Really enjoyed the place, very clean and lots of activity options for my wife and our four kids. My parents have a cabin near Chain Lake so the location was great also.
Definitely recommend!
Our family vacation turned into a wedding celebration. Rob, the host, allowed us to have a small wedding ceremony on the property, it was PERFECT!Thank you so much for allowing us to celebrate such a special time with our family & friends!

We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay and had the first wedding at our location! Years of happiness to you and your family!
It was a perfect vacation getaway. The beach was in great shape but the lake had a lot of seaweed at the end of the deck. The homeowner was very interactive when we had a small issue, had someone there in minutes to fix it
We enjoyed our stay very much. However, there were a couple small items such as a can opener that wasn’t available. And some plastic ware would be nice for leftovers. But we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Thanks so much for the feedback. We do provide a limited supply of ziplock bags and can add a few more. There is a manual can opener in the utensils drawer but an electric one is a great idea. Hope you will visit again!
Love staying here. The lake is clean and not too deep where they are located. The kids loved playing on the beach and kayaking. Communication with the owner has always been quick and accommodating. Super clean and homey.
Beautiful lake house on a quiet lake. Property was outstanding. Home was very clean with plenty room. Kayaks and fishing was so enjoyable on the lake. Just a great relaxing time with the family.
This property is spacious and very well equipped. They thought of everything we needed for a 3 night stay of 7 adults. quiet lake, spacious, fun, clean, updated, and pet friendly. Just bring your clothes and food. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.
This property was incredibly clean and well stocked. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought into what could make the stay most enjoyable. We had a group of 10 and felt like we had ample space, especially for sleeping. The lake and neighborhood are pretty quiet, which was great. The owner was very easy to communicate with.
I hate to leave a good review because I don’t want the secret to get out. This place was everything I was looking for and then some. We had the BEST time! I will definitely book again here. Thank you to the hosts!!
This is our second year at Loon Rising. Everything was great yet again! We had some unforseen family complications that impacted our trip, and Robert was so very understanding and worked with us on some last minute trip changes. I can't thank you enough! The only thing I have to suggest, add some new markers, we used pen to update the vacation wall!! Hopefully we will be back again some day!

Thanks for the feedback and we’ll be sure to get some new markers!
We had such a great time at Loonrising! The property has tons of space, beds, and recreational activities like Kayaking and fishing. The lake is perfect for a family vacation. Robert went out of his way to make our stay just as we’d hoped. Even the neighbors were welcoming. Would love to come back! Thank you SO much!
Nice place right on the lake with a yard, nice fire pit area, and a sandy beach. We used the kayaks all day everyday exploring the lake. The house had everything we needed and plenty of room for our large group to spread out.
Our only complaint was the fridge was on the fritz and we lost a lot of meat and cheese but the owner was responsive and tried to get it fixed right away.
The home is lovely and as portrayed! It is spacious and the 7 of us (5 children) had plenty of room! We would have reserved for next summer but unfortunately the availability conflicts with schedules.
The lake is very pretty and nice for young children! Beautiful morning sunrises! Thank you!
Super easy check in, house was clean, loved using the canoe and 4 kayaks. Some of the neighbors (3 houses away) were very loud, but some of that is to be expected on a holiday weekend. Overall, a very good experience.
My family and I had a great time and enjoyed all the amenities the property had to offer. This was only my 2nd time using a rental property and if they all go as well as this one I will certainly be more inclined in the future.
Loon Rising is a great place if you need somewhere to stay in the area that has many extras like home that a hotel cannot offer.
We had fun exploring the area as well taking in West Branch, and a day trip over to the pier on Lake Huron.
This was an incredible week to connect with our growing family. Clean, comfortable & spacious home. Plenty of activities to do both at the lake and in the surrounding area. We didn’t need to contact the owners during our stay because there was no reason to. Communication both before our arrival and at check out was met with a prompt reply. Highly recommend!!
House nice size, good beach and firepit area, nice neighbors, patios nice, quiet area, need pots and pans and basement was chilly....does say pet friendly, there was a $200 dog fee that doesnt show in listing
The open area kitchen livingroom made it spacious. There was plenty of sitting in the living room and family room. Because we were visiting family at the lake we never ate a meal there other than breakfast, so we never all sat down in the kitchen together. The view is amazing, lake front property is perfect for everyone especially kids to play in the sand, sand toys provided. The kayaks and canoe were great. Be sure to go left around the little island to see the turtles and fish. Lots of sleeping spaces and extra blankets and towels.
We stayed here for a week. The goal was to unplug and disconnect. This property delivered. Gorgeous home, great yard for dog, friendly neighbors, fun kayaks, and peaceful property. Not much around to do but that’s what we wanted. Can’t say enough how lovely it was. As an FYI, if you love to cook, bring some pots/pans as the selection was limited. Everything else was perfection. Will be back!

Thanks for the feedback! New for the 2025 season is an additional pots and pans set. Glad you enjoyed your visit!
Our family had an amazing little vacation. The house was very clean and plenty of seating for everyone. Loved that we could bring the dogs too (for an extra charge). The teens loved fishing from the dock and kayaking. They had the basement to themselves which gave my husband and I some privacy for napping. The sandy beach was a great touch. The dogs loved splashing in the water and chilling on the sand. We used the fire pit often to make s’mores and the grill for burgers. There was a snafu with the keypad to get in but the owner was very quick to respond and the problem was solved. Overall we loved our stay and would recommend staying on Jose Lake (pronounced Joe’s Lake).
We stayed a few days at this lake house and had a really nice time. The house was clean and well maintained. I was there with my wife, 2 girls (9 & 11) and my in-laws. We were supplied with everything we needed for the house and the lake. There was only a charcoal grill (no gas grill), so be sure to pack accordingly. There was a very small party store nearby that had some essentials if needed. We do not recommend the pizza. The only downside, which is not a reflection of the rental house, was that there were no restaurants that were close. You’ll have to take a short drive to find anything. The place had beautiful views and a good size lake to swim, boat, kayak etc. we would visit again!
Everything was great, no complaints. My only suggestion would be to place curtains on doors since both upstairs and downstairs main areas are also sleeping areas. 6am, it was very bright in the rooms. The rest of the windows are covered, just not the doors.
As stated by another review, cooking supplies are limited. If you plan on doing lots of in home meals, keep that in mind.
Beds were comfortable, more than enough room for a large family to spread out. If you are there for a week, bring extra TP/paper towels/garbage bags. You don't need bath towls, but I would suggest to bring beach towels. The beach towels supplied are bath towels size.
My favorite part was the wall of past renters. Super cute idea and loved seeing where everyone was from.
I would reccommended this rental and have no hesitations about going back!

About the host

Originally from Grand Blanc, MI, I grew up spending summers on Jose Lake. I am now a full time collegiate music educator living in Columbus, OH.
Why they chose this property
I was fortunate enough to purchase this property from a long time family friend, in 2018. My family has had a place on/near Jose Lake since the 1955 and for generations we have loved spending time on the lake. When this property came up, my wife and I jumped at the chance. Originally from Michigan, my wife and I now teach at THE university in Columbus, OH and love to use this place as a getaway from time to time.
What makes this property unique
New build, spacious, lake view and access on all-sports lake. The lake is the perfect size for vacations, just big enough to enjoy boating, jet skis, fishing, kayaking and more but small enough to avoid big crowds. The lake never gets as busy or loud as nearby lakes.
