Property type condo
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Paradise found! there are 18 ocean view condos. The condo and location are perfect for vacationers that want peace and security where they live, but be within easy reach of Tamarindo or Flamingo, and Playa Grande. We have 5 of the most Beautiful Beaches in Costa Rica, for Swimming, Snorkeling, Surfing, Hiking, Fishing, Horse Back Tours, ATV Tours, Jet Sky in the Ocean and much more. Walk the beach to Playa Conchal or one of the Trails . This area is known as the Gold Coast because of the exceptional beaches and climate. In the mornings you drink the best coffee and be able to see humming birds doing aerobatics within as few feet.

Golf courses are near by. and the ocean is calm. A cell phone is included with your condo rental. There is only one time of year that we think is not good for a vacation and that is late September through October or early November. The best time is Late November and December and June through August, although December through May is also excellent. We have found many wonderful and beautiful things here and are willing to share those adventures and places with you. There is so much more then the Hotel property to see and do. Costa Rica is a special place come and see for yourself.

Surfing: Most surfers go to Tamarindo or Playa Grande thinking it is the best place and sometimes the surf is good but there are many other not so well known breaks that offer exceptional surf without the big crowds. With every break here, the tide, wind and weather do effect the waves a great deal. If you are a new surfer there are places where the waves are gentler. The experience of surfing a great wave with no one else around for hours at a time because you have knowledge and access others do not.

Fishing: A all day fishing charter can be $700 to $1200 with no guarantee of catching a big fish. . We catch hard fighting Rooster Fish, Jacks, Snook, and more and these can be as large as 50 pounds and more. Catching a large fighting fish in a Kayak is something special, and our guide is very professional providing all the equipment. If you like fishing this might be the way to go.

About Linda Gebauer/John Gebauer

We moved to Costa Rica in 2005. We bought the condo because of the unique location and the wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean, Flamingo and the Bay. We spent seven wonderful years exploring and adventuring. We love the peace and tranquility we found where we lived. We were close enough to the cities of Tamarind and, Flamingo to be able to get there easily but we did also have the enjoyment of being able to find pristeen beaches without a crowd of people very close to our home. We seldom went out to eat since we had a great kitchen in the condo and we enjoyed cooking our own fresh fish. I lost weight and became very fit by surfing, walking the beaches and mountains around us every day. We see monkies and other wildlife as we went about our life. There is a saying that we found to be true, Pura Vida, the pure life. We returned to the US in 2012 due to business.

Why Linda Gebauer/John Gebauer chose Cantón Santa Cruz

This was our home and it was and is special because of its location, not in the city but close. The Costa Rica we dream about not the all inclusive resorts, or the surfer towns. The view the wild life and the ability to get away from all the stress of work with the modern convienences we all need.

What makes this condo unique

The uniqueness of this property is its beauity, closeness to the great beaches, and the privacy if you so desire. You can go anywhere or do anything without traveling very far. Nature abounds, we have seen foxes, several large cats, deer, monkies, turtles, pesoti, and whales, and much more right near our condo.

Not a good place to stay if you want to travel to see the country

  • 2 of 5

The Condor Heights Condo had a beautiful view. But for people who want to travel around and see Costa Rica it is not a very good place to stay. It is at least 20 minutes to any real civilization, and most of that drive is on unpaved dirt roads. An added assault to your back is on the drive up to the condo where there are massive pot holes. The beach road is also a dirt road and the beach, while beautiful, has no amenities. As to the condo, the air conditioning leaked water into our closet and the television did not work for the first 5 days of our visit. The dishwasher was very difficult to start. A chair at the table was broken and with 4 of us staying there and only 3 chairs it was an uncomfortable dining experience. Finally the kitchen was sparsely equipped. We had to buy more glasses. There was no shampoo. The pool was very nice but the chaise lounges were very hard and there were no cushions.

Lovely apartment in great location

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at Condor Lodge. Our apartment was beautifully clean and well equipped. Only reason for not giving five stars is that the restaurant was closed for a few days on our arrival due to refurbishment but then we did arrive at the end of the off peak season so this was understandable.

Great bird and monkey watching from our balcony and lovely walks to nearby beaches.

The road had been newly surfaced so the bad potholes we were expecting had disappeared. Only hazard was negotiating a herd of cows who'd gone to sleep in the middle of the road when we returned late one night!

OK not great

  • 3 of 5

I will start by saying 4x4 recommended really bad roads to get there or sand trap if you want to take beach road. The condo it self had a beautiful view of Playa Conchal. We had booked this month's ago and they should have expected our arrival.Fresh linens not the ones that were put on months ago, and a fresh cleaning not from the last time it was used.Someone should of cleaned the bird droppings off the porch so we could have better enjoyed the view. There sould be some new

deck furniture as well chairs are very bet up. Toilet in the master didn't flush nor was there hot water in that shower, so we could of called it a one bath.As for the kitchen lots of hot water there but the pots and pans are well used Teflon peeling off? and very cheap cutlery not even a steak knife. There are 2 old CRT Tvs only the one in the living room on satelite. Don't get the point of the one in bedroom? The price was good being the off season but in prime time they need to make some investment to up grade some thing to rent for top dollar.

Good location good amenities

  • 3 of 5

Location is great .10 min walking and you are on a isolated beach . Apartment's amenities were good(Well equipped kitchen ,air condition , washing machine + dryer, pool) besides few problems : Didn't have hot water in the first day (have to take shower in other department), internet was very slow and disconnected from time to time . Took a while to figure out the password for the WiFi .Owners of the house were out (abroad) so I had to look for local attractions by myself . I had to call them to US since no one was helping me

Amazing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent the week in this condo and from the moment we got there we knew it would be a great stay. John (the owner) greeted us in town and made sure we found our way. His wife Linda greeted us at the door armed with a warm smile and lots of information about what to do in the area. The condo itself is beautiful and cozy with a fantastic view of the beach. The kitchen is fully stocked, has clean drinking water, and Linda even provided us with organic costa rican coffee. There are at least 4 different beaches in the immediate vicintity each offering a unique experience. Great snorkeling, egg laying giant sea turtles, fishing (we caught so many we had to give some away), and horse back riding. We enjoyed all of these immensley. Most importantly, John and Linda were ever gracious hosts and available at any time to answer questions and give advice. They even gave us a cell phone to use! Overall it was a fantastic vacation and we can't recommend it enough. Much better than any hotel in the area!

Great condo, close to great beaches, great hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed John and Linda's rental condo just last week.

Condo - The condo itself is extremely comfortable and I felt that it was a good value. The beds, the furnishings, the decor, all great. It was a nice treat to have AC at the beach too, not something that you find everywhere in Costa Rica. We prepared most of our meals at the condo and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. We found one item that we would have liked to have, asked John and Linda about it and the next day they brought it to us! There is cable TV, wireless internet, lovely patio furniture to enjoy the great view, even a grill, blankets, beach towels....The hosts were also very generous with toiletries, laundry soap, etc. They even supplied bottle water,

Area - The condos are a little off the beaten path and I can't imagine you could enjoy a stay here without a car. We didn't have a 4x4 though and managed fine. The condo is about a 10 min walk to playa conchal (lovely) but we drove anyway just to be able to take beach toys, mats, snacks, water, etc. We explored a different beach each day. Most were pretty much deserted and very lovely. You have a lot of beaches within 10 minutes. This is definitely not an area filled with parties, action and activity. But if you want to relax and enjoy rural Costa Rica, it's perfect! That said, there is a grocery store about 10-15 min from the condo and you can get what you need there or better, bring it from San Jose. We saw howler monkies along the road and heard them daily. We only went out to eat once so I can't really speak to the restaurants in the area.

Hosts - John and Linda really were kind and helpful. They can offer you as much or as little information about the area as needed. They have lived there for 6 years and really know a lot. They treated all of us very kindly and we truly appreciated it. We felt like guests more than customers. My only real suggestion is that leaving a book with some of their knowledge, maps, suggestions would be a great benefit to the condo.

I am happy to answer specific questions from a renter/tourist perspective if you have any:

Owner's Response: We have been blessed with many great renters which makes our job so easy. We are glad to receive advice from our guests which help us make the condo more inviting for future renters. This is a place to decelerate from a busy lifestyle and we love to see the relaxed faces on our guests' faces after they are here a few days. Pura Vida, Linda/John Gebauer
