Briefly, the house has five bedrooms, including a master bedroom to die for, and four full baths. For everyone's comfort, it offers great flexibility in sleeping. There's a large living area for getting together; distant sleeping for getting away. :) The hardwood floors and knotty-pine walls are just what you thought of as an Adirondack camp. The kitchen? Well, my stepson the chef finds it remarkable well equipped. We provide reliable central heat and air conditioning, and to make sure you are cool even in the hottest and most humid weather, some window air conditioners as well.
The house also has a pool table in a room with a huge window looking out on the natural setting. There are also a two-car garage, a high-ceilinged playhouse, many natural features of native trees and exposed bedrock. (Bedrock forms the floor of the basement, in fact). Then there are the boathouse with dock, its roof a deck looking out over a truly spectacular lake and mountain scene, campfire. And you can have a campfire there at the waterfront.
It's ten minutes to Lake George Village; even less to Bolton Landing.
When you rent this property, please understand that you will have it entirely to yourselves. The house is not a part of an association. No one else will be using the house or driveway or waterfront or boat house or docks, including the owner.
Constructed in stages as the family's needs grew, Lake House contains many levels of living area and, with all its nooks and crannies, provides an unusual degree of privacy for its residents. Rooms are large, their walls paneled with knotty pine, and their floors made of oak, except for one room whose floors are pine. Ceilings are high and decorations sparse, lending an atmosphere of space and relaxation.
The main room is a large living and dining area with the kitchen at one end. It contains a large gas-fired woodstove (for ambiance primarily--the oil furnace provides central heat), one of three TVs (with cable), CD and DVD players, and radio (receiving Vermont Public Radio at 88.1). The dining table seats twelve comfortably. The kitchen, with its generous supply of cooking and serving equipment, is favored by the best of cooks.
This room opens out onto a large screened porch furnished with a sofa and a round glass table with chairs.
An attractive series of gently sloping steps leads you across the bedrock and down to the lake.
The double-level boat house with crib dock provides covered docking space for a boat up to 23 feet in length. No charge is made for use of the dock. A collection of life jackets in many sizes is available for the guests' use. Boat rental is available in the area. With the owner's permission you will be welcome to use our personal rowboat kept at the waterfront.
At the shallowest place, the water depth beside the boat house is about one foot, appropriate for enjoyment by very young children accompanied by an adult. The water adjacent to the pier is 8 feet deep and safe for diving. A ladder attached to the pier makes climbing back onto the pier convenient and safe. The water temperature in the lake seldom exceeds 76 degrees and is always clear and refreshing.
The grounds around the house contain a variety of land uses: small wooded areas, a small brook, grassy lawns, small flower gardens, a small wetland area, and an outcropping of bedrock. Many species of trees, including white pine, Norway spruce, blue spruce, hemlock, cedar, crab apple, oak, maple, birch, and aspen provide shade, a high degree of privacy, and natural beauty to the grounds.
For outdoor cooking, a modern Weber gas grill is provided, along with the propane needed and a spare tank in case the first ones runs out.
The two-bay garage is available for parking vehicles or boat trailers, or for storing bicycles or other sports equipment.
A full-size playhouse with a high ceiling and containing a blackboard, a doll crib, a tiny washing machine, and an assortment of other toys is available for the use of the children. Also available for the children are a swing set, a sandbox, and a tiny picnic table.

About Melissa Vito
As my year-round occupation is managing my two rental houses, I would call myself an innkeeper. It's a pleasure for me to live just 2 miles from the houses and can take good care of the property and of my guests' needs during their stay. I treasure and do what I can to protect this treasure of our lake and woodlands and enjoy classical music and good movies and theater. Out of compassion for animals and to benefit the earth, I do my best to live a vegan life. My son, a stay-at-home dad, and his wife and young daughter live in Maine. My daughter's hobby is fostering stray dogs to make them adoptable.
Melissa Vito purchased this House in 1959
What makes this House unique
Purchased in 1959 as a lakeside fishing shack, the house has been enlarged in stages into a well-integrated five-bedroom, four-bath home that everyone finds beautiful, wonderfully private, and just fun to live in. The great kitchen and dining table, the four bathrooms, the pool table, the natural surroundings, the immaculate condition you will find it in, not to mention the waterfront with its view of the lake and mountains that will take your breath away, boat docking, campfire, and great swimming, all create a place you will feel at home and happy with family and friends, and your well-behaved canine family member, too.

Incredible Vacation, Gorgeous Property
We rented the house from 7/15 to 7/22 with another family so in all, there were 4 adults, two 13- year olds, a 3 year old, a two year old and a 100 pound dog! We had more than enough room for all of us. The house was cozy, inviting and had everything we needed for the week. The waterfront space was so nice. We rented a boat and docked it all week. The house was close enough to Lake George Village and we drove the boat there several times. We loved this house so much we are already booking our next trip! The owner, Melissa, is very sweet and responsive. The DVD player was not working when we got there and she showed up with a brand new unit. Definitely one of our top vacation experiences overall.
Wonderful off-season getaway
Went up with girlfriends for a few days at the end of March and had a truly relaxing, lovely experience. Melissa, the owner, was extremely nice and helpful by email and in person. House was even better than pictures - gorgeous and meticulously maintained. We only had four people so all got our own rooms! Deck has incredible views of the lake - perfect for sunning and reading even on the less sunny days we had. On the chillier day, we stayed close to home and enjoyed the cozy living room with gas fireplace and watched DVDs and ate homemade meals cooked in the well-appointed kitchen - every pot/pan/utensil you could ever need! Had a campfire the next night in the fire circle and roasted hot dogs and s'mores while looking up at a million stars. Everything you need in terms of grocery, restaurants, supplies, is nearby in Diamond Point or Lake George village. Took small side trips to Sabbath Day Point and Lake George state park, but mainly just enjoyed down time in a really beautiful setting. Hot water was excellent and plentiful. Would love to come back in summer to do some boating and swimming, but also really loved how quiet the neighborhood and lake were during off-season.
Can't wait to come back!
Our beautiful lake, called the Queen of American Lakes, naturally, is what most people come to the region to enjoy. One of the cleanest lakes in the world, it also is surrounded by forested mountains and contains 172 beautiful little islands scattered over its 32-mile length, so its landscapes are equal in quality to its water.
The swimming, boating, and fishing are fine. The region offers many other attractions, such as a Six Flags amusement park, horseback riding, hiking, the Saratoga racetrack in August, the music and ballet at SPAC, shopping at the outlets, and numerous festivals and special events.
Winter offers skiing and boarding at two ski slopes nearby, the Winter Carnival in February, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, plus the beauty of the snowscapes to enjoy.
Experience the thrill of walking on the ground where significant battles of the French and Indian and the Revolutionary Wars took place, where our nation's history began.

Additional information about rental rates
Because our off-season rates are set according to number of people in the party and length of stay and this very restrictive, complicated rate schedule doesn't allow for all that information, we ask that you e-mail or call us directly for an accurate quote, please! Also, I may want to negotiate a price with you under certain situations. And if you rent four or more nights, I don't have to pay the sales tax, so there will be an adjustment in the nightly rate. I do ask a refundable security deposit of $100 to $300 depending on number in the party and length of stay. That will not show in your quote on this site. Our full rate schedule is included in the house rules attached to this listing also. Please remember that we are open every day all year. A very complete and attractive primary "ad" is also available for your convenience, though I cannot give you its URL here. Thank you!
