About the property

Spacious 2 BR/1 BA with view + attatched unit

In the heart of the West Seattle Junction, this turn of the century Sweet Orange Craftsman is available for your next visit! This colorful, cozy, carefully-crafted home has a spacious 1200 sq ft of living space with 2BR/1BA. A delightful bonus is an urban view of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains!

Hardwood floors, large area rugs and tasteful furnishings invite you in to curl up next to the toasty gas fireplace in the winter or bask on the sunny deck, in the summer. BBQ on your Stok charcoal grill or walk down the street to more than a dozen good eateries. Cook up a storm, if you are a home body. The kitchen is well appointed!

The comfortable king master bedroom adjoins a small sun porch, with a twin sofa pull-out. The sunny guest room opens with french doors to the view deck, with a comfortable patio table and umbrella. The house has all the usual amenities and more. It is super clean and well-cared for. Many little details create an atmosphere you can settle into quickly.

The Sweet Orange is fantastically located in "The Junction" neighborhood of West Seattle: an urban village of quiet residential homes with a walkable core of shops, pubs, and restaurants galore...just around the corner. Enjoy live theater (Arts West) and the local block-long Sunday Farmer's Market. Walk to the famous Bakery Nouveau on your way a local coffee shops or grab breakfast at Easy Street records. Hop down to the Metro bus hub for travel throughout the city, or shuttle to the downtown Water Taxi.. You can be in the center of downtown or ready for games at both stadiums, in 15 minutes, by bus or car (outside of rush hour, of course). There are 2 grocery stores, 2 drugstores and 2 health clubs just 2 blocks away!. An excellent natural food co-op is 1 mile down California Ave. The butcher and the fish market are 1/2 mile. Everything you need is close...but not too close for peace and quite.

Hop on a ferry to Vashon Island and the Olympic peninsula or simply watch for sea otters at the city's best Lincoln Park, less than 1 mile away. Spend the day at Alki beach, only 2 miles away. Enjoy an 18-hole urban golf course 1/2 mile from the house. While the Orange is a great home base for visiting elsewhere, but you really may never want to leave West Seattle!

For larger groups, add on the totally cozy and artsy 900 sq. ft. mother-in-law apartment, with another 2 BR/1BA, on the lower level and a separate entrance. The Tangerine Dream has tile mosaics and rich colors everywhere, with a huge master bedroom, guest room and bath. French doors open off the bright living room onto a large covered deck with table and chairs. The garden calls you out into the sun, or bake inside next to the freestanding gas fireplace.

If the color Orange is starting to warm up to you, check it out. Feel free to call or e-mail Cassie with questions or for tips on how to enjoy the area.

About Cassie

The Sweet Orange was my home for many years, and is now offered as a vacation rental. My heart, my creativity, and my passion for design have been invested over the years, resulting in an artistic, charming and comfortable home. Having been a life-long traveler for work and play, I know the importance of having a delightful respite away from home, with all the amenities to settle in quickly and get your vacation or work/stay going. I am local and available to guests, if they should need anything at all.

Cassie purchased this house in 1987

Why Cassie chose West Seattle

West Seattle is its own destination. Many of us who live here strive to keep it local and only venture out of the neighborhood to play in the big city. West Seattle is valued, by many, as a bedroom community for downtowners seeking a slightly slower pace, but desiring quick access to work and the city nightlife and cultural happenings. The feeling here is a bit like a beach town, with all the fabulous views and cool hangouts. I've lived here 27 years and am still counting. The Sweet Orange is a blend of the traditional charm, with a twist.

What makes this house unique

'The house has great energy', many guests say. The rich colors and textures are a sensual delight. The garden is ever-expanding. Folks often remark how peaceful the mountain sound view is, yet love being centrally located in an urban neighborhood, 2 blocks from the local flavor of the West Seattle Junction. The super walkable location and fantastic bus system allow guests to get around Seattle efficiently, even without a car. Be in the middle of downtown Seattle in 15 minutes. Hop on the free shuttle to the water taxi, 3 blocks from the house. Party with the Seahawks and Mariners, just 5 miles away. Dine and shop...then walk home to your quiet home. The airport is a breeze from here. Something for everyone!

Summer stay at The Mother-in-law Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We spent two months here. It was one of the best accommodations ever. Cassie is a stickler for details. All the comforts of being home. High quality dishes, linens, towels etc. The unit was close to the very walkable downtown of W. Seattle. Lots of restaurants and shopping. We didn't take a car for our time there and got around with the bus system and water taxi to downtown Seattle. Very nice place and we look forward to our return next summer.

Orange Dream!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Tangerine Dream was perfect from start to finish! Cassie is so pleasant and easy to work with and provides all the comforts that one needs to feel at home. Cassie's attention to detail is spot on. All dishes, pots, pans, utensils and linens/towels are of quality, colorful and fun. Nothing is old or worn. We hope to return again and next time we might even catch warm weather so that we can sit out in the back yard that is so welcoming. Cassie has left no stone unturned!! Thanks Cassie for insuring a wonderful vacation!!

A fabulous find!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Sweet Orange while visiting our son who lives nearby. I can't imagine a better choice, and we will surely return every time we go back to Seattle. The house is immaculate and extremely comfortable inside, and surrounded by wonderful plantings. It features a riot of color which somehow manages to be both interesting and restful. We have mobility issues and it was perfect for us, being all on one floor and with only a couple of steps at the entrance. A special bonus was the lovely shaded deck overlooking the garden. The house is on a quiet street but close to stores and restaurants. We were there during a heat wave (rare for Seattle), but the house stayed cool enough for comfortable sleep, thanks to the surrounding trees. We had a minor mixup in scheduling, but Cassie went out of her way to make everything work for us. I can't imagine a more perfect place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Debbie, for such a glowing review. The best part of my business is to hear such delicious feedback and know which elements of your stay were most pleasurable. I am so happy you appreciated the special touches and character of the house, and that you were willing to share with other folks who are interested in visiting The Sweet Orange! It was a bonus to meet you and Arthur, and I do sincerely hope you will join the ranks of my regulars. You were awesome guests!
