Located on George's Pond in Franklin, Maine, this lovely beachside cottage is the vacationers dream. Located within miles of the ocean and the magnificent Acadia National Park, this cottage boasts a queen bed in the master bedroom, a double bed in the guest room and five twin beds in the two upstairs bedrooms.
Two 2 person kayaks, a canoe and an aluminum rowboat, as well as a dock, and a swimming float gives you all sorts of water activity possibilities or you can sit on the front porch and watch the children play on the beach or swim in the pond. Catch trout, bass, and pickerel in the waters, as well.
The Pond is the water supply, and we leave you bottled water for drinking and cooking.
Numerous hiking trails are located in the Franklin area, as well. Wildlife is abundant in the forests surrounding the cottage.
Bald eagles, ospreys and loons are frequent visitors to the Pond in front of the cottage. In the evening you can stargaze, cook s'mores in the beach side fire pit, or simply sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings.
Or kick back and have a lobster bake on the beach.

A wonderful way to experience Maine and Acadia
This cabin and setting had it all. Beautiful and comfortable accommodations, all the amenities and comforts you could ask for and just s short drive to Acadia National Park. We were only able to spend 4 days but we tried to experience as much of Maine as we could in that time including steaming some great lobsters, driving up to Cadillac Mountain to experience and photograph a breathtaking sunrise. The unique and plentiful local antique shops and great places to eat in Bar Harbor were very special. The owners have really thought of everything to make this cottage feel like your vacation home.
Relaxing place to get away from it all
We loved our stay on Georges Pond at Tim & Anne's place. The charming & rustic cottage was perfect for our family of three. We cooked lobster, ate out on the picnic table, played in the water, took the kayaks and paddle boards out into the pond - which is more like a lake. We also made several day trips into Acadia National Park for hiking and Bar Harbor for shopping and dining. Tim and Anne were the perfect hosts. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Thank you !!
Maine is wonderful but Renters deserve full disclosure
I will begin by saying that the pond is beautiful. The kayaks and water amenities a plus as well as the fire pit; however the place itself is not well kept and does not accommodate as many people as it may sleep. The tap water is not safe to drink. It is on a septic system which smells up through the tiny shower enclosure that is similar to one found in a camper. The place had a lot of "junk" throughout and was covered with dust, cobwebs and spiders. It is very dated. The bedroom showing 3 beds does not have a door on it and all the beds did not have mattress pads. The towels provided are small, thin white towels. The kitchen is not conducive to easily preparing meals. It is very far from town and off the beaten path. Luckily, Maine is a beautiful state and Acadia is not too far. The weather is generally beautiful and as long as you spend 98% of your time outdoors, you can withstand the cottage. I am not writing this to be hurtful; however, I read reviews when looking for a place and we did not feel like they were completely truthful or accurate. The pictures do not depict the inside of the cottage accurately. Also, the diving rock is slightly more than a short paddle away. :)
Best Vacation Ever
My husband, seven of our children, and I stayed at this cabin the first week of June. It was just as the pictures indicate: nothing fancy or upscale, but decidedly cozy, clean, and comfortable. We often camp on vacation, and this was definitely a step up! We did not know that we needed to provide our own drinking water and were thankful that there were a few gallons on hand. Our family did stress the septic system, and our college daughters would have liked longer showers, and I would have liked a washing machine! Although there was not abundant room to spread out in the cabin itself, we were content to watch movies, play games, and lie in bed reading on the one day that it was too rainy to be outside. The property afforded us fabulous opportunities that would not have been possible for us otherwise and was a terrific value!
The weather was unseasonably warm, which gave us wonderful opportunities to enjoy the pond ... which seemed more like a lake to us! Our boys were especially thrilled to roll out of bed and into the kayaks each morning. We spent innumerable hours on and in the water, making good use of the kayaks, the rowboat, and the paddleboards. We were thankful for a vast assortment of lifejackets for our crew. We spotted loons, hawks, bald eagles, frogs, clams, and beavers around the pond, which was pretty cool. We built sandcastles and other creations and spent an evening roasting marshmallows around the fire and playing with sparklers.
We ventured into into Acadia three days, thoroughly enjoying the wonders of Creation there. The coastline was stunning, the hikes were thrilling, and the memories are plentiful.
The pond has a number of other houses on it, but most were unoccupied while we were there. The nearby town of Franklin was similarly mostly unoccupied, but there was a Wal-Mart and plenty of other signs of civilization in Ellsworth, less than 15 minutes away.
We would love to return here in the future!
Thanks for the nice words !!!!
Peaceful, inviting, cozy get-away! Loved it!
My aunt, cousin, our dogs, and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at this cottage. It was so nice being right on the clean lake with a nice beach. My aunt saw sunrise right from her bedroom every morning. The place was very clean and we felt right at home. The kitchen had everything we needed. The neighbors are a bit away so it was always very quiet. We really enjoyed the 'extras' like the kayaks, dock, firepit, outdoor picnic table, games and puzzles for rainy days etc. We could have stayed here 2 more weeks! Thank you Tim and Ann for sharing your vacation home with us and especially for allowing our dogs to enjoy the vacation with us!
Thanks so much! We loved the picture of you guys and the dogs kayaking. We hope you will stay with us again.
I have rented several cabins over the years and have never been to one as fully equipped as the "Looney Lodge". There were 4 children (2-15), 3 adults and a dog -- all of whom were fully occupied with the activities available. We only spent 1 day at Acadia because we were so happy being at the cabin. Everything from WiFi for the cell phone-addicted teens to Smores at night. The ducks were even friendly. Everything was exactly as described.
