We had high hopes for this beautiful home but sad to share that our stay was disappointingly subpar. First, upon arrival, we discovered there were garden snakes in the backyard occupying the same space we would be using. This impacted our party’s ability to be outside, esp because we had kids who were infants, toddlers, preschool age, elementary school age. If we had known of the snakes, we would not have rented. Next, the water septic tank alarm went off on the second morning we were there. We were instructed not to shower for the remainder of our stay because it was a Sunday and they were not calling someone to empty it. First of all, due to the snake problem, we didn’t do bonfire or swim and thus our party did not need to shower the evening we arrived. This means that each of us would have only showered once since our stay. Secondly, if their septic tank cannot handle the regular water use of 29 people, they should not have advertised as such. It’s hard for us to believe we used that amount of water to trigger the alarm, esp bc we had only been there one full day and two nights (we had spent that full day out sightseeing). Some in our party had a bonfire on our last night and went to bed smelling of the campfire smoke. We suspect due to Covid19, the house was not well inspected or cared for, including lack of emptying the septic tank. Moreover, the owners were three different people handling three different areas, making it hard for us to get straight answers. Abbey was one of these persons. When I expressed my concerns, Abbey was polite but failed to satisfactorily address my concerns. Kurt, who we talked to while at the house, said he didn't know about the snakes and was the one instructing us not to shower. Third, wi-fi is very poor. This was part of the frustration with the issues at the house. We could not communicate with the owners thoroughly due to dropped signals. Lastly, this is a late review because we were waiting for our security deposit refund to clear. It just cleared today. In fact, almost 2 weeks after our stay, I had to contact Abbey to inquire about the sec dep refund, at which point it was processed. I understand the challenges with Covid19 but this is ridiculous! We were not compensated for any of these inconveniences even when we asked. We don’t want renters to have the same surprises that we did so we are sharing our experiences here.
