Situated in a private setting on Lake George, this house has beautiful wood and stone architectural features, numerous decks with pristine views and plenty of living space. We enjoyed the nearby private beach and large outdoor gas grill. The main deck is nicely furnished for dining and lounging.
There’s a flat screen smart TV in the great room and one in the bunk room, and the WiFi works well. New sets of washing machines and dryers are located in the upstairs master bath and the basement.
Overall, the photos provide an accurate depiction of the house and surrounding property, but it might have been helpful if we’d known the following:
--The main deck does not have screens between the balcony rails as shown in a couple of the photos. The screen has been removed—and it’s a long way to the bottom—so the deck is not safe for young children.
--The house has two large master bedrooms with King beds and private bathrooms. One is upstairs, and the other is downstairs, along with two smaller bedrooms (with queen beds) and a “bunk room.” The bunk room is most likely a recreation room that was converted into another bedroom to accommodate more renters. It has four sets of bunkbeds, but lacks privacy, because there are no doors on its large entryway. It shares a bathroom with the two queen bedrooms, so (excluding the master bedroom) if all downstairs beds are occupied, 10 - 12 people share one bathroom. The bathroom has a hot tub, a private toilet, shower and granite vanity with double sinks, but there is only one hook for a towel. (There is another half bath upstairs.)
--All bedrooms face east, and the only rooms with window treatments (vertical blinds) are the two queen bedrooms.
--The home is showing signs of neglect and wear that we did not expect to see for the price per night: stains on the carpet; dirty windows, a shower with moldy grout. Most of the beds and bedding are okay, but many of the pillows are yellow, and nearly all of the bath and kitchen towels need to be replaced. (The towels in the hot tub bathroom are extremely thin and frayed.)
-- The kitchen pantry and cabinets need decluttering, and the refrigerator and ovens need cleaning. The coffee pot—a Mr. Coffee unit—didn’t work. The refrigerator is a Sub Zero, but the icemaker is broken. (The owner was kind enough to supply us with a bag of ice.)
--There is a cleaning fee, so we were surprised to learn that we were expected to wash and dry the sheets and towels.
