About Mimi Johnson-Jacobs

I am a retired lawyer and my husband is a retired teacher. We live in the E. Bay Area of Northern California and get down to Mexico about twice a year.

Mimi Johnson-Jacobs purchased this villa in 2005

Why Mimi Johnson-Jacobs chose Ajijic

My husband and I visited Ajijic for 4 days in the summer of 2005. Before we left, we bought this house! It was the most impulsive thing we had ever done, especially since we were not planning to move to Mexico. However, we love having a home in the magical little town of Ajijic. And now that we are sharing it with our guests, it makes sense to keep it.

What makes this villa unique

For me it's all about the tranquility. We have the mountains in back of us, the lake down below, and tropical birds splashing in the fountain in front of the terraza. I'm a golfer so I play at Chula Vista just about every day when we're there. My husband is a computer guy so he spends most of his days online. But we eat out most nights -- so that is our together time. Also we're both readers so we bring a stack of books and magazines and catch up on our reading in Ajijic.

Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Mimi's Ajijic home is absolutely stunning! This is our third visit and again no regrets. We invited two friends to stay with us who also very much enjoyed their stay. The staff is wonderful and helpful. The property is very spacious, nicely decorated, and has a lovely garden/pool area. Lots of songbirds !

Through Veronica, Mimi's property manager, we hired a cook (Consuelo) to prepare our breakfasts and a driver (Dago) to take us to Herradura Tequila (Amatitan) for a private tour and to Zapopan for a late lunch at one of my favorite restaurants .

Truly we had a great time relaxing and enjoying Mimi's home!

Many thanks Mimi!!!

Owner's Response: Gracias y Delia y José. Nos encanta tenerte como nuestros huéspedes cada año. Tuve una cancelación en octubre, así que ahora tengo que ir por 9 días. Voy a contratar a Consuelo para que cocine. Aprecio tan su amistad sobre los años. Besos y abrazos, Mimi JJ

Beautiful property and views in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The house is truly beautiful, large and tastefully furnished. It was perfect for us to have what are essentially two master suites. The various terraces were perfect for beginning and ending your days. There are mosquitoes, but they didn't seem to bother us. The birds and foliage were great to enjoy. We all slept comfortably except for a couple of nights dogs barked way too much. Veronica was very helpful arranging transportation to and from the airport in Guadalajara which is on average a 45" drive. We were a little surprised by the traffic from Guadalajara coming into Ajijic on Sat. and leaving on Ajijic on Sunday! We enjoyed the house, the scenery, the weather and the people! Thank you for sharing your home, Mimi!

Owner's Response: Hi Ellen, Just saw your review and, as always, I will share it with the staff. Thank you for the kind words and for being our guests. However, I can't let you mislead our future visitors into thinking that mosquitoes in Ajijic are friendlier than in other places! At least I don't find that to be the case and take my repellent with me everywhere in the world. But, it good to hear that Ajijic's little pests left you alone. Please plan to visit them, and us, again in 2018. Mimi JJ

Absolutely fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just returned from an 8 day stay at Casa Mimi. The pictures cannot even describe this wonderful house. As soon as we walked through the front door our stress level seemed to dropped to zero. We knew right then it was going to be a great vacation. Through the week we caught ourselves looking at each other in amazement at how beautiful, calm and peaceful it was here. The grounds were kept immaculate every day by Juan and his wife Rachael. Monika, the housekeeper, kept the house spotless. The pool was also maintained. Many thanks to Veronica and Antonio for all their help too!

We brought some blowup air floats with us.They proved to be a great addition for added reading and relaxing while in the pool.

Ajijic is a magical little town! We rented a car from Mimi and went to breakfast and dinner a few times. We also enjoyed just being at the house and cooked a few meals there as well. There is a Walmart a few miles away so we made a few trips to stock up on things.

I could go on and on but, This place is a must stay place!!

We loved it! We will for sure be back!

Thank you Mimi and your staff for a fabulous 30th Wedding Anniversary Celebration!

Owner's Response: Dear Dave and Lynne, We are always so honored when guests choose to celebrate special occasions at Rio Nazas #34. Thirty years is no drop in the bucket! Here's wishing you many more wonderful years together. On another note, Monika, Juan and Rachael asked me to thank you for your generous show of appreciation, and they asked when you are coming back. What shall I tell them? Please check out our calendar and find a time to return and I will pass along the information. Muchas gracias. Mimi JJ

This home is a gem. The pictures and description do not do it justice. Mimi is great, very responsive to any concerns or issues. Monica the housekeeper, keeps everything nice. We could not have asked for anything more. We highly recommend this home .

Owner's Response: Hi Alice, You and Bill got good reviews as well. LOL. I always ask our Mexico staff to rate our guests and you guys got a "thumbs up." Good luck in continuing to explore retirement options around the world. We look forward to having you visit us again in the not-too-distant future. Best, Mimi JJ

Two more happy campers behind the doors of no.34!

  • 5 of 5

Mimi's reviews are getting a bit boring as everybody raves about this little haven on Rio Nazas. Sorry folks, we join the list of boring! We have just returned from 5 splendid weeks @ no. 34. We have been home but a few hours and already miss our cheeping birdies, the butterflies, flowers and of course the beautiful views. We covered the pool every evening which got the temperature up such that even my husband was swimming each day and he hates cool water. One thing we could add for future visitors is the taxi situation. For those of you who don't want to rent a car and do walk abouts, taxis are not abundant. After 8.30pm almost non existent. We went to the taxi stand at the plaza and "adopted" a driver. Called only him and even when he was not available, he would organize one of his colleagues to collect us. This worked but pick up time had to be preplanned. Local buses were 7 pesos and lots of fun but do not be in a hurry to go anywhere. Still haven't figured out what schedule they run to but do take you anywhere along the caraterra. One disappointing thing is that we cannot go back next year, not out of choice but the house was booked for 2018 and we lost our "slot" however we hope to get the opportunity to be one of Mimi's "regulars" in the not too distant future. In the meantime, to all future visitors, you will not be disappointed with this holiday treat. Many thanks Mimi. Until the next time!

Owner's Response: Hi Alison, I consulted the Rio Nazas staff and they want you to become one of our "regulars" so let's get to work on it. Thank you for your kind review. I'll be in touch. Best, Mimi JJ

Other Activities: Shopping, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Health/Beauty Spa

Golf: There are 2 great golf courses near the house. The first is Chula Vista, a small, visually stunning nine hole course with no electric carts. The caddies, some of them English-speaking are wonderful and knowledgeable. Most golfers play this course twice. Chula Vista is about 3 miles from the house.

The Chapala Country Club also has a nine hole course, providing an 18 hole option. This course is longer than the course at Chula Vista and and has electric carts. It is a lovely place to play, about 20 minutes from the house.

There are also several world class courses in Mexico, several of which are in Guadalajara. Guadalajara is 45 - 60 minutes away from Rio Nazas #34.
