden Fall empfehlen, zum Mirador de Graca (einfach die Straße Travessa da monicas nach oben) zu gehen und die Aussicht zu genießen oder nach einem anstrengenden Sightseeing-Tag dort einfach mal auszuruhen und ein Getränk oder Snacks zu bestellen. Einen noch besseren Ausblick hat man vom Mirador Senhora do monte, dort gibt es aber nichts zu kaufen, Getränke sollte man also mitnehmen ;) Die Wohnung war genau wie hier beschrieben. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt und auch mehrmals abends gekocht. Etwas anstrengend waren die 50 Stufen von der Haus- bis zur Wohnungstür, aber wir haben das einfach sportlich genommen. Wer abends noch Energie zum Ausgehen hat, findet viele Möglichkeiten, angefangen von den vielen kleinen Restaurants in der Alfama - empfehlen können wir das Pateo 13 - bis hin zu den Fadolokalen oder man fährt einfach mit der 28 bis zum Bairro Alto. Ich werde diese Ferienwohnung sicher weiterempfehlen. Viel Spass in Lisboa :)

Grosses, gepflegtes Apartment in top Lage

Wir verbrachten 4 Nächte in diesem Apartment. Die Lage ist absolut top. Mit Sicht über die Dächer und auf den Tejo. Mit der U-Bahn und den historischen Tramlinien Nr. 12 und 28 kann das Apartment gut erreicht werden. Es hat viele Restaurants in der Nähe. Das Apartment selber ist sehr sauber und bietet viel Platz. Die Fenster sind gut isoliert und man lebt deshalb sehr ruhig. Die Infrastruktur ist in sehr gutem Zustand.

Wonderful stay!

This is a delightful apartment in every way: full of light from its many windows; period furniture; polished wood floors; and immaculately clean. Well equipped kitchen for cooking and dining. There are excellent views from every vantage point, especially from the delightful balcony just big enough for three. We were on the balcony as often as possible for lunches and apéro time, feasting on the views over the castle hill, the winding streets of Graça and the river Tejo as much or more than on our delicious food and wine. One of our greatest delights was watching the swooping and darting of the swallows as they fed in early morning and at sunset. Communication with the owner and the local manager, Paula, was excellent and immediate, with comprehensive instructions provided for arrival and departure, as well as for every part of our stay, and for the very few times we had questions. We really enjoyed the Graça neighbourhood, with all needed amenities, and many restaurants, cafés and major points of interest within easy walking distance, as long as you can negotiate hilly terrain. As has been noted by the owner, there are 50 stairs, which does require a reasonable level of fitness and mobility. We are far from young and enjoy walking, so did not find this a drawback. We really hope to return!
