Cute Cabin for Two with Ocean View

Bedrooms 1
Space 380 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

One bedroom, one bath, sleeps two

Cozy and comfortable cabin for full week rentals with separate bedroom area, open kitchen/living area, full bath, and South facing deck. Large windows provide lots of light and views. Located across the road from the ocean with a great view of Swan's island in the distance.

Enjoy your own little getaway removed from the crowds, the traffic and the tourist traps. The harbor village of Southwest Harbor is about 5 miles from the cabin, where there are local shops, restaurants, boat tours and other things to do. Staying on the 'quiet side' of the island provides an authentic Maine experience. The national park trail at 'Wonderland'------a fairly level, easy, 1.4 mile round trip trail to a beautiful ocean side spot is 5 miles from the cabin. The Bass Harbor lighthouse is also about 5 miles from the cabin, as are many other scenic hiking or paddling spots here on the 'quiet side' of the island. When you are ready for a break, you can come back to the peaceful comfort of your own little spot.

The cabin is cozy but modern cabin with tiled floor throughout, a gas fireplace, and combo washer/dryer unit for your convenience. It has a nice view of the ocean, but there is no waterfront access. There is a south facing deck on the front of the cabin where you can relax and enjoy the ocean breeze and great view. Enjoy your morning coffee while listening to the lobster boats chugging around in the bay!

There is a small lawn area and mowed path in front of the cabin, but most of the property is left in it's natural state, in an effort to provide habitat for birds, bees, butterflies and wildlife.

Although exceptions may be made for small children under the age of 3, the occupancy limit of two adults is strictly enforced.

About Anne Haynes

We are semi-retired, or maybe just tired, after spending 5 years building our modest dream home here overlooking Duck Cove. In the winter we spend some time in North Carolina where both our kids and our grandchildren live.

Anne Haynes purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Anne Haynes chose Mount Desert Island

This property had everything we wanted! A big barn for Bill to use, the cute little cabin, and a southern exposure with a great view! We lived in the cabin for about 5 years while we built our house in our spare time.

What makes this cabin unique

As we are in a rural setting, it feels pretty private, yet it is within easy driving distance of the National Park, fishing villages and the quaint charm of New England small towns. The sky on a clear night is filled with stars!

Perfect cabin for a relaxing visit with places nearby to hike and enjoy an authentic Maine visit.

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cabin is wonderful in so many ways and we felt welcomed from our first moments with nice touches from the owner including a welcome sign and paw prints made from stones and shells on the porch. We had everything we needed and Anne was such a gracious host. The "quietside" is the perfect place to enjoy Maine and escape from the crowds. Anne's library of books helped us learn about the area and she gave great suggestions for things to do nearby. Seal Cove is a treasure! My husband and I are so thankful for the week we had there with our dogs and we are already talking about our next visit.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the "Duck Cove Cabin". Perfect size for the two of us, had everything we needed in it. Also had, great water views, deck to sit outside on in the morning with coffee and in the evening to unwind after a busy day of activities. They call it a "cabin", but it is more like a cute little cottage. It is located on the "quiet" side of the island, but central to anywhere you want to go. We were on the go the whole week we spent there, but spent the last day just relaxing and unwinding from out busy week. Hopefully, we will be able to go up again for a visit. Our hosts, Anne and Bill Haynes, were very friendly and helpful.

A wonderful place to stay while enjoying time in Acadia

  • 5 of 5

This Cabin is so cozy and in such a quiet and beautiful part of the island. The cabin itself is clean and modern, with a great kitchen to work in and a wonderful deck looking out to the ocean to eat on. There is a jacuzzi bathtub that is great when you come back from hiking one of the mountains. The only drawback is that there isn't a table for eating on in the cabin. so we ate as many meals as we could on the deck, while watching the sunset. Ootherwise there is a counter with 2 (or 3?) high stools. Locationwise, You can bike right from the cabin on beautiful country roads with hardly any traffic. Its also good for early morning (or anytime) walks. And there's a dirt road just down the main road if you want to get away from the traffic completely. There's a boat ramp for putting canoes & kayaks in the water a quarter mile away. And there are some really nice and easy hikes down to the water a few miles away that you can bike (or drive) to, including a really cool lighthouse. You are 5 miles or so from Southwest Harbor, a small, charming town with good restaurants and interesting, fun shops. There is a grocery store just outside the town. The prices are high vacation-place prices, but they have just about everything you need there (bring food with you to save money). . There are places to get fresh lobsters and seafood, and a great "on the pier" lobster place called Thurston's a few miles from the house , which is a slice, and not to be missed. So the cabin location is a great balance of "away" when you want it, interesting stuff to do, and lively stuff when you are up for that. The owner is a charming woman and has lived on the Island for a long time and can tell you a lot of interesting things about it. We are the hiking-biking-canoeing type and there are quite a few good climbs within a 20 minute drive. ( We only go to bar harbor to do the tourist-trap thing when it rains, but its there if you want it, about 45 min. away). .There's also a lake nearby you can swim nearby, though its on the cool side. In SW Harbor there's a Kayak rental place that takes you on these great tours on the undeveloped side of the Island where you see a lot of animals - seals, eagles, osprey, loons (love the loons, want to get a ring tone with their call). So what can we say,. We've been to ACadia three times and this place made for the best stay we've had yet. If you want to be away from stuff, but not too far away, this cabin fits the bill.

The cabin was very well kept, quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view. Close to attractions.

We enjoyed the quietness from our busy city life. The cool, crisp air coming off the water to the cabin was so refreshing! It was a good distance from activity but close enough to get everywhere we wanted to go.

Lovely little getaway spot

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had an excellent vacation staying at this cabin. It's peaceful and private, but you can get to all of the action on MDI within a 40 minute drive -- some much closer. The cabin is very well appointed and we were quite comfortable there. The only caveats are that the noise from the nearby road is quite noticeable and the cabin is very bright once the sun comes up, making sleeping in a bit of a challenge. That said, we would definitely stay again.
