The location is excellent, just minutes from Acadia NP. Our host was friendly and communicated well. I wanted to rate the home 5/5, but I had some concerns that the door leading to the cellar does not lock, and the outside crawl space/cellar door —though pinned shut with a screw or square nail—was not locked, which is a safety issue for me. The front door does not have a deadbolt, which concerned me. The side porch is a bit wobbly, too. Some of the window blinds need to be replaced. If these issues were addressed, the home would be 5/5. It is beautiful and historical, which I loved.

The house was exactly what our family needed. A beautiful vase of fresh flowers and a welcome note really made us feel welcome. It was super comfortable, kitchen and eating area was great and outstde porches were a great place for coffee in the morning. Entire property and house was spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable and the linens and towels provided were top notch. Also appreciated the amenities in the bathrooms (soap, body wash, Q tips facial wipes) Location is exactly where you want to be to go to Acadia . We traveled with my 20 month old granddaughter so being close to Acadia and the town center was key. This house and the host is family friendly and I would return and would also give more than 5 stars if I could!

We had a wonderful stay at this vacation rental! The location couldn’t be better—just minutes from Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor, making it so easy to explore and enjoy everything the area has to offer. The home itself was spotless, spacious, and stocked with every amenity we could possibly need. After long days of hiking and sightseeing, we loved gathering around the kitchen table to play games together—it truly felt like a home away from home. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

The Captain's House was fantastic for our recent family vacation. It was very spacious, clean, and well-equipped. It is also in a great location to enjoy different activities in Acadia and on MDI. We loved being able to walk to Hull's Cove. The host was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We would stay here again in an instant!

Great house. Perfect location. While on the property you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, yet, you are close to Bar Harbor and Acadia Nation Park. Perfection.

Awesome, beautiful property with wonderful character.It was so very spacious and with everything we could possibly need and more!We had 8 adults and 4 children and we were able to close off the bedroom part of the house so that the adults did not have to worry about disturbing the sleeping children! The kitchen is set up to be very workable with multiple cooks and space for the kids to observe.The yard is lovely and we enjoyed the chickens and ducks next door.(from a respectful distance.)Trish was great with the check in and also came by to check on us. Best of all, the location is extremely close to Acadia and to Bar Harbor. There is even a small beach witihn walking distance at Hull's Cove.We would love to stay again.

We had a great time staying at this home. It was large enough for 8 people plus 2 under the age of two. We had nearly perfect weather and slept with windows open at night. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook at home. The entrance to Acadia is about 10 minutes away and Bar Harbor is about the same depending on traffic. Bar Harbor is a great little town with ALOT of tourists and horrible parking. You also have to pay to park on the street. We visited Jordan Pond and did the hike around the lake. It was tough and long but beautiful! The parking situation there is also awful, given the amount of people. We went to the Lighthouse both day and dusk. The fog rolled in at dusk and that was definitely something to see!!! The only suggestion I have for this rental is the road leading to the house. It has several crater size holes to maneuver through and if you try to avoid them, the tree branches scratch the car. The other is the deck needs some attention where boards and nails are popping up. The very BEST part of the house was the enclosed back porch. The two twin beds are super comfy and there are windows all the way around that we left open day and night. The cross breeze was amazing. I slept there all week with one of my grands and it was honestly some of the best sleep I’ve ever had! Rent this home if you are visiting BH and/or Acadia!

Perfect location very close to Bar Harbor, Acadia entrance, and walking distance to lovely Hulls Cove and restaurants. Well kept home. Very comfy beds and bedding, kitchen very well stocked, and lots of space for our party of 10. Host is responsive and kind. Would be happy to return.

Quiet stay

We had a great experience here. With four adults and four kids 6 and under, it was spacious and served all our needs. The family lives behind the property and we didn’t see them at all, which didn’t bother us, but is certainly worth noting. The property owners were communicative and the house was sparkling clean.

Property worked perfectly to explore nearby Acadia and Bar Harbor. House was in clean and neat shape, worked exactly how it was supposed to. We would definitely stay again.

Wonderful property

It was wonderful, we especially loved the kitchen (they even had a garlic press and zester!) beautiful dishes so we stayed in two nights and cooked vs going out. We also loved the porch! It was fun to see chickens and ducks roaming around too, we really enjoyed it and will recommend this property

Hidden Gem

The house was plenty big and accommodating. Three of us were celebrating our upcoming 60th and had a blast. The rooster crows on time at 5:30 am and is the best alarm you could have. We did have a few days of rain which kept us from enjoying the deck but we did get a couple of days enjoying it. The house was so clean and had very nice toiletries. It was well stocked. Thank you to Trish Ropp for letting us enjoy your home.

Wonderful stay

We filled the house with family and felt very comfortable. Beautiful home, well cared for. We even enjoyed wiffleball in the back yard. So close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We really enjoyed it.

Large Clan

This is one of many VRBO properties we have stayed at for our family reunion and this one was by far the best! First, you are serenaded by chickens and ducks that live on the family farm! Second, the house is large and accommodated our family of 10 and was practically at the entrance of Acadia National park! We hiked and did the e-bike adventure and even spent a day mountain climbing! The hospitality was par excellence and a great time was had by all! Highly, highly recommend!

Wonderful property and comfortable amenities

We had 8 adults and 1 toddler. Location was very close drive to downtown Bar Harbor and yet away from the large crowds. House amenities were plenty, house was clean, large and very good condition. 2 1/2 bathrooms a major plus. Owner was available to help and very friendly. Would stay here again for sure. Only concern would be if it’s hot and humid, no air conditioning. Thanks Trish.
