About Sarah Haynes

Originally from the landlocked state of Tennessee, we vacationed in the Virgin Islands every year from 1994 onward. Our kids fell in love with the location and continued to make new friends every trip. Our eldest daughter, Sarah moved here in 2004 and continued her career in Real Estate sales. She likes to say we were her 'worst customers ever' because our standards were so high (we wanted waterfront, pool, walking to beach, masonry). But we did finally find our dream come true in Villa Tryst on the beautiful north-side of St. Thomas. We find the location to be perfect for exploring all of the beauty of the VI but most of all we love gathering with family, cooking a dinner of fresh fish (often bought in Hull Bay) and watching the best sunsets in the world. It doesn't get any better than this. We are happy to share our island jewel with you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to tell us about your island adventures.

Sarah Haynes purchased this villa in 2007

Why Sarah Haynes chose Estate Hull

On family vacations we rented villas all throughout the Virgin Islands from St. John to St. Croix. Though we believe each of the islands has its personal charm, the north-side of St. Thomas is clearly the diamond in the rough we were looking for. The convenience of being able to be in your private pool at your villa within 15 minutes after arrival (with no barge trip) allows for even a long weekend trip to be relaxing. We love the active beach of Hull Bay in that there are always activities to observe from fisherman going out early in the morning to divers swirling with their green lights after dark. The historically French neighborhood surrounding the villa is welcoming yet not at all touristy. You will know as soon as you enter the Hull Bay Hideaway that this is a local’s sort of hang-out. The world-class restaurants of Frenchtown and Charlotte Amalie along with the duty free shopping on Main Street or Yacht Haven Grande are a short drive away. Every visit we seem to discover something new we love about the Virgin Islands.

What makes this villa unique

Honestly, if you didn't want to, you would never have to leave Villa Tryst. It has everything you need for a great vacation. Take a morning dip in the pool, an afternoon snorkel in Hull Bay below and then come back for sunset mango concoctions on the porch. The house is perfectly situated to watch the activity on the beach, the islands in the distance and the yachts that cruise by. We have a collection of board games, books and movies to keep you entertained if perchance you get a late afternoon shower. And don't forget naps with the waves crashing below! If there is something you need for your trip, just ask us, it is likely we have it! We can even have your villa stocked with groceries of your choosing prior to your arrival.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much for the wonderful time. This house is AMAZING! Hopefully we can come back and enjoy this beautiful island from this most spectacular setting ever.

A perfect gem in Hull bay!!! Villa Tryst is an absolutely breathtaking home, with terrific views. Tryst is the most romantic and lovely villa we have ever had the pleasure of vacationing at. Its huge!!!! Conveniently it's located just right across the way from Hull bay Hideaway, it was the coolest beach bar and grill where we had delicious fish tacos after a long day, but never mind eating out, Tryst has a large accommodating kitchen with everything and then some I needed to cook for and serve my family. My husband would hardly come indoors, terrific balcony with killer views. I slept like a babe and hearing the waves crash from my bedroom was the most soothing lullaby. This place is perfect and our first trip to the USVI was fantastic. Kim was great, we appreciate all her suggestions for places to shop, dine, eat, and

play. So glad we took her advice down from our car rental to our itinerary. Heaven is a place on Earth.

Island life is great!!

  • 5 of 5

This trip to the Island is just what it is a trip to the ISLAND!! Folks this great house is by the OCEAN! You're going to hear the waves. You're going to hear birds and other animals! You'll see animals that you don't see in the states. You're views are breathtaking. Bring your camera!! I see rainbows every time I stay here.

I sleep with the windows open to hear the ocean waves and wake to the birds calling. I see the sunset at night while sitting on the deck with a cool breeze from the ocean.

It's awesome!! It's relaxing from the city life!! If you don't want beach relaxing listening to the waves then don't come to the Islands at all!! DA!!

This place has incredible views. You can go snorkeling, swimming, hiking, go eat fresh fruit, find friendly people, go sailing, surfing, paddle boarding, scuba diving, walk to great restaurants, go fishing out back, etc.. all walking distance from this great house!!

If you can't stand the heat of the the Island life don't come to the Islands until winter. Even then it can be a sweet warmth. If you're a whimp and don't like wild life stay in a stuffy hotel! Stop bad mouthing owners who are doing a great job.

I'm telling you folks this is one of the few places I'd stay on the Island. The owners are so nice. They've met my needs. Guess what, every house has a tank for water and if it doesn't rain, water is low! At every house on the Island!! So the owners will get water to you by truck. They are the most accommodating people I've ever dealt with.

Shame on you who post bad reviews!! You're so stuffy and don't know how to relax. This is an Island folks not the Ritz Carlton!!

This is a great pace to stay!! The owners are awesome!! I've stayed at their other places too. Because they're so good to our family.

Most of the bad reviews you read on any of the homes are from people who just want things given to them for free. For those who write those reviews go get a real life. You need to relax. Or better yet, go to a 3rd world country and don't by come back until you've learned to behave properly.

Fabulous View Villa

  • 5 of 5

We had the good fortune of staying 5 nights in the fantastic Villa Tryst last month. Myself, 10 year old son and best friend spent our Spring Break here. The villa is the perfect spot for relaxing. We spent hours cooking up fabulous meals in the well-equipped gourmet kitchen, playing in the pool, and relaxing on the patio with THAT VIEW! We could not have asked for a better vacation. You can walk right down to Hull Bay Hideaway, a cool local beach bar with pool tables, Monday Night Taco Night, live music, volleyball, basically everything a beach bar can be! You can rent anything you want on the beach, including a private beach run with Captain Rick, ask at the bar! You will not be sorry. He can even then make you a special BBQ lobster dinner right on the beach after your jaunt. We have stayed in VRBO rentals in Paris, Amsterdam, Mexico, California, Orlando, Bruege, well, all over, and we actually enjoyed this rental the most. We did not have to ask for anything, its all there. Anyone will love this villa! Perfect for families, couples, friends vacationing together. Thank you Villa Tryst for our most lovely vacation. We cannot say enough good things. We will be back when we can, for sure!

Very poor, less than one star

  • 1 of 5

Upon my arrival to the unit from California, I found the place to be substandard in condition. Dirty couches, dead roaches and some were alive, 3 inched in length. Water from Kitchen sink stunk because it is from a tank. 3 Air condition was not working out of the 5. There is no windows to close and get a break from the heat and humidity, there is only shutters with very poor and deteriorated mechanisms, not fully functional. pool chemistry was off, my disabled daughter came out after the first jump with bloody red eyes and it lasted few hours. Worse of all, I talked to the owner and explained all of the above, my complaint was not considered. I left the next morning. I asked for a refund and never even got my security deposit back or even a phone call, now it has been close to 12 months since the booking. Bad place be.

We needed to abandon the property given the rats and dirty condition of the place. Requesting Refund

  • 1 of 5

For openers, the advertisements on YouTube are completely untrue. They are false and misleading:

“Find your Paradise at VILLA TRYST in Beautiful St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands...” Published on Aug 12, 2015.

What a joke!

The worst issue we encountered were rats living around and within this place and sharing our food with them.

Also, this place is anything but “…a newly renovated villa…” as this place is dirty, smells, and in need of a serious renovation. A lot of old worn-out items on the property. It has certainly seen better days.

The only adventure we encountered was leaving ASAP & finding a suitable replacement during Spring break on short notice and at considerable expense to us.

During the night of 3/12/17 or early morning of 3/13/17, a loaf of bread on "gourmet kitchen" counter eaten by rats. Surrounding area covered by crumbs and rat feces. Exterminator arrived that morning and put rat bait in a number of existing and newly placed rat bait boxes. He also provided 4 mechanical traps for smaller and larger rats. These were placed in and around the “gourmet kitchen” that night.

During the early morning of 3/14 @ 1 am, a rat was caught in a trap on the “gourmet kitchen” counter where the crumbs and rat feces was seen the prior day. It lived for a short time while hopping on floor with its head in the trap.

The place was very dirty. There were stains on pillow covers. Bedspreads and blankets also smelled from lack of washing. Some of the bathrooms doubled as janitor closets as well as chair and ladder storage areas. Very worn and dirty toilet seats with one having a broken hinge and the other broken pads. Dirty tile grout in shower stall and frayed floor mat.

Unusable & dirty umbrella on deck next to rusted base, weather-beaten wood frame for translucent plastic porch enclosure, dirty & worn chairs with peeling paint, and hole through wood deck.

As you descend the outdoor balcony stairs toward the shoreline, you pass more abandoned junk under the balcony. The stone stairs toward the water are unusable and unsafe. The rope hammock is unusable and worn-out.

As we were leaving the “villa”, a screen repairman arrived to fix many holes in the screens where rats had bitten through. Exterminator had already arrived at 7 a to retrieve the dead rat. Property manager Kim Poss also arrived to supervise the repairs.

I had e-mailed owner before we left & did not receive a response. Working with Visa to get our money back.

St. Thomas

Local anniversary getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I are longtime residents of St. Thomas and decided to enjoy a little staycation to celebrate our anniversary. Privacy and a pool were our main requirements and Villa Tryst delivered that and more! Enjoying the northwest view of Hull Bay and the Brasses while listening to the waves in complete seclusion was a highlight every day. The villa is more Island comfortable than contemporary elegant which suits the location perfectly. We rented it with just the master bedroom which was fantastic, plenty of room and natural light when you open the shutters. No TV in the bedroom but it's not the kind of place that you think about watching TV. The beach is a short walk away and while we didn't want to do any of the activities it was fun watching boats, snorkelers, kayaks and SUPs cruise by, all of which are available to rent at the beach. If you want the extra privacy make sure to ask if the caretaker's room below will be empty during your stay. All in all this a fantastic place to stay on St. Thomas!
