Location is good, apartment is in bad shape

We had to end our stay early at this VRBO. Upon arrival the linens had been changed, but aside from that, it did not appear to be cleaned recently. Everything was covered in dust, walls are very dirty/scuffed, there was dried food on the top of the garbage can and tons of fruit flies in the kitchen, the rugs are all very stained, there was a ton of mildew in the shower. It’s just in rough shape. The A/C in living room makes a loud rattling noise every 30mins or so even when it’s not on. And lastly, it smelled of smoke when we woke up the first night. Perhaps a neighbor smokes and it filters into the apt being on the 1st floor. The check in process was fine (however, I had to ask the host for the instructions multiple times), and location of the apartment is good if you want to be near fun restaurants/bars.
