Why Bill Nast chose Pilot Knob
Our Grandparents built this house on beautiful Lake George. As the story goes, Alexander and Belle came up from New York City in the late 20’s and rented a summer cottage on Diamond Point. They decided to explore the yet undeveloped east side of the lake by row boat. While on the water, a storm blew-in and this beach was the only place they could pull the boat to land. They loved what they found and inquired of its availability. It just so happened that this area of the lake was a land grant from King George III to the Oakley Estate (locals who favored the King) with the stipulation from the King that the tall pine trees remain available to the crown for ship masts. Alexander and Belle purchased the property but had to wait a few years for a dirt road to be cut along the shore (Pilot Knob Rd) for access. With the help of his brother-in-law Judd, who was an engineer by trade, they built the original cottage. In the late 1960’s, as the family continued to grow, the main cottage had a major renovation and the second cottage was built. Alexander was a prolific painter who’s works you’ll enjoy throughout the house. His daughter painted his portrait that hangs on the porch. Four generations have grown up here with lasting memories. Our grandparents had a dream, to create a gift on Lake George for their family to enjoy for generations. We hope by sharing this dream with you, you will come to appreciate all the beauty that is Lake George.

This was everything I imagined (and hoped) a lake house should be: kitschy, yet updated.
You know how these days, if something meets your expectations, you're satisfied? Well, imagine our delight when something far exceeded our expectations! This house and property were everything we hoped for and more. Funky and "lake housey" yet spotless and updated. We were 7 adults, so there were a lot of moving parts to this adventure, and it fell into place perfectly. The house's proximity to Pilot Knob, Lake George Village and the Throughway were all bonuses. As a city girl, I haven't seen that many stars since Girl Scout camp 50 years ago! We never needed to communicate with the host the entire time, because everything was perfectly in place. Thank you, Mr. Nast, for sharing your home to a newly bonded family.
Wonderful property and owner
I have rented maybe a dozen vrbo properties over the years and this property was the best, most well appointed of them all. An impressive array of yard furniture, grill and sport equipment, sandy waterfront access, extraordinary kitchen supplies, spices, etc. (every time I looked around the house for something, I found it) and spot on communication from the owner made this an excellent long weekend for my friends and I. I highly recommend this rental and I will be returning for certain.
Another happy LG vacation
My family of 6 stayed here for a week in September 2017. We all loved it regardless some rainy days. Great location, very clean, beach, fishing, etc. We'll definitely come back.
Great location, beautiful views!
We loved our stay at this property. The house is comfortable and clean, and the property accommodated our family perfectly (4 adults, 2 teenagers, 1 child). The views of the lake are spectacular and the swimming is wonderful. We enjoyed being right on the lake from sunrise to sunset -- kayaking, fishing, boating, swimming, eating outside and sitting by the campfire at night. The gentle slope into the water was perfect for my youngest to swim and splash around, and the lake bottom was sandy.
As the pictures show, the kitchen and bathrooms are updated. We enjoyed preparing meals in the clean and well-stocked kitchen. It's a great location on the southern part of the lake. The property is very private and quiet and an easy ride into Lake George Village. Our stay was exactly as we'd hoped...very relaxing!
The homeowner was extremely helpful. We hope to return!
A gem of a spot on Lake George...
This was our 7th summer at the Nast home. It keeps getting better and better. If you want all that a lake house has to offer, this is it! Great location, lots of sunshine, sandy beach into the water and no steps down to the lake!!
Thanks, Bill for sharing your home with us!
Well preserved piece of history on the most beautiful lake in the country.
The lake house and cottage were perfect for a weekend with friends and family.
We really our time this turn of the century camp.
Its been updated tastefully, where necessary, but maintains its historical charm.
The kitchen an bathrooms are all newly renovated while staying true to the original decor.
The beds are very comfortable, especially in the guest house were we stayed.
If you have young kids, its great, the beach is perfect size, and shallow with a sandy bottom so they can venture out with confidence.
Paddle around the corner through the islands and enjoy nature. We saw loons, and ducks and caught lots of sun fish, which the boys loved.
If you go, id recommend just chillin. enjoying your company and the lake.
We also did the Pilot knob hike on fathers day. That was a nice highlight as well.
Short steep hike with a good payoff.
Be sure to bring snacks and bug spray.
Overall i would definitely recommend Bills home.
Its quiet, serene and beautiful.
Great place to get away.
Located on the south eastern side of the lake, the property is only 15 min by boat to Lake George Village or the Sagamore hotel. Easy access to hiking within 2 miles. Katskill Bay is great for water skiing and Sandy Bay is perfect for anchoring with other boats. 4 marinas/fishing supplies located within 5 miles. General Store 3 miles.
